Would anyone bite at Day? I'd like to know what it would cost. Probably too much considering what they paid for him. He's the sort of player I'd like though if we could get him at a reasonable price.
Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Took a huge interest in him, so watched a lot of him. Got no grunt in him.

May is a dead set gun. To prise him out of the Suns would be huge for us.

Why doesn't anyone want to draft anymore? I find it stupid that we want to trade away all of our early picks when we can gain some of these mature players we want through FA over the next couple of years.

All of our better players are under 22, we can add another 1 or 2 years of draftees to this pile and have a nucleus between 23-28 in four or five years.
A trade every now and again can compliment the drafted list. We can get a Carlisle or Henderson for pick 4 or a Tim Walsh or Tom Williams. That's the risk you play.

Sam day omitted.
Charlie Dixon kicked three in the twos off 5 touches so a bit of like for like
maybe.Tom Nicholls and Keegan Brooksby dominated the ruck with 62 hit
outs Brooksby with 32 . Josh Glenn from centrals also had high twenties
and kicked a couple, he had some love on last years draft thread. Gold
Coast still lost, but at least kicked over a hundred and Peter Wright had
18 touches and kicked a couple. Henry (slim) Schade also named in the
best players, maybe the fruit is getting ripe.

Or a WHE, Bont, Buddy.

I know what you are saying but we can get Hendo or Carlisle in a couple of years for free via FA!

I wouldn't be mad if we did this, but I just think while we are recruiting well, keep recruiting!

Unless he gets traded to another club and is happy there.

They'd be tied up by then or another team would be in their ear, plenty of good smaller players go up for FA every year we could get someone needs based that way without giving up a 2nd rounder or something.

It's an interesting debate, but you just can't keep drafting 5 or 6 kids every year. They can't all make it and we'll just end up churning over young talent and not getting anywhere.

As I said previously, taking 6 kids in the national draft last year means we should only be taking 3, or max 4, this year.

All the top teams trade aggressively, and we need to do the same. We have seriously quality in our young core, and added quantity to it last year. I'm not against trading some picks for players that complement our squad and will still be in their primes at the same time as our core young talent.

You need to build a base of players who are around the same age to play games together.. It is then good to trade your first round pick for a quality player (Carlisle) who will fit in with our players age whereas a young player most likely will take a while to come on and not suit the teams profile.

I don't think it'll be so easy for the Dogs to 'just wait a while and get free agents'. The unfortunate truth is that we are a small market club that has not been truly successful in a long time. Both of those factors make it very hard to attract free agents. Have the Dogs actually signed a single free agent that wasn't delisted? On the flipside we lost Higgins, and traded Lake one season prior to free agency when he would have left anyway.

If the AFL goes towards a kind of US sports based model, then free agency is going to be even more prominent. If the Dogs want to get in on the action, then they're going to have to create an incentive for potential free agents. Having the team be in finals contention is one way. Another is by showing free agents that the team is willing to be bold and make big trades. That if they join the club other big names could very well follow, that they think 'This club will do what it takes to have sustainable success while I'm here'. Following the Tom Boyd deal with a Carlisle deal would not only be huge for the immediate team, but it would show free agents what I've just described. That the Dogs will do their best to surround them with talent; talent that's young, too.

We can't just sit around and expect the free agents to start rolling in; we have an image to build.

Rocket trying to send a message.. as he should. As athletic as Lance Franklin but does he want it?

I think we have to draft minimum 4 every year
