Cox is a number 1 ruck that can rest up forward and clunk marks. He is played out of position because Collingwood happened to find a once in a generation ruck.

He is significantly better than what we have at this current point in time.
Disagree. Everyone is a star at Collingwood and there no better treated side than Collingwood. Grundy is very good but Cox isn’t better than what we have already.

People talk a about West/Khamis like these are aboulute done deals.

As someone who hasn’t seen either, can anyone tell me...are either of them that good?

Would they be of any interest to other teams? Where would they likely draft if we didn’t snap them up?

You’re right, I think he’s a natural wingman but with the game played so much through half back, I think his speed and decision making will be crucial. Really rate Ed.

How we use Williams, Suckling, Richards et al will be interesting next year. Do we try to get Suckling to kick over the defensive press to the wings and then rely on the others to run it quickly into F50, or the other way around ?? Run it out, then set him up in space to deliver.

Tom is enjoying himself with his mates in Queensland, good to see a smile on his face.

This is obviously one of two things...

Either it’s the new “rat pack”, destabilising the club, in which case they all need to be shipped out pronto...

Or, it’s clearly a photoshopped image, given Boyd and Hunter are wearing tops, and Wallis too far away, indicating a massive rift in the playing group, with Jong, Dunkley and Bont from the original image generating an elitist clique based on their superior cooking skills...

I will not countenance any other possibilities, club obviously in full-blown crisis mode.

Clear the decks, start again, we’re faaaarked!

Can’t tell much from the tv coverage so can only go on them both being named in various all-Aust and team if the year teams. You do see West though - he has a definite presence and being named rover in those teams consistently is a pretty good indication. Khamis I have only seen what look like highlight reals that can be very deceiving.

Means they are rated by people other than us but would be surprised and kinda hope that they slip right down the order.

On the Preuss comment - I am more suggesting the best VFL ruckman we can get.

Preuss played a few AFL games and looked ok. And he seems to be one of the best VFL ruckman. I thought someone here said that when our VFL teams played he came out on top. He also has a real bulk and mongrel that could be useful.

However - if there is a better VFL Ruck - I would happily flip - no man crushes. But they must transition to AFL. The Willy ruck is supposed to be the best but his size has held him back. May be a good risk may be a mistake? With Trengrove playing a similar role he is probably not the answer for us.

Cox is not really a ruck so not a need.

I am a big fan of Roughy and thought Campbell would come through - so what would I know?

But statistically we are very poor (in most ruck categories - last or second last) so it makes sense to work on this area. English is the future but we will go after him like Boyd if he doesn’t immediately grow a 25 year old body and brain. Need to give him time, development and coverage. That means at least 3-4 years planning.

Tandem with Boyd will work barring injuries - Boyd is getting better in ruck and if in bursts can work well. But rucks always have injuries so must cover this role. Maybe Trengrove is enough.

Other than saying why Preuss is not the answer - what is the answer? I admit I don’t really have it.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the President Of The Players Association should not be able to speak to players about moving to his club ????

Not just you. He is a man of many hats (to fit that big head).

We're stuck with him and his awful sense of humour and air of self importance for a very long time through a beckoning media career.

Might fire off an email on this subject.....

Saw this photo and I suspect these guys are the guys the club really sees as the future. Generally solid citizens and hard workers.

If all are fully fit and in form next year it’ll take us a long way towards a finals return.

Absolutely Anja, agree 100%.

But, isn’t that what I just said...?! :D

Just a further comment on this photo, based on Anja’s quote of my post, it’s good to see a bunch of high profile team-mates/mates in relaxed, as opposed to stupid/d1ckhead, mode. A few quiet beers, cruise on a boat, recharge the batteries and forget about AFL for a short time...

A few other observations...
Is Bont holding his beer with one finger inserted his attempt to ‘hide’ it in the photo, or to add taste?
Boyd looking like Quint, which would make Hunter either Brody or Hooper.

Captain, club officials, none of them should be allowed to speak to other players during the year.

It appears every team is doing it and the AFL has to stop it.

We’re a key forward short but realistically we’re not going to play another one so may as wel leave it as is.

I genuinely can’t see an area of the ground where we don’t have someone able to play it, or have someone coming through who will.

Best available for me with a focus on speed and ball winning ability.

Thoughts
Speed definitely a need. A few small forwards who know where the goals are would help too, like a genuine crumbing type like Papley or a Daniel Rioli. Maybe a lockdown small defender too, think we're ok on the rebound front, Roarke Smith is probably the closest thing we have in this regard and he's just depth.

A good versatile marking medium would help also, not fussed be it forward or back. Wood is injury prone, Moz is near the end, while Gowers and Greene look good up forward, perhaps some more competition would be useful for them though.

I’m not sure how they’ll structure up. I really like Bevo as a game day coach though; he’s willing to try anything and everything to get a result. He’s innovative too so now he seems to have the team where he wants it, the tactics next year will be fascinating.

That’s a good question, and one that will be answered on draft night.

These days, a father-son or academy player gets offered to the relevant team - only after they have attracted a bid from someone else.

For example, if Rhylee West is bid on by St Kilda at pick 4, we get the opportunity to override and take him instead.

There is a cost to this, which is the calculated “points” of the pick used to bid - in the example pick 4 - which we have to cover less 20%.

All of that said, estimates are:

- Rhylee West: pick 10-20 range
- Buku Khamis: pick 25-45 range

Preuss is a great buy low option.

Very dominant number 1 option, might cost a second rounder.

Just couldn’t get a game over Goldy.

Very different to English, who from what I saw against GC earlier in the year, could even develop as a forward-ruck.

I’d be all over Preuss.

Is he any better than Campbell?

He also was pretty dominant in the VFL.
