Here is the list of pick 7's to go in previous drafts

And people here wouldn't give that up for WIngard??? A 25 yr old dual AA. Pick 7 even in recent years has been speculative whether they would even get near the talent of Wingard.

I've been adamant about keeping our first pick this year, so while I'm excited about the prospect of landing Wingard I'd be upset at losing our first. If we got him for next year's first and something else I'd be over the moon. Can't see it happening though, Port would demand pick 7 be a starting point.
Definitely agree, keeping this year's would be wonderful but can't see Port allowing that. In reality, you never come away from these big trades being 'over the moon' because you're always having to give up something super valuable. I think the feeling we'd have upon giving up pick 7 is that sweet spot of being content with the deal

This has got some Deron Williams, Carmelo Anthony, and Paul George about it (for NBA fans). Teams trading stars a year before they become free agents to avoid losing them for nothing.

The pending free agency tends to lower the trade price.
Think it’s a bit different, Port can’t just send him anywhere. Otherwise they’d just send him to the Saints for a year long rental before he’s a FA.

Lets hope we dont get a melo output

It's still money that we have to pay out. What's the point if you can't see a player making it, we could spend that extra money on a coach for instance.
Monney is outside the cap so wont affect any signings

Anything from the earlier days is a useless comparison, since teams were a lot less professional in their approach to the draft, making it a massive crapshoot.

To be honest any comparison to previous drafts irks me because you gotta look at who's available this draft.

For example if we trade 7 for Wingard and Bailey Smith is available there I'll be a little shitty.

I think the last ten years of draft is a valid comparison.

Because there's no saying they will definitely be a bust, they have some talent at least. If we can't afford two category B contracts to take a punt on them we're in trouble.

First we get JJ from South Africa. Then we’ll get Khamis from South Sudan. And now we’re pushing hard to acquire the Republic of Chad.

Good to see the club weren’t stuffing around when they said they were keen to expand our western footprint.

Rhylee WEST being brought in to counteract the effect of EASTon Wood to help make this happen

Well I guess we'll see, but I will be extremely surprised if Dawson makes it. I don't see any standout attributes or upside.
Chatfield is a maybe if he fixes his attitude and even than I'm not sure.

Of course it can - but it requires a balanced approach, with some maturity mixed in. Trotting out a forward line of Schache, Boyd, Gowers, Greene, Wallis and the likes of Suckling/Bont/Dunkley/Hunter/Crozier/Cordy/McLean/Richards/Lipinski/Dale/Daniel/Johannisen/Picken/Jong/Lynch isn't balanced in the slightest. Dickson adds something but can he stay fit? And even then I don't think it's balanced enough. A lot of those guys aren't really forwards and/or have immature bodies/a lack of experience. At the very least, Lloyd is a genuine forward with a mature body and more experience in the tactical side of things.

Getting Lloyd isn't going to stop us from performing well with the group above - if they're ready to take the next step and allow us to contend ahead of expectations, they will do so with or without Lloyd. If it so happens that we trade in Lloyd, and they do take the next step and he's not needed, what have we lost?
2 points: it depends what your expectations are for next year. If you’re going for a premiership, trade him in. But we’re not ready for that. All our list management decisions over the last 18 months supports this. Crozier and kids.

If he comes in and gets usurped by the kids, which is what I would hope, you lose a list spot to someone who was never going to contribute. This is precisely my point.

Will cost the farm, but played as a forward it could pay off in spades. A mid he aint.

Sounds like that guy that used to wear number 9.
