Surprised re Hall and Elliott. Elliott would fall apart with our medical staff surely lol!? And while I am all for Hall - doesn’t seem like someone Bevo would want to bring in (defensively I mean). But hope I’m wrong!
Elliott was an extremely good small forward before his multiple hamstring problems. He's just had an op to repair the hamstring and Pies are hoping he gets the all-clear for pre-season training. IF his issues are behind him he would be a very good pickup, in fact, just what we need, but what we don't need is yet another 'chronic' sitting in the stands long term.

Yeah that's true. Brings up a good point about Boyd's next contract - do we pay his market value or a little less considering his previous contract. Tough negotiating that will be.
You pay market value. In all honesty, at present, his market value only sits in that 400k range anyway. He's a young ruck/forward that is capable of playing good minutes for 22 games a year.

I’m ok with Hall coming in but I’m worried about the price. Happy to let him go through to the keeper - the keeper being Norf. Elliot is a great player but with hamstring and back issues it’s a no from me.

If the output is same as past 2 years he needs to be offered a contract first

If he plays to ability we all know he has being able to keep him is probably above

Thats right, Tigers and Cats guns are taking pay cuts to fit other players in, who will be taking pay cuts in our team to help? Easy thing to say from the couch but it will need to happen in some degree.

If we are borderline on the cap after signing Wingard then the list management team and anyone signing off on the previous team need a hard look at themselves. I hope our mid-low tier players are getting payed relative to the league and not based within our team
Tigers guns taking pay cuts? Didn't Dusty sign for 1.3 over 7? Rance on 800k+ Trent Cotchin believed to be in same bracket now Lynch in on over a Mil. Will see a fair few squeezed out this year

Future Stars discussing a Wingard move with a sense that he may indeed be moved by Port. Twomey backing the Dogs as the club best suited for a deal - straight swap for pick 7
Unfortunately I think their point at the end was spot on. Makes zero sense to trade him out the same time as Polec a year after bringing so many other players in

Agree, it is bizarre list management. Having said that, if he requests a trade, it's probably better to just trade him rather than likely lose him for less (in compo) next year as a free agent. The trade will have to be a good one though. Pick 7 may not be enough

Really conflicted on The Chad. We keep 7 (Smith) and get West as well, we get an insane midfield for the next 10 years, when added to Bont, Macrae, McLean, Dunks, Libba etc

Why then not wait a year and go hard for Wingard when free agent?

The free agency point there makes a lot of sense..just get the feeling that Bevo is desperate to bring in extra talent for next year. Wingard a free agent also means clubs like the Hawks, Saints, Blues become more of a chance of pinching him too.

Same could have been said for Tom Boyd and kept our first, getting a pick for Griffen.

If we knew Smith was going to be there at 7 I’d agree. But I doubt it. Mentioned a few weeks ago his management want him at the Dogs as they think he would be a good fit. I really fear Freo’s tanking though could cost us that one spot up.

Smith will not last to pick 7, debatable as best midfielder in the draft along with Walsh

And because free agency starts a bidding war, a team with room in the cap could come out with an offer over a million dollars and we get out bid. Unless Chad already has his heart set on us and isn't chasing extra dollars, then we will more likely than not be outbid

I just struggle to rate Wingard to the point that he demands giving up a pick in the top ten and what would be atleast 750 a year.
Great player when he is on but that doesn't seem to happen often enough.

we waited a year for Hall in 2008?? think we could've traded our first for him but didn't and drafted Cordy. If we did trade for Hall for season 2009 we would've won the flag.

Fairly sure I read a couple of days ago his management is pushing for $900k+ a year.

I wont be getting my hopes up since I highly doubt Port will trade him at all.
If the alternative is that we get him for free (in trade cost) in 12 months time, I hope they don't.

If getting him as a Free Agent in 12 months is a viable option, then we're effectively trading pick 7 for 12 months of his football. *If* we were confident of getting him in a year's time, then in my mind it would be just nuts to do that trade now.

But of course it's not that black and white, not getting him in now opens up the door to other clubs to nab him this year or him to get a godfather offer from someone else next year. He's capable of being in the top 20 players in the comp (historically, having a handful of players at that level are the fundamental keys to long term successful eras), but at the same time he's capable of making a club giving him 5 years/$5mil look silly.

Why does everybody think this?

He has scored 43,43,53 and 38 goals in his last 6 years and then when moved to the midfield went to kick a goal a game plus average 22 touches a game. 2x All Australian. Wingard is a freak and is EXACTLY want we need.

After watching those pea-hearted orange campaigners lose again last night I hope we don’t chase any of them... not one stood up when it counted.

Not trade news but the mention of the “orange campaigners” reminded me. Saw a lot of their supporters catching trains around Melbourne yesterday. They seem to travel mostly in groups of one. Generally strange looking individuals. Orange coats attempting to hide their black hearts. Made me think the collective noun should be a loneliness of GWS supporters.

It is now or never. The reason Port are willing to deal is to get the best young kids from SA in this draft so if the Dogs try to play funny buggers He will either end up at another club or Sign an extension with Port.
