Yeah one of the Freo tall defenders would be the best way to go, Hamling is probably the most attainable but injury prone but would also be cheapest.

Don't Freo have a notoriously bad medical team?
Surely it is getting to the point that these perennially injured players look elsewhere just to salvage their careers.

My impression of Payne is that he might be a bit challenged for pace.

Defenders can get away with it if (if) they are smart enough.
Sam Collins at GCS is as slow at Fletcher "Premiership full back" Roberts but is a very solid FB.

Let's not forget Weitering is one of the best FBs in the game and is not quick either.

I haven't seen enough of Payne recently to comment but we have shown interest in the past so it's worth watching what he does.

My impression of Payne is that he might be a bit challenged for pace.

He’d be on par with Keath I’d say and could be a decent replacement for him. Less intercept marking ability but more lockdown ability.

Payne would be a great get for us, but was a part of the Lions academy as a kid and is contracted until the end of next year. I 'm not sure being slow is a valid knock on him.
