I definitely agree with your point about teams having figured out how to shut down our contested game but I do think there's more to it. The number of times the opposition can hit up leads in an open forward line compared to our constant bombing to a crowded forward line isn't just about contested ball.
The stand rule almost removes the value of overlap running because it's much easier to get a quick clear kick that breaks open a zone.
Yeah fair, also even easier when we practically move out of the way for them to kick too 🤣

With all due respect, I find the barass rumour very hard to believe. Makes no sense for eagles to trade him or for him to want out. As good as it would be to get him to the kennel, ain’t no way

I don’t think it’s likely but I can easily believe we’re having a crack. We can be throwing 2x first round picks at west coast and be all over him but we still have to convince them and him. It probably doesn’t happen but I do believe we’d be asking the question in a big way. And probably of a couple of others as well.

I hate it when people make statements as if they’re facts, and not just their opinion. Happens on the team previews all the time. How hard is it to start with “I think…”?
I heard..

Oh I don't doubt we've asked the question.

But as you say, we need to convince Barrass plus WCE, also:
  • he's signed a decent 5 year contract to end of 2027 (in that time, in 2024, we have English, Naughton, JUH and now Baz, coming out of contract and all likely requiring more $$$)
  • he's WA born and bred
  • has expressed an interest in the WC captaincy

Can we make a compelling case (plus $$$ offer) to convince him? Can't see how, unless Sam Power employs dark arts and hypnotises Barrass with that blank, yet mesmerising, stare.

Can’t we just enjoy the possibility for just a moment?

We all know it’s not going to happen, but we need something to get excited about and the way we are playing is not going to do it.

If it’s not Barrass, we have to chase one from somewhere! We needed one extra KPD before, now we need at least 2 and another to develop.

Likely Jones and a gun KPD we can attract and trade for

Our kicks inside 50 target a player 64% of the time which is ranked 7th in the competition.

We score 44% of the time when we target a player which is ranked 12th in the competition.

Opposition teams target a player inside 50 59% of the time which is ranked 18th in the competition but when they do target they score 51% of the time which is ranked 1st.

Is that 18th stat suggesting our opponents target a player inside our def 50 the least of any team in the comp?

And assuming the scoring 51% of the time they do, the highest in the comp?

Cleveland is claiming to have a source of inside knowledge. It's not an opinion.

He has also claimed that Leon Cameron is definitely coming to the Bulldogs next year and that the Lobb deal is "done."

As far as I can tell he has never had any mail that has been confirmed or denied so far. Time will tell if he's legit. I don't have an opinion either way.

Makes sense. Our high press is set up to either force a forward half turnover or give us time to pack our D50 to defend entries as a group. But when our press breaks down or we turn it over in the defensive half or we give up a front exit from CB and the opposition can move it unimpeded and we can’t flood back our defenders get exposed as poor 1v1 and/or we give up Joe the Goose goals. We seem to almost have a rolling flood from one end to the other at times.

Be interested to know Bev’s thoughts on what worked in 2016 and 2021 that hasn’t every other year.

Let’s not shoot the messenger again. Cleveland shared some info he received from a source which is welcome. At least our recruiting dept are having a crack and recognise our weaknesses.

Absolutely, even if it doesn’t happen it’s great to know we are out there looking for quality in areas we need to booster.

Lobb sounds like it’s as good as done. Jones too.
Tall forwards Bruce, JUH, Lobb.
Tall defenders Jones, Naughton, Darcy plus Buku.

Back up talls would be Gardner, Schache, Keath, OBrien.

Naughton and Darcy can also play forward.

Cannot see us getting a ready made CHB like Barrass. Unfortunately Dunks looks gone but we will get a high draft pick for him so we need to draft the best midfielder and tall key back.

Would take a bit for Bevo to send Naughts back but he is going to have to completely rejuvenate the game plan and playing list.

There is zero talk on the West Coast board about Barrass leaving.

Altho, as someone else mentioned earlier, there are peanuts on the Fremantle board who think they are getting at least a 1st for Lobb. Hilarious.

I get where they are coming from. A second rounder is meaningless to them as Lobb is pretty vital for their structure. Hence they’d rather just hold him. I guess it comes down to Jackson and maybe them getting another tall in to replace Lobb but I really don’t think they are just gonna make it easy and hand Lobb to us.

Probably not but a top 10 is a funny suggestion

I really think a left field suitor comes for Dunks or he re-signs. If he nominates Essendon again I'll laugh so hard.

Then maybe don’t comment 🙂
