Look, Dunks you don’t seem like a bad guy, perhaps influenced by the wrong people, but you’re a harmless sort of man.

But by geez you’re a boring bastard. How you have any brand is a complete mystery.

It’s the “Boring Bastard” brand…. Someone had to do it and Dunkley is his name.

Not player specific but would an equivalent of a soccer-like “buy-out” clause, but with draft points value rather than money, be allowed in an AFL player contract?

For example could a player have in his contact that he can force through a trade as long as the club receives [2,000] draft points from not more than [3] picks? I don’t think that’s tampering at all and surely better from a player perspective than verbal commitments so AFLPA would be supportive.

Bell has stated we were done trying to trade for Hogan, then six days later he was ours. However that was after Bell had just started working at freo and by all report Ross and Stevich forced the trade through.

An added factor to this is Lobb is on the final year of a heavily front loaded 750k contract. Bell is probably pissed about being done by Neale through this and is drawing a line in the sand with Lobb who seems like a bit of a mercenary.

I don't understand everyone thinking Lobb doesn't fit in at the Dogs. Naughton, Lobb, JUH is a perfect 3, Lobb can back up English too. Darcy does an apprenticeship in the backline until Lobb retires and you can work out where you want to go from there. Also pushes Bruce to a depth player which is probably a good thing at this stage. You guys have the talent to be considered inside a window, adding a quality key forward ruck is a great added piece.

It's not that Lobb doesnt fit in, it's that Lobb is just a Sam Darcy stopgap, so our supporter base are a bit torn on if Lobb is worth the hassle or do we bite the bullet and play the kids forward line

I think most of us think he improves our side for sure, but not to the extent we'd want to miss out on top end draft talent and we just dont know what he's going to cost

Don’t disagree with most of this. I like Lobb with us, although others don’t. It provides ruck depth/second ruck, and a Naughton/JUH/Lobb forward line is worth a shot.

Darcy has shown quite a bit in a handful of games, and he’ll probably end up playing Lobb’s position. But depth in tall forwards isn’t the worst area to have depth in imo. If Melbourne had it they’d be playing this weekend.

Honestly I am shocked Melbourne aren't all over Lobb. He's an upgrade on current Jackson and the perfect fit for them. Like you said I reckon if they had Lobb they are easily still in the final series. Grundy and Gawn sharing ruck duties seems like massive over kill.

Yeah that makes sense, although I don't think he would end up cosying you guys a lot, like a mid second rounder would probably get it done. Which is very painful for a freo supporter, he's actually worth a lot more to us then he is to you guys, we don't have a naughton.

I think with the talent you guys have you should really be going all out for a flag, the youth can wait.

yeah I get that, as good as jackson is likely to become if you lose Lobb you take a direct hit to your firepower for sure. With the hope tabs stays fit next year to fix that for you. It's a tough spot for a team who will be targeting a top 4 finish next season.

The trade probably makes sense for both teams, assuming he at least somewhat helps Freo build the currency they need for Jackson or to be able to stay in the draft at a decent level after that trade. I still think this trade will probably get done, there will just be a lot of posturing done at both ends as things get worked out. It's almost certain to get sucked into other trades with all the Jackson and DUnkley stuff still to come

For sure, but if they want Dunkley, they have to pay up.
**** it, let’s ask for Cameron as an opening bid. Ridiculous of course and they can laugh it off but we must not get bent over on the Dunkley trade. We should not accept shit in return! In Power I trust. God save the Power!

If Dunkley wants to go to Brisbane, we ask for McLuggage, they say no, we say Rayner, they say no, we say Coleman. They won't want to loose any of those 3 and Coleman is a Queenslander so hard to get him out but they are the only 3 worth considering for our needs. Coleman looks an absolute star of the future.

Absolute scenes when Ljizz plays all 25 games next year to win the flag, hit 100 club games then retires & breeds two athletic beasts to lock down CHB & CHF in 19 years
Even better that he only played 95 with Carlton....

Until they know what melbourne are going to need for jackson they'll pretend Lobb is untouchable.

once they know they'll lean on us for a first round pick, we'll offer up some bullshit deal of crap picks (probably futures). They'll fight back and forth and eventually we'll cough up a second rounder or something which is still probably too much and both sides can walk away pretending they won the trade.

Welcome to the trade period
Except its pre trade period, trade period. We still have to sit through two weeks of actual trade period

Hopefully Sam power has another Target in mind and we can move on from Lobb
Grundy as B plan?
Just for the fun of knowing the pies would be paying us over 500k to facilitate trades.
No seriously, 2 headed monster in Timmy and Grundy. Rotate them through defence, they are both excellent marks behind the ball.

Fremantle forward Rory Lobb remains determined to land at the Western Bulldogs, despite being left disappointed by the Dockers declaring they “wouldn’t be able to facilitate a trade” for him.

The Dockers will be one of the most active clubs in the trade period this off-season. They’re the favourite to land outgoing Demon Luke Jackson and have interest Suns duo Jeremy Sharp and Josh Corbett, but they’re also set to lose up to a handful of players to rival clubs.

Dockers football boss Peter Bell said his club would work with both Carlton and North Melbourne to strike suitable trades for off-contract players Blake Acres and Griffin Logue respectively. Freo also indicated contracted wingman Darcy Tucker and his management would explore the possibility of a trade with the full support of the club.
ll also confirmed Lobb this week had indicated he was seeking a trade — a request the club, at this stage, wasn’t prepared to allow.

“We had a conversation with Rory where we informed him that due to his contracted status and also the importance he has for our structure that we wouldn’t be able to facilitate a trade for Rory,” Bell said.
Lobb’s manager Colin Young said the Dockers 12 months ago indicated they could trade him at the end of the 2022 season.

“Rory and I absolutely understand that Fremantle can hold him to the last year of his contract, totally understandable,” Lobb’s manager Colin Young told The West Australian.

“Fremantle are entitled to do whatever is in the best in the interest of the club, as they should do. However if trading Rory to the Western Bulldogs secures Luke Jackson, then it could be a win for everyone.

“When the trade period ended last year the conversation that took place between Rory and the club suggested that they could look at trading Rory this season, so I’m not sure what has happened. I hope we can all work together to get the best result for all parties, just as we will look to do with Griffin Logue.”St Kilda legend Nick Riewoldt said he could understand why the Dockers were playing hardball with Lobb.
“They‘re into Luke Jackson up to their eyeballs, so the prospect of getting Luke Jackson over and having a year of Luke Jackson with Rory Lobb, plus you played finals this year … If you’ve got contracted players, given the exodus that has been touted at Fremantle, well then you’re holding on to who you can,” Riewoldt told Fox Footy’s AFL 360 Plus.

Triple premiership Tiger Jack Riewoldt added: “In the first quarter against Collingwood on the weekend, he was probably one of the only players that showed a little bit in terms of being able to damage and play alright in the first quarter.

“Six-foot-six blokes that can mark the ball and kick the ball well, they do not grow on trees. So if you can get him and arguably they‘re going for Jackson as well, they could be a really important duo for Fremantle

This is correct. I had a laser eye on Dunks due to fantasy, he has one of the slowest hand to ball drops in the league. He's real good at the tough stuff and has a sense for the goals, but he cannot dispose of the ball in a timely manner

Sssssh! He's brilliant at everything OK? Everything.

It sounds perfectly reasonable that Freo might hold Lobb at all, or nearly all, costs. If they can't work out a trade for Jackson and Logue leaves then they go into 2023 with Taberner as their only key forward. Was he even best 22 at the end of the year?

Perhaps they would take the deal anyway if we paid significant overs for him but assuming we don't do that then I can definitely see them holding onto him for another year.
Bell is a smart cookie. He can smell that we might end up with a couple of first rounders with Dunkley going and he’s hoping we are stupid enough to do a Gold Coast. Let’s hope we aren’t that dumb.

Bell is not smart. Power will go nowhere near any of our firsts (should we get more than one).
