So what we know now is it will be just another of those trades that comes down to the last couple of hours of the trade period.

It'll be a blink-off but my guess is Bell already knows that he'll be the first to blink. He'll just try to spin it out as long as possible.
Perfectly legit tactic.

It sounds perfectly reasonable that Freo might hold Lobb at all, or nearly all, costs. If they can't work out a trade for Jackson and Logue leaves then they go into 2023 with Taberner as their only key forward. Was he even best 22 at the end of the year?

Perhaps they would take the deal anyway if we paid significant overs for him but assuming we don't do that then I can definitely see them holding onto him for another year.

*30 years old (turned 31 before the start of the 2013 H&A season)
With all due respect to Liam, Lake had a far larger quality body of work behind him.

I really hope Liam works out for us but it's not uncommon for guys to go back to state level, then break down a bit when they re-enter the AFL system. Sam Collins at the Suns a notable exception, but he doesn't exactly rely on athleticism to compete.
Lake also had plenty of niggles when joining the Hawks and had obvious other baggage.

It’s not say he can’t fall off a cliff, but Jones is a 100x better athlete.

Losing more and more faith in this teams ability to compete at the pointy end of the comp.

Trying to reanimate the corpse of Liam Jones gives me zero reason for hope.

This is a really big off season for Power. He’s done well in years where he’s had the upper hand like with Treloar and positioning us with points, and he killed it with Bruce and Keath, but this year will be his biggest yet.

He’ll need to extract maximum value out of Dunkley leaving, while trying to get an in contract player to the club who’s current team will dig their heels in.

All while also hopefully bringing in another KPD that no one knows about.

I’m a Power fan like we all are, although I have questioned a few recent things I.e a 5 year deal for Daniel, giving a 3rd rounder for Hannan, re-signing Martin and the returns last year for Lipinski and Young weren’t ideal. This is the year we’ll really find out how good he is.

Look, Dunks you don’t seem like a bad guy, perhaps influenced by the wrong people, but you’re a harmless sort of man.

But by geez you’re a boring bastard. How you have any brand is a complete mystery.

Look at Dylan Shiel's trade. Four years ago. Same age, vaguely in the same ballpark as output of players, with Shiel's AA-output two years before his trade counterbalanced by Dunkley having about four years of proven output. Essendon traded pick 9, and future first out for a future second to return.

I'd be very disappointed if that wasn't the starting point of the trade discussions. I very mucb doubt we do a deal with Port that doesn't involve Pick 8, without even touching our pick 11.
Yeah good shout that’s a good comparison, was Shiel out of contract?

Ports the best bet for us, they’ve already said a single first rounder so when alls said and down 8 and they’re first next year for Dunks & our 2nd is fair.

Brissys harder, maybe first this year & next with nothing else coming back is about right.

We should be looking to keep JJ. Sure, he certainly got the better of a big deal after 2016, but we can get his last few years on far less cash.

Still a best 22 player and has leg speed and foot skills, which we don’t have a stack of.

Good finals performer and clutch player who can be effective at either end.

If he’s got 2-3 years of good footy left, it should be with us.

This is how Ding Dong has started every negotiation in which he’s eventually given up the player or pick he said he wouldn’t

He said he wouldn’t trade Neale (the “feather in his cap”) but did. He said he would walk away from the Hogan trade but ended up giving up 6 & 23 anyway. He said he wouldn’t trade Hill without pick 6 as a starting point but did it anyway for pick 12.

This is the mating call of the Ding Dong. Now commenced it is inevitable that we will consummate our courtship before trade week is through.

A Brisbane trade will have to involve a player from their end coming to us.

It won’t work otherwise.

McCluggage thanks.
Well….as unlikely as that sounds, Power will be looking at it and enquiring every manager of who wants to come home etc.

Maybe we add a future 1st and take the initiative in a big deal?

I just don’t see how Power would hand over Dunks, so making a top 6 team even stronger and then banking on them finishing low to get value out of future picks.

It makes absolutely no sense.

I actually really like Lohman as a target but it’s an awkward one as he’s only been there for the year and it’s hard to put a finger on his value being a recent draftee, he couldn’t be anyway near comparable to Dunks but at the same time they wouldn’t want to give him away.

Other than that playerwise I really don’t see anything gettable

This is only a gut feel, but I think there’ll be a very good, established Lions player coming back our way.

I also think that explains some of the current circus, i.e. what’s going on with Dunks.

Power has likely told Pickering or whoever to shake one loose from up there.

Until they know what melbourne are going to need for jackson they'll pretend Lobb is untouchable.

once they know they'll lean on us for a first round pick, we'll offer up some bullshit deal of crap picks (probably futures). They'll fight back and forth and eventually we'll cough up a second rounder or something which is still probably too much and both sides can walk away pretending they won the trade.

Welcome to the trade period

Where do you hear that seems amateurish to say something like that surely not.
There was an article somewhere that stated Lobb was under that impression.
It is quite possible that, when Lobbs trade request last year fell though, he may have been told something along those lines.

You don’t enquire of the manager of who wants to come home you plant the seed to the manager here is the chance for your client to come home.

Start with McCluggage here is your chance to come home and get an extra x for yourself

The returns for Lippa and Young were good at the time of the trades. They only look problematic in retrospect.

I don’t mind us not getting Lobb if they insist on holding him - but I do hope we’ve been open with him that we may not get the trade done as we will only pull the trigger if it is equitable.

Getting bent over for a player nearing their career end with no evidence of consistency is not something we can ever accept.

I like the metaphor.
Bell plays hard to get, says I'm not that kind, but is in reality looking for someone to link up with.
Story ends with Sammy P bending him over.
(Bell recounts later: "Those eyes! When Sammy looked at me like that I just melted")
