Brown and McDonald will both be over 30 next season with a concerning injury history and I don’t think Weideman will make it.

They have to start looking into the future for their KPF’s as they theoretically could be contending for the next 3-5 years.
May and Gawn will also be be 31 going into the next season.

May also has to contend with the added issue of only being 8-9 off-field indiscretions away from Melbourne having to take a long hard look at his position on the list.

I really don't see Weideman making it either; if a tall forward hasn't taken one game apart after 6 years & 55 games then it's probably never happening.

Been reported as one of the clubs interested in McStay. I’m all for it tbh, if we can fit him in the cap you obviously do it - we all say the caps tight but we literally have no idea if that’s the case, I’d be surprised if it was bursting.

I wonder what our plans would be, I think I recall there being an article we were looking at key forwards to play as defenders? Can’t really remember what he was like as a defender tbh but I rate him forward - but then I don’t really see where he fits forward, I mean obviously he has a spot next year but is it worth it when both Jamarra and Darcy will hopefully be coming through soon, and he’s not a back up ruck option (whereas Lobb for example would make sense)

Any way probably not worth the discussion as he has plenty of suitors, we can’t beat other teams with money so why on earth would he come here to play a mixture of forward, defence and ruck in a notoriously shit team to be a tall - when he could go anywhere else
I think the article you’re referring to was the other way round, which is weird in itself. It stated that we have identified some key backs we think can turn into key forwards.

Ah right, yeah that was it.

Definitely weird, I dunno as long as we bring in at least one quality tall at one end it makes us a little bit more flexible I guess.

In the 2019 Draft, Adelaide recruited 2 players from the Sandringham Dragons both of whom were highyly rated key defenders.
McAsey went RD 1 pick 6 and Josh Worrell went RD 2 pick 28.
McAsey has played 10 games but none since 2020.
Worrell has played 1 game but none since June last year.
A quick look at SANFL results, it would appear that Worrell has the better form.
Both are contracted next year but I don't think Adelaide would stand in their way if either wanted to return to Melbourne.

Posters in the know have said McStay has told clubs he only wants to play forward.

Does he really fit in for us? I can see it riding heavily on Bruce's return.

Collingwood surely in box seat.

Not sure why North don't just blow rivals out of the water with a huge offer. FA so no picks to give up and surely they have millions in cap space. Who else can they be paying decent money to.

McStay is 195. Taller than Khamis or O'Brien or Cordy.

McStay has had 8 hit outs this year.

He's obviously your stereotypical Beveridge "mobile backup ruckman".

Worrell can play but I doubt he's on our radar as we said we want someone who can play on the gorillas and he plays a mobile running type of taller game.

At a guess we'll have another crack at Jaxon Paine this year although he's now under contract.

Yuck. McAsey, Worrell and Paine.

Shouldn't we be trying to aim bigger? I get they will be cheap, but none of these will get us a premiership.

I think we have to be a bit bolder which might mean trading out a Caleb Daniel or something.

I’d be offering Caleb well unders to stay. He’s the most expendable. Particularly when the club has a track record of trading in decent half backs (suckling, crozier, duryea) and developing others (like Richards, Dale, Williams).

I’m pretty confident bedendo could be well suited to a half back role as well. He’s quicker than Daniel and very very good in the air.

We have Cleary as well who is much better defensively already. Half back is really the least of our problems.

Paine is one that I think would be worth a look. Listed at 105 kg and 197 cm. Played 18 games. Dont forget our premiership defence wasn't built on first round draft picks.

Less enthused on the others, I'll agree there...

Our last premiership backline was a mixture of rookies, PSD picks and rejects.

Unfortunately Keath's tissue hamstrings mean we need a ready KPD.

We struggle against disciplined defensive sides so Daniel (who is one of the few players who can kick through a zone) is as required as you can get

You're not seriously comparing a yet-to debut Bedendo with AA defender and B&F winning Caleb Daniel?

The dogs identifying key backs we think can turn into forwards… gee wizz that doesn’t sound like the dogs at all (eye roll).

I’m talking about how easily we are able to produce decent half back flanks. I merely just suggested a player I think could fit the role.

Daniel has been so underwhelming this year. He’s a defensive liability and it’s a position we can cover pretty easily.

Agree. He's got value but could be replaced. We need to take some risks this off season. Trading Daniel is one I'm comfortable with.
