To say that I'm feeling incredibly disappointed that the only trades we seem to be doing are Lobb and Jones is an understatement of the century. I had more faith in Power that he was holding some trades close to his chest that didn't hit the media yet but honestly at this point with two days to go, doubt anything else is going to happen.

Incredibly disappointing that our defense doesn't look to be getting someone like a Lewis Melican or even god damn Tomlinson, we need better people down back and all we can do is a 31 year old Jones? Incredibly disappointing.

Are we no longer a desirable club after 2022? I mean we played finals, were pretty ordinary but players don't seem to want to come to us like the past.

He doesn't need much money from footy. He's doing pretty well at race horse syndication. Almost won the Caulfield Guineas on the weekend for the second time in a few years and the horse might end up being a live chance in the Cox Plate. IIRC correctly, he made a a packet out of Merchant Navy when it was sold to stud as well
Would Hunter just forgo the contract? It’s a lot of money to leave on the table.

That's just not true.

What makes this scenario more frustrating than normal, is that Dunkley has selected a club that just doesn't have the capacity to satisfy us in a trade. He seems to be their third priority this year. Just about any other club in any given year would be able to give us at least one decent pick for him and not expect anything coming back. There's a difference between losing a player for "less than ideal return," and being made offers that are blatantly insulting and ridiculous.

I agree that PSD almost never happens and is usually just a bluff, but this scenario is fairly unique and Bevo is probably the most unhinged bloke in the AFL, so there's a good chance it happens this year. Given that Brisbane have treated us with complete disdain so far, we are all hoping for it.
Bevo might genuinely value the line in the sand "buy-in" story-time narrative across the other 40 blokes more than he values a future 1R pick.

Lions just gave up 48 (and a future 4th) for Gunston.

Now they are really going to want picks back with 48 going out.

Should be interesting

It’s inconsequential amount of points. The fact that GWS now have pick 1, means they don’t need as many points as they would have IF North had the pick.

The saving on pick 2 compared to pick 1 is more than pick 48.

Basically Brisbane just need to offer:
F1 + F2 + 21 = Dunkley

It’s simple and should be done today.

I love how their supporters claimed they are “easy to deal with” while the actual club have spent over a week highlighting that they are both wanting to ignore any reasonable negotiation with us and coerce us into accepting a poor deal for Dunkley because he is uncontracted.

It’s disgraceful.

I agree it’s that simple but as it stands according to reports they have either only offered 21 + F1 or 21 + F1 with picks coming back

Also 48 is still 300 odd points which they are pretty desperate for

I don't want us to entertain any of this picks going back garbage. None of it. No picks going back.

Yeah we aren’t going to be left with one first rounder (a late one at that) and a couple of pick upgrades for Dunkley. That’s absolutely ridiculous.

The way Brisbane have tried to **** us over, has made me hate them. With a passion.

Looking at Brisbanes list, Lincoln McCarthy could be pushed to the side if Dunkley arrives. Dunks would play more midfield most likely and push Rainer and Zorko more forward time.

Would a deal of Dunks and P39 in return for P21, P55, F1st and McCarthy work?
I know McCarthy will turn 28 soon but should get 3 years. A hand high pressure forward who can kick straight.
Then use 30 & 55 as final offer on Lobb.
Would leave us 11, 21 and 69 this year and 2 firsts next year.

They need to take either a pick 1 or a pick 2 to the 2023 draft dont they?

Dont think we can use 39 twice. Could be wrong...

You seem like a glass half empty guy and so I am here to help as a glass half full kind of guy :)

Why would you be disappointed?

Trade period is littered with "they won trade period" and yet the next year they missed finals! just look at Essendon. Many of the list managers and recruiters will have targeted aims and this usually equates to around 1-3 players each year. If we get both Jones and Lobb then that is 2 and we may still get a 3rd on the final day. The reality is we needed more help for the defence and ruck and this will help these areas. All clubs look a few years ahead and next year is meant to be a stronger draft and we may have Croft junior coming through. Did you notice Croft senior back at the club this year....? I did! It means the club probably thinks his son may be "good enough" next year. Pick 11 (12 after Ashcroft) this year should be a very solid addition and could be a key back in Busslinger or a young mid. The reality is we had many players not getting a game in the seniors or being played out of position due to too many mids! Treloar is much better as a full time mid and our connection in the midfield has been ordinary to say the least the past few years. Personally I think the biggest growth we will have in the next 2-3 years is internal. Yes our list has holes but what are the hardest positions to get in any team... Key position players

Sam Darcy
Jamarra
Naughton

Those 3 should get you dejected mindset positive again. So many teams would kill for 3 players like this under 22.

It would be a mistake to recruit guys like Tomlinson or players that the club do not think will fit the team and its list needs.

The Dunkley trade will go down to the wire but the club has decided it is better to stand our ground and get a fair deal or let him go to the PSD. If the deal was fair or a little under I would say take it but Brisbane are taking the piss. I calculated the points and it added up to around pick 24-25. If we did a crap deal like that then Sam Power would lose all negotiating credibility going forward. I am ok with losing Dunkley for nothing if Brisbane do not "Pony up". I would not be surprised if a player comes into the equation at the last minute get the deal across the line (or they get serious with their offer).

So hopefully this helps mate and maybe it would be better to turn off Trade Radio today and get to gym and get the endorphins flowing. All I am trying to say is our list is really good but the AFL is at such a high level that if you are off 5% then 17 other teams will beat you!

I have faith in Bevo and hopefully he gets some extra support on top of Lade this year to help him as he is a hell of a coach but he has been stretched too much the past few years with COVID coach losses.

They could have wrapped this trade up 5 minutes into the trade period starting.
