One is also contracted and one is uncontracted.

Big difference.

I want to get fair compensation for Dunkley like everyone else, but you can't expect Fremantle to get rid of a contracted leading goal kicker for peanuts.
I agree
But the goose in your post is definitely Peter Bell with all the feather collecting he’s been doing

He doesn't need much money from footy. He's doing pretty well at race horse syndication. Almost won the Caulfield Guineas on the weekend for the second time in a few years and the horse might end up being a live chance in the Cox Plate. IIRC correctly, he made a a packet out of Merchant Navy when it was sold to stud as well
He owns 1-2% of them blue bloods and has had plenty of slow ones as well.

Merchant Navy a very good result, but he only had 1% and they went straight to the first bidder.

Lachie hasn’t made much money from racing, above result means he just hasn’t done his arse.

You have hit the nail on the head. It is not just Lobbs individual ability that makes him a great get, it is what he does structurally not just in a pure sense but for options b,c and d.

The thought that you are paying over for a structurally important player with a pick in the 20's where it is highly unlikely to draft that type of player and there are no tall forwards who can competently play ruck available astounds me.

Then there will be complaints we did nothing if we don't allegedly pay overs. Our list had 3 significant structural deficiencies. Getting Lobb would mean we have corrected 2 for the short term.

Proper drafting and development of players and gamestyle will address the rest so hopefully those making the decisions follow through on the above

This 100%. A pick in the 20’s is fine for Lobb. He’s exactly what we need. No one will miss that pick when the duo of him and Tim help us finish top 4 next year.

We need to be in a ‘win now’ mindset.

Yeah, nah

Most impartial observers would agree that two late first for Dunkley is a reasonable ask. The Taranto trade is a good example for an unbiased look at what fair value would be.

I think it's also true that most impartial observers would agree that 11 for Lobb is a ridiculous ask.
No one is suggesting that Lobb is worth pick 11.

This argument stems from us not wanting to give anything more than pick 30 for him. Freo are well within their right to refuse that, just like we are well within our right to refuse pick 21 for Dunkley.

Of course Dunkley's market value is more than Lobb, but the fact that one is contracted and one isn't makes a big difference.

Also, the Bears pick is probably going to be about 12 next year. They’re making a splashy move but haven’t addressed their biggest defensive issues. Imo Port’s pick 8 straight up would have been about right for him.
Always a risk of course with a future pick but they’ve been up for a number of years and had a long finals campaign. Would be delightful to see it become a top ten pick.

21 is too much. It’s half the likely Dunkley compensation.

Remove Dunkley from the equation.

If 6 rounds into this season someone said we could drop Cordy from CHF/ruck and replace him with Rory Lobb if we hand over a second round pick in the 20s, who wouldn’t have done that?

Also, I remember 2021 and what it’s like having two effective tall forwards so the idea of having Naughton, Lobb and JUH up forward and one or two of them not getting the best KPD, or even getting an outmatched medium defender, is pretty exciting for me.

Their own one and GWS
If Sydney were prepared to give us Pick #14 + Pick #17 + Pick #37 for Pick #11 + Pick #21 then I'd be prepared to pass that Pick #37 on to Brisbane along with Dunkley for Pick #21, Future 1st (Bris) and Future 2nd (GWS).

The net impacts would be:

Dogs:
Out: Dunkley, Pick #11
In: F1 (Bris), Pick #14, Pick #17, F2 (GWS)

Lions:
Out: Pick #21, F1 (Bris), F2 (GWS)
In: Dunkley, Pick #37

Sydney:
Out: Pick #14, Pick #17, Pick #37
In: Pick #11, Pick #21

Sammy Power could spin me that for a downgrade of Pick #11 to Pick #14 he's traded Dunkley for 2 late firsts (F1 Bris + Pick #17) and an early future 2nd. It's not what we wanted but its enough to save face without getting reamed on future deals (and enforcing the PSD draft threat).

We then tell Freo that Lobb clearly isn't worth a first rounder and so Pick #30 is the deal. We can throw in our future 3rd for their future 4th.

It’s inconsequential amount of points. The fact that GWS now have pick 1, means they don’t need as many points as they would have IF North had the pick.

The saving on pick 2 compared to pick 1 is more than pick 48.

Basically Brisbane just need to offer:
F1 + F2 + 21 = Dunkley

It’s simple and should be done today.
Have they received soem1 elses future 2nd. If not they can't trade both F1 and F2

Good point.

Give us Lobb this season and we'd have beaten the Dockers in round 21.

I was almost going to suggest we'd have beaten them twice, but I doubt Freo earn a home final without Lobb (in fact I'm almost certain of it), and I'm almost certain we'd have been the ones playing in a home final.

You could mount a strong case that we'd have likely beaten Carlton, Adelaide and Fremantle if we had Lobb for the entirety of 2022. We might have even got a bit lucky and beaten Geelong at least once.

Losing Dunkley for a F1 and Lobb would be sheer incompetence. 21 is also a valuable pick that we could use to get a good player, not just a 30 year old having the first good season of his career.

Lobb will fill a gaping hole in our list and allow us to finally play a two ruck system, with both our rucks being extremely competent in other positions. 21 would be fine. 21 with 44 coming back is even better.

Id like to hear you expand on exactly how it is that you base much of your premise on why Dunkleyis not a high priority for the dogs from a midfield perspective given how well he polled in the Brownlow and was the winner of our most recent B&F. Ive read it a number of times and it still makes no sense at all and is a complete non sequitur.
great inside midfielder but thats about it, doesnt have much else that makes him stand out like the others, doesnt have speed which smith and treloar have, doesnt have good ball use like macrae, libba and bont and isnt a overall match winner like bont is,

but he is a fantastic inside mid which you do need to make those others look better, but inside mids also grow on trees, gws getting 12 and 19 for taranto is the biggest W of the trade period

if this was any other club id say 21 and a f1 for dunkley sure but brisbane are shit campaigners so i want more for him ahah

So maybe 21, F1 and F2 for Dunkley and 39. Then we might end up giving 21 for Lobb. Leaving us with 11, 30, Lobb and Jones from the period?

You'd have to think Power turns that 21 into something else if it does happen, but maybe not. Don't think any of us will get it exactly and there's some machinations between now and the end of the period obviously, but probably thereabouts.

There'd be some melts but we'd probably justify it as having a KPD and KPF/ruck join us (2 of the 3-4 biggest holes on our list), plus we have our own first rounder and second rounder this year while plugging those critical gaps. Suffer the articles on how the trade period was "lost" or whatever. Brisbane have done well so their strategy will have worked, whatever you think about it. But games aren't played on paper, let's see how it goes next year.

Worst case scenario those future picks are late first and late second, but added to our own first and second next year would provide a decent draft hand to either get some good young talent or maybe even use in a trade for a player or two next year. Plus it gives us another team to root against, that's always fun :)

Who knows how it ends up working out? Brisbane might win the flag and it looks significant unders, or they might not and the assets look a bit better.

There's a kamikaze part of me that hopes he gets walked to the PSD though, as while it wouldn't be great for the dogs it would be pretty good content for the coming days. But ultimately the club will be pragmatic and get something done.

looking like we'll be the shaftees of trade period.

I do think we'll actually be a better team next year though. Lobb has such a good impact for English and Naughton. And will be good to have Dunkley out and have a more skilled player like Toby, Riley or Rhylee out there.

Good to bank the cap space from losing Dunks too. At some stage this day was coming. You can't be as stacked as we were for long sadly.
