Our third this year will be around the mid 40s. That plus perhaps pick 13 next year would be sufficient, or at least a pretty good starting point i'd have thought. Not really any players they'd pursue from us. Unless we gave them our second and they gave us their third perhaps.
So future first and 2022 second rounder for Logue, Lobb and Freo's third rounder. In any case, the Essendon part of that deal i'd be happy with.
Don't we have North's 3rd rounder too?

Has anyone noticed that Ads and Dunkley have stoped doing thier podcast ? It's been about 3 weeks since they posted anything.

Also Ads body language on field is poor at the best of times but it has been decisively worse over the past few weeks.

Either Dunks has told him he is leaving at years end or they have had a falling out ( or both).

This is going to be a fun off-season!

Wouldn't be opposed to the club talking to him as he is Marra's idol and would be a solid teacher, also Bevo would have some first hand knowledge.... but not at that price. Maybe if Lobb, if he is actually being spoken to, falls through. Would still be seriously be chasing a KPD as first priority.

Surely there is some magic creative accountancy that means we could pay him 600k, half as development coach and half as player for two years !!

Would pay itself back in membership and marketing, before the development of JUH and Darcy is considered !!

Have you seen their podcast?

North should offer him some good money for 2 years. I mean it won't cost them a thing in terms of trade capital, they are wanting an experienced player to add and surely they must have several millions of spare salary cap that is just sitting there and not being utilised. Maybe a coaching position (no idea what his coaching skills would be like but surely he knows a thing or two).

They would have to offer probably 1m a season though. He's not going there for an extra 100-200k.

After 2023 Polec's contract comes off the books. They'll be swimming in cap space

It’d be a no-brainer for any team struggling with memberships/attendances imo, he’ll give you a massive boost in that regard plus it’s not like he’s cooked - he’s played pretty decent footy this year. Mentor your key forwards and increase your media profile.

Yep, 2 years on decent coin if you don’t lose any draft capital would be fine.

Can Buddy play KPD?

Biggest issue for me is the number of players mid 20s or later who are not clear best 22.

Wallis
Mclean
Roarke
Schache
Crozier
O’Brien
Martin
Hannan
McComb
Cordy
Parker
Sweet
Scott

Even JJ and Williams have been dropped the last two years (though I think both have reasserted themselves).

Clearly you wouldn’t get rid of all of the above but I don’t think you can have that many in that age group clearly not in the best team on the list for long.

Wallis - likely delist or retire
Mclean - returning from injury - best 22 when fit.
Roarke - useful depth
Schache - useful depth
Crozier - useful depth
O’Brien - useful depth
Martin - retire
Hannan - delist/but Bevo won't do it
McComb - delist/but Bevo won't do it.
Cordy - useful depth
Parker - first year on list
Sweet - useful depth
Scott - useful depth.

it's a fair point, but it does depend a little on how much/little we are paying these guys.

If you picked up 2/3 KPD this season, you could easily let Cordy/Schache go - but we can't afford to right now as we don't have any replacements.

I'd be letting at least 4 go this year (see above), with Roarke, Schache, Cordy, Parker, Crozier, Scott under pressure at the end of next year. The only 2 WTF signings are Parker and McComb - for different reasons. We haven't seen enough of Parker (I certainly haven't) and far too much of McComb.

Agreed, I was going to mention something similar. A lot of our role players are very inconsistent and therefore are pretty poor role players.

I think we have a very talented top end of the list, the problem is it drops off quite significantly and we tend to struggle a lot more when injuries hit. We also have too many midfielders on the list and as a result some players can't play in their natural positions. Even Williams was an inside/outside mid as a junior.

I say it every year, but I'll keep saying it. I think we need to cut the list a lot deeper.

Good point. Given we have had to use our draft capital on 2 players the last 2 years, it’s been hard to bring a heap of new players in. Hopefully that changes this year

Very very accurate but I wouldn't be including McLean in this group. He's rarely played VFL footy unless it's coming back from injury.
