With Doedee doing his ACL, I don’t think there’s much left in free agency outside of average players (eg Silvagni) and veterans. Only big names are basically Himmelberg who is getting unrealistic offers, Parish who is an awful fit, and Jade Gresham who is overhyped and probably gets more at Saints anyway.

Could maybe see us bringing in Matt Flynn if Sweet leaves, or Riley Bonner if Duryea retires. That’s pretty much it
I’d still bring in Doedee for the 2024 finals series… surely his contract is $100k less now too.

I definitely wouldn't be against it if he came considerably cheaper. Would rather get rid of O'Brien, play Crozier, and have Doedee pressure for that interceptor spot in the back half of 2024.

If the Suns pick stays around 6-8 I could see us offering our two firsts for it, to take a skilled and athletic mid like Wilson, Duursma or McKercher. We might be able to get one of their picks in the 20s back to match a bid for Croft.

Get one of those mids, Croft and upgrade one or more of our rookies and/or take a late flyer on other needs.

Sign a FA wingman like James Jordon.

Not overly exciting and not the depth overhaul we need but realistically could see something like this happening.
I want Watson, duursma or sanders.

I reckon we'll be way out of Watson's range. If he was marginally taller he'd be considered ahead of Reid. I'm usually strongly against trading up (prefer multiple shots in the first round over a single player) but would love to do it if Watson is available

Wilson & Duursma are the other two worth trading up for. Either would be great for us.

The issue may occur where Croft is going to be bid on in the middle of the first round, so one of our picks gets used up on him.

His height will scare people off like It did Darcy Jones last year, at this stage I think he goes 10-20. Duursma will go first of the three.

If Croft is likely to go mid first round package up our picks to get in a pick before having to match. GWS have done it with their academy kids. Suns have done it in the past and would do this except they have 3 this year

The other may be GWS with 6 if they look at trading for 1. They could give WCE 4 and 12, plus F2 rather than 4 & 6, and keep 15.

Apparently himmelberg is playing back second half of the year. Will cost a bomb but if the club view backline reinforcements as a priority and he performs I’d expect them to make a play given they went in for Doedee

Commanding 700-800k is what I read recently. Crazy money.

Guess we can assume Cleary is being delisted. Consistently one of our best players in the VFL and still can’t get a game when JJ and Richards are injured

Personally think there’s very little chance he slips past 10, unless he has a terrible Champs.

Even if Beveridge isn’t going to play them this year, I hope we keep players like Cleary, Khamis and Raak that are 23 and under and let go older players like McComb, Hannan, McLean, Roarke and Crozier that have also hardly played. Those late 20s players that aren’t clear best 23 and don’t have any improvement left in them are cloggers, even if they’re good enough to get another go elsewhere.

Watch Cleary play at VFL level, then watch how our players like JJ/Dale play at AFL level. They play different roles.

I won't.
Arty Jones without the intensity. Hard pass for me
