Gets complication but what about Option 3 (starts in Ports favour) but adding Ports Future 2nd and our Pick 37 to balance a bit .

Essentially: Bergman + Amon Compo (~Pick #26) + Future 2nd for Dunkley + Pick 37
Maybe - but as a few others have said I think the headline has to be a high pick. Maybe if we can roll a few second rounders into a high first but that's normally harder than it sounds.

Edmund just did another update. Essentially said at this stage the Dunkley camp haven’t rejected our offer. Not really sure that means it’s going positively.

He’s probably received our offer, it’s not a bad one, ports one is probably heaps better, but he doesn’t wanna go there, and now weighting up what to do.

SEN this morning with Whateley going with talks resuming between Dunks and club. And positive.

Not sure how good Sammy Edmund is though.
Sammy pretty spot on imo
He doesn't run a story without good credits

Poor Dunks, having to decide with:

  • netballing GF in Adelaide, possibly short-term given Super Netball CBA expiring mid-2023
  • close mates all at VUWO
  • his dad likely telling him to go elsewhere (anywhere?)
  • family dinnertime with Lara and Kyle focussing on their own failed/failing high level sporting careers instead of focussing on his potential contract windfall
  • who knows what Mrs Dunkley is advising him
  • then Adz, slim Tim and who knows what other WB players with netballing partners coping just fine with long-term relationships.
  • his manager not giving a sh1t what Dunks wants as long as he gets his pound of flesh in dollar terms

He needs to read more BF, and listen less to the bunch of hangers-on in his family with their own competing self-interest!

I think the Dunkley deal is more complicated because in 1 years time he becomes a free agent and I would think the Dogs may have put a lengthy deal in front of him to take free agency into account , it is further complicated by the fact he has already asked to be traded 2 years ago, then it seems his father will want to have his say, and of course his partner who plays netball in SA etc etc.

I don't think the issue is opportunity and midfield time and I think he is happy at the Dogs.

The above factors impact to varying degrees.

So IMO it comes down to $ and maybe at another club he is "the man" where as at the Dogs he is one of a few Bont, Naughts, Smith etc

I can see the Bombers coming again for him, I also think clubs like the Tiggers, Gold Coast and even Geelong may ask the question

Edmund was the one with all the Dunkley info last time around right that always seemed to be correct? I think it was quite obvious that he was/is receiving info from Dunkley's camp.

Most likely from Pickering who I think is Dunkley's player agent.

I will be staggered if Dunkley doesn’t request a trade. He is clearly one of these types that values getting paid above all else.

No doubt he will claim instances of bad culture (if there could be no bigger irony than sayin Dogs have a bad culture, trade me to Bombers), or whatever else to mask it - but he is after money and that is all.

Been painfully obvious since the surprise trade request 2 years ago.

Loving the fairy tales about Dunkley on here. Each post adds a little more to the story.
Sure it's speculation, but the way people are talking about him as though all these little tales are concrete evidence of anything is really something else.
If you think my post was anything other than a p1ss take, I have a contract with Port Adelaide for 2023 to offer you. :)

Don’t think there is anyone doubting his happiness with the club. He’s not the only afl player to be wanting to look after his wallet.
Yeah, we'll never know what's in front of him - but if he has 2 years at $650-700k at another club (when he can then test free agency), vs four years at $500-$600k at the dogs, I would't be castigating him for going for the former if it's also a club with potential. We can all get a bit one-eyed about this.

Hope he re-signs, but if he doesn't then fair enough - hopefully we get some decent draft capital back to work with and can fill an area of need.

The other thing with a player like Dunkley (who might be seen to value the career aspect of football rather than other factors like club loyalty) is that with the downside of contract negotiations come significant upside in the level of professionalism in approaching a game, fitness, getting the body right, longetivity, leaving no stone unturned etc. He's proven that to be the case over the past 2 years. You can be sure he'll put in the work to earn his pay check.

what would everyone think our offer is. I would say 4 years at 2.4 or 5 years at 3 mill. i think that is pretty fair. probably worth upto 700 but surely 600 with loyalty to the club

We gave Hunter & JJ long term contracts at 650k, Dunks easily worth more - but that says more about our past list management tbf. I’d happily take Dunks for 4-5 years at 650, anymore probably pushing it considering our list demographic.
I'm sure he is looking at the Rankine contract offer thinking why isn't Adelaide offering that to him.

I think the ones to watch here are Geelong especially if they win the flag, can see a heap of their players hanging up their boots if they get their hands on the big one. Will have dollars to spend, Dunkley would be straight into their best 23 even without Selwood, Smith, Stanley and Higgins retiring, can’t see any of them going round again if they win it.
