Melbourne paid pick 27 for Grundy last year. I can't see how they possibly land a pick as high as 22 for him 12 months later. Pick 30 far more likely.
Melbourne will have to send something else aswell. Either a pick or a player. Swans are reportedly keen on Harmes so he could be steak knives.

Depends on who is paying his contract.

You will get him cheap if you're prepared to pay up in salary cap, if Melbourne still have to pay some of his salary they will want a better draft pick.

Wonder what the contract situation will be like, can’t see Melbourne wanting to pay any of it and Pies won’t be liable for it either

Melbourne equally will want him off their books, so Sydney have leverage.

Melbourne also paid pick 27 for him whilst paying the majority of his salary. If it's not a salary dump they're better off just keeping him.

I think there was just enough in our small sample size, one sided W/L column with Sweet playing to investigate further. Particularly considering that 2022 and 2023 have been wastes of time anyway. Could have been nothing in it, maybe there was. Marking is a weakness, but it's not a strength of several rucks playing for good sides either. McInerney averaged 1.8 a game this year. Alas.

We are not going to get much for a guy who played 0 games this year and is out of contract.

I wouldn't really waste time drafting rucks though, we just need to enter the merry go round of cheap journeyman backup rucks. Welcome back BTC? English + Lobb, then Darcy, is a solid rotation. But would be nice to have a brute ruck to soak up contact in the vfl while developing Darcy as a fwd/ruck.

Jordon Sweet has played 11 games, none this year and is out of contract.

Lewis Young landed us pick 52. Realistically we won't be getting anything better than that. PA won't be giving us pick 43. Seems like pick 72 or maybe something better if they manage some other trades.

I don't really agree with that comparison. From memory, we offered Young a one-year deal, but he was very close to delist territory. We've had a two-year deal in front of Sweet for months. Our desire to hold Sweet is much higher than it was for Young. Also, Port are presumably looking at Sweet to be their #1 ruck next year, whereas Young was brought in as a speculative defensive option. Port's desire to bring Sweet in is a lot higher than Carlton's desire for Young was. With that said, I don't think Sweet is worth more than a 2nd or 3rd round pick, but I don't think we'll let him go for a token steak knife either.

We have zero bargaining power as he is out of contract. We can't just choose to keep him as he can walk to the PSD.

Lapinksi snared us picked 43 and he played 50+ games, which is another reference point.

Just by being a tall ruck could get us slightly more if lucky.

Port are most likely going to finish top 4, it is very unlikely they will get Sweet in the PSD if that is how it plays out. That won't happen.

Games played is not relevant, in my opinion. Everyone knew we barely wanted Lipinski and were happy for him to leave. We wanted Sweet to stay and offered him a two-year deal. That fact alone changes the scenario. With that said, I think something around the pick 40 mark would be fair. Something about pick 70 however would not be.

That’s not how it works because we offered Sweet a 2 year contract extension doesn’t mean we will get anything of value for him.

Whether we want to keep someone or not is not actually relevant if they are out contract and have better opportunities elsewhere and want to leave. Whether they are contracted and how much they are paid is.

Liam Jones got the Blues pick 49 as compo. Liam Jones would be paid way more than Sweet.
