Nup. Screw their steak knives.I haven't seen a ton of him, but could Mitch Knevitt be a steak knives inclusion to help get a bit more value out of Geelong?
VFL stats look great, draft profile and write ups sound interesting, can't really break into the Geelong team and now goes behind Bailey Smith plus possibly others. Under contract for one more year and not sure how highly rated he is by Geelong, but only 2 games this season so may be looking for a fresh start?

Put together some nice VFL games down the stretch this season.

Could be a Bedford type opportunity that could improve at AFL level at a new club, but we will probably not even look at him and let Geelong develop him into a star.I haven't seen a ton of him, but could Mitch Knevitt be a steak knives inclusion to help get a bit more value out of Geelong?

We are screwed if he nominates Geelong and/or Hawthorn. Neither have great picks and the Hawks will have burnt through anything decent for their earlier acquisitions. If it is Geelong, what are we looking at? They don’t exactly have a wealth of picks. And I can’t see any of their players coming our way.
Maybe Scott can take Bevo under his wing and show him his big book of tactics in lieu of a traditional trade.
It's not a question of rolling over. It's a question of a system that is heavily stacked in favour of players who request a trade. We will roll over as we are a little club and are suppose to hand over our players to the big boys. Same old, same old. We don’t get big games, no one wants to play for us as we can’t offer the “deals” Geelong do and the AFL wants/needs Hawks to be successful. We don’t shut up and take it, we will get screwed again by the fixture. Take it to the bank. We have to stay in our place
I agree. And if Bailey nominates the Cats and if the Cats don’t offer fair value I hope the club does walk Bailey through to the draft and when Bev is questioned about it he raises the issue of the competence of a player manager that would get his client into such a situation. Bev should mention it in every press conference up to Round 0. Repeatedly.I hope we are taking into account the players manager when drafting or trading for players.
There are certain agents that are totally poisonous influences.
That is why I feel that rumor is BS. It would have been out in the public domain well before any so called deal was laid out. That Smith wanted out or had requested a trade. The only deal I could say was unexpected and a blind side was us getting Tom Boyd. But we knew most of the other part of the deal was set to happen. Can't recall any other big named player that was suddenly traded without anyone knowing. Just another rage bait Big Footy rumour. No way we rejected that after trading our own first rounder.
Certainly worked out brilliantly for all involved! If we are not happy with what the Cats are offering we can always do a
VEAL DEAL!
Certainly worked out brilliantly for all involved!
No current season stats available
I personally think using the draft points index is a poor guide. Say we rate Smith as a pick 10. Means we'd be wanting a pick 10 for him, so we can get the 10th best player in the draft that we feel can adequately match or surpass Smith's contribution. Unless we package up the picks to move up. Which can cost us more than the two picks we do get. Those two picks could end up a pick around 20 and late in the 30s. Which is essentially a second and third round pick. So we"d be getting the 20th and near 40th best players in the draft. If we are replacing Smith, I'd want him to be replaced by a top end mid in the draft.Incredible to think they’d have the audacity to ask for a third rounder in return.
16 + 36 is valuing Smith around pick 8 which I think most would consider as being fair value (hello Josh Battle). Sending back a future third drops it to picks 12-14 at best guess depending on results next year.
Literally no one has leverage and no Sam a pick in the 20's isn't remotely close enough especially when you look at the shite they're talking for Dan Rioli and Liam BakerNo club of choice as Bailey Smith officially requests trade from Western Bulldogs
The star Dog wants out at the Whitten Oval.www.sen.com.au
Bailey Smith has officially requested a trade away from Footscray, and while no club was nominated, the 23-year-old is said to have a home in mind.
Speaking with the Western Bulldogs today, Smith expressed his desire to exit the club, with talks of a move to Geelong believed imminent.
“This is the big day of exit meetings at the Dogs, and they are sweeping through all the AFL listed players at the moment,” Journalist Sam Edmund told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.
“Bailey Smith looked at Luke Beveridge today and told him he doesn’t want to play at the Bulldogs anymore and instead, he wants to be traded away from Whitten Oval, this being the sixth year since he was taken with pick seven in the 2018 draft.
“I’m told he went into some detail about why he wanted to be traded, and the reasons and the motivations for wanting out, there’s lots of scuttlebutt about those, perhaps those reasons will become more concrete in time.
“He didn’t however request a club, Bailey Smith. That club will be Geelong.
“He’s 23, played 103 games, recovering from a knee reconstruction of course, the Dogs revealed the news in a statement, saying “given his immense talent, his age and his proven ability to influence games, the club will work diligently to ensure it is fairly compensated throughout the process.
“So, this is where Geelong’s first round pick comes into it. As it stands, they have got pick 16 but, there’s father-sons, there’s academy bids to come, maybe Josh Battle compensation for St Kilda in the top end as well, so that Cats first rounder could be pushed further back, certainly into the 20’s if they win the premiership.
“Will that be enough for the Western Bulldogs? Will that have to be enough for the Western Bulldogs given Bailey Smith is out of contract and has all the leverage?”
Although it was apparent that several clubs were interested in Smith’s services, Geelong will be the landing place for the young midfielder for reasons beyond the finances.
“It’s been Geelong in the box seat for the better part of 18 months,” Edmund continued.
“I see no reason that that has shifted. We know that Hawthorn have got other priorities in terms of (Tom) Barrass, (Josh) Battle and the like.
“I am told though that it’s not huge money, that basically any other club could fit him in so it’s not a money decision from Bailey Smith at all.
“There’s a bit of lifestyle in there, there’s a bit of football programming in there as well I understand.
“He was out of contract at the Western Bulldogs who would have surely offered him a long-term deal as well.
“Don’t pretend to know the length of the contract at the Cats or anything else at the Cats but it will be a long-term one for sure.”
Certainly worked out brilliantly for all involved!
Thought it was brilliant at the time. What a shocker for all involved !
Was unique and fun though.
Keep it in our back pocket maybe 2nd time lucky
You wouldn’t want Sam Edmund running a club lolLiterally no one has leverage and no Sam a pick in the 20's isn't remotely close enough especially when you look at the shite they're talking for Dan Rioli and Liam Baker
Macrae isn't the right "mentality" for a defenderApart from speed, Bailey Smith doesn't tick the boxes we need. He laid 1 tackle in the 2021 GF. For a guy with a so-called big tank and speed, not many run down tackles there. He can take his handbag and hair products to Geelong for all I care.
If we can't find a spot for Jack Macrae on the wing or in the middle, I would move him back ala Matthew Boyd. He is a great mark and solid guy.
Influencers and social animal early 20's types want to go to the big MCG games, they don't want to go to a 21,000 crowd home game at Docklands vs. Fremantle. It's not a question of rolling over. It's a question of a system that is heavily stacked in favour of players who request a trade.
The only mitigating factor to this is if your club is seen as a destination club or has a long legacy of success and plays in front of big crowds on a regular basis. Two things that are actually one and the same in this competition.
Because building ones brand and selling garbage to as wide an audience as possible is the only game in town for the truly self absorbed as we saw recently with Petracca and now Smith. Football is becoming just another means of obtaining the key that opens many doors commercial opportunity for these guys at the top of the AFL influenza tree. Somebody who follows this vapid world. Can you remind me. How many insta followers did Smith have before he was even drafted?
If I cared to remember, Im pretty sure it was already a literal shit tonnes worth.
Clubs that don't fit into either of these categories, which is literally every club outside of a handful of established Melbourne powerhouses are destined to get ****ed.
They'll continue to make all the right equalisation noises, but the AFL are of course are ok with this Lord of the Flies game of survival of the establishment richest.
I'll leave it to the trade experts to spin their wheels setting an unobtainable benchmark for what we should demand in return from whomever Smith Chooses to nominate. Its Geelong. It was always Geelong.
Or how we should indulge in a bit of self nose removal just to prove our machismo and walk him to the draft for nada.
Drive as hard a bargain within the realms of what is achievable given the above.
Cash him in. Move along little doggies.
It's genuinely ridiculous how they say its a first rounder when it ends up being pick 25 and act like its the same as pick 5You wouldn’t want Sam Edmund running a club lol
