I would imagine De Koning is worth more on the trade market than Smith is. Hope we target SDK, good player already / outstanding prospect but if its either of us adding something to the deal, its probably us

I can't imagine them allowing De Koning to leave
Someone just told me :
All three clubs currently discussing,
McKay to Melb
SDK to Carlton
Oliver to Geelong

Have no idea if this has any credibility.

This band one compensation news is a disaster for our Geelong pick.

We better be demanding a lot more than just their first now.
Been saying for a while now that Geel need to find a way to get that pick 15 up closer to 10 so that it ends up around 12

An arbitration panel for unrestricted free agents would have solved it, and make the acquiring club pay in draft pick points rather than bumping others down the order.

It’s utterly stupid as it is now.
In an ideal world compo shouldn’t be in the first round for anyone….more like the Franklin situation

The funny thing about Smith taking so long to request a trade, sitting with their sponsors, mentally checking out of the Dogs is that it'll put more pressure on Geelong to make a deal. They've committed to Smith and Smith has committed to him. The downside on missing out on Smith is more than the ordinary fact that you don't want to see through a trade of a player. We didn't commit to James Peatling before a trade got done, so there was no issue with our longer term relationship with him and his management team when we refused to up our offer to match Adelaide's. That isn't the case with Smith.

Probably be atleast 40 by the time we pick if that if we end up keeping it
Not quite, because picks in the 30s will be used to match picks in the top 20, so picks will actually move up

Hopefully it does move up a little. Just want as many higher picks in this draft as possible and hit the draft as hards as we can to try and fix our aging list problem before it gets out of hand Norf style

Melbourne has its future first-round pick on the table for the Suns' selection as well, while Sydney has looked at packaging its first-round picks to move up the board. The Giants, now armed with picks 15, 16 and 21, could also look to shift up the board while the Western Bulldogs are another club to have been linked with the selection.

We are apparently trying to get the Suns pick 13
