I know Callaghan has a connection to the Dogs (he’s Bevo’s wife’s cousin) but would that be enough of a call, especially given that Bevo’s time at the club is finite?
Short answer no. It’s probably about as relevant as the Bont and Josh Kelly are friends links years ago. Professionals don’t make contract decisions based on where their friends play or where their Aunties husband coaches.

For anyone wanting to know some insight about Marra. Marras dad recently loved an article where Tom Boyd was questioned about ending his career early. The article specifically quotes “if you don’t think you can do that the only right thing to do is to take a step back and consider whether you want to play long term”.

I haven't seen a lot of Callaghan play, but what I have seen hasn't impressed me; his statistics also look average.
He looks good, not great and he is still young but I wouldn't want to give up an early first round pick for him I don't think.

What am I missing?

I think it shows that for Marra it’s less about off field dramas and more about having fallen out of love with the game and the associated pressures potentially.
It's not really about this. The boy is in the wrong crowd using his new found cash and fame to party it up. That then is causing the unmotivated marra. Take his $s away then you'd see a different story

I think we'll be in a position to put a really big offer to a Callaghan or maybe even a Butters next trade period.

At a time where caps are expanding, we cleared a heap of space last year - Daniel, Macrae and Smith would've been the best part of $2mill.

Kennedy as the incoming would be a small % of that.

Re-signings of Darcy and Red will take a good chunk of that. They deserve a substantial upgrade, but seem happy campers who won't require exorbitant rises to be convinced to stay.

Jamarra would've been a big one at his trajectory as of last year, but his market rate is suffering by the week.

Reckon we'll have quite the war chest.
