Re: Atkinson Delisting

Try list another 3 players that are contracted until 2010 that look disposable.

I reckon Atkinson is one bad game away from being gornnn.

Re: Time's up for Neagle+Laycock?

If I was the Gold Coast I'd give him a chance.

With a list of 50 or whatever they've got, they don't have a lot to lose.

Re: Atkinson Delisting

I understand that his contract ends at the end of 2010. Just cant see Essendon delisting Atkinson, maybe he has a spot at GC

then who was phone?!?!?

Re: Atkinson Delisting

Might need to get rid of four if we want to promote Howlett or one of our other rookies.

Rookie promotions count as list changes for the next few years because of the compromised drafts.

We could promote Howlett, trade in X and only take one pick in the draft, if we wanted to.

Re: Atkinson Delisting

He's an erratic depth player at best, and you have to delist a number of players every year.

Who else on the list would you get rid of? Bold players are best 22 or solid depth players. Italics are the young ones who obviously deserve time to develop.

Bellchambers
Carlisle
Colyer

Davey
Dempsey
Dyson
Fletcher
Gumbleton

Hille
Hocking
Hooker

Howlett
Hurley
Jetta

Long
Lovett-Murray
McVeigh
Melksham
Monfries
Myers

Pears
Prismall
Reimers
Ryder
Slattery

Slattery
Stanton
Still
Watson
Welsh
Williams
Winderlich
Zaharakis

Which leaves:

Daniher - Younger and taller, with the potential to be a key defender once Fletch goes. Unless he's clearly off the pace he'll be given more time.
Hardingham - Younger and we only just drafted him, so he'll be given time to show what he can do.
Houli - Could go, but is younger and has shown improvement. Likely to be a trade or GC17 if anything.
Laycock - Still our third best ruckman and a solid depth player. Only a few months older than Atko too.
Lonergan - Clearly a decent depth player as shown by recent form. Likely to go when pushed out by being unable to get a game, which hasn't happened yet and probably wont 'till next year sometime. Two years younger.
Neagle - Might go, but could demonstrate the will to play and show himself as an excellent forward still - we'll have to wait out the year. Three years younger.

So yeah. as far as players go, Atkinson would have to be up there as a delist chance unless we do a bit of trading and let go of some other players who've shown at least as much if not more.

But the question is lamaros, has Atkinson become a best 22 player. Essendon, if they believed he was a best 22 player would surely not delist him.

Exactly. And the ones in bold are clear ahead of him, which leaves competition for delisting against the others. All of whom have good if not better cases than Atko.

It's harder to get good key position players than half-backs who are erratic and can't defend all that well, so when it comes down to it Laycock (who would be in the best 22 of many clubs at the moment if he was fit as he is a decent ruckman) is harder to replace than Atko, as is Daniher. Unless they really rate Bock's chances to improve...

So he's up against Houli, Lonergan, Neagle and Hardingham for the delist/trade spots. All of which I've reasoned for.

I wouldn't say Atko is a definite delist, but he's in contention at this point.

IMO Atkinson shits on Houli in terms of our gameplay

Re: Time's up for Neagle+Laycock?

Should bump some pre season hype threads for these 2 players, they were laughable and predictable. Pre season heros.

People always downplay the importance of being competitive. These 2 guys both have AFL level talent (not star talent though) but they are very flawed in the head.

Re: Atkinson Delisting

Atko's disposal and run has been on point all year since coming into the side. 100% efficiency last night against the dogs and a good defensive job to boot.

if he strings more games like that together there's no way he'll be delisted.

Re: Atkinson Delisting

Easily ahead of Houli.
I don't think we'll be doing a whole lot this off-season. Maybe only the minimum 3 delistings. Bach, Laycock and ......

Wait and see.

Agree. + Neagle.

Atkinson is playing good footy and while he is borderline best 22 with Reimers, Hooker and Dyson to come back in I think he is at least ahead of the Houli, Neagle and Laycock.

Plus there are rumours (I'm not convinced to be honest) that we'll be trading for a young gun like Sidebottom or Boak which would like involve players plus draft picks so I think he'll be safe.
