Is Giles really as bad as it's made out to be in this thread??

I remember him being decent enough at GWS.

Actually Giles would be a good get in exchange for a pick 50 something or higher.
Was a very good ruckman in the SANFL prior to being drafted.
He probably hasnt had the quality mids to rove to him.

Good cheap mature/experienced ruck imo and wouldnt look out of place as a second string ruck if called upon.

If we assume that next season Lycett will play as well as Sinclair, then the cost for Jetta should essentially end up being whatever we pay for Giles and a downgrade on our 3rd ruckman.

That's a huge win. The only problem is that bringing in Jetta may have shaken Rosa free but hopefully that brings about something decent, as unlikely as it is.

28 yo at start of year footy journeyman relocating other side of country for 40k a year in hope of an injury or 3. Yeah, just can't see it happening.

They get far more than 40K these days mate.

If Carlisle goes to Hawthorn Essendon end up with picks #4, #15, #18, #23 and #25.

That IMO opens up the possibility of Rosa for that pick #25

Sydney still have not addressed there need for picks however.. they have to be looking at deals for there pick#14 surely..

Again, Essendon went in thinking they were better off without a ruckman against NicNat this year rather than giving Giles a crack.

He's had three clubs now to prove people wrong.

Hird was scratching himself and bumping into things by that point. Giles' stats for his 3 games at Essendon were fine. He was good at GWS before they recruited Mumford (he only got 9 games in his 3rd year after that happened). We'll pick him up for peanuts.

He's just not a bad option when we need a 3rd string ruck and have limited trading clout left.

Essendon in a great spot for a rebuild albeit in a week draft. Agree that it makes Essendon more likely to part with a pick and pay overs to get a player like Rosa in.

Potentially dumb question about the compo picks...

Lions, Hawks & us all had R2 compos. What order do they fall? According to ladder position or in order of when the deals were done?

To be fair, it's about 55k plus match fees if he plays. Not a huge amount.

He'd probably play at least a handful of games though so not terrible.

Just looked it up. 54k. Point still stands. He isnt coming over for that kind of pay.

Maybe not, but that's assuming he's picked up on the rookie list. Might be currently studying which would make it worthwhile.

Sorry for the intrusion fellas, but he didn't get many games for us for a few reasons:

1. Turned up to pre-season unfit
2. Played like shit in the NAB Cup
3. Played like shit in the VFL
4. Injured in the AFL once he got up there

He's a serviceable 3rd ruck if you can make sure he stays fit. Colledge straight swap would do nicely for us.

Pretty sure WC & Haw get R2 (so just after their original R2 selections) and Bris are getting the next band down which is at the end of the second round. So something like WC 37,38, Haw 39,40, Bris 41

A young kid would relocate across the country for a rookies pay but I cant imagine someone like Giles would. Would be better off just getting a nine to five job. He is more than likely going to need to get a normal job within a few years anyway....

Rookie pay is alright if you go to uni and study....

The rookie pay of circa $50k is a minimum. I expect Lucas is on more and I believe there is nothing stopping us from paying a rookie $150k.

Only one WA prospect in Twoney's top 25 Phantom Draft - and he comes in at 17 (Ah Chee). It seems we've been going downhill with our young talent in the last few years.

Especially when some chick gets rated higher than any of our WA boys:

I hope Hibbered slides..He's exactly what Simmo wants Versatile can play a range of positions and is a elite kick ! Have we ever drafted a Tasmanian though ?

I'm sure the club would be willing to pay part of his salary as well. We may need to to get to above 95%
