Not sure about this - I'm not deadset against Richards by any means, but the whole scenario paints a picture of an individual neither particularly resiliant nor desperate to play.

I think it's a valid concern.

I know people who have spoken to him about his footy. He is really keen to play. He simply answered a question with an honest answer.

No issue with him being honest - don't even have an issue with his approach to footy, that's for him and him alone.

Until I see him play, I'll wonder about his hunger. Hope my concerns are unfounded but the proof will be in the pudding as they say.

Not necessarily, could just be that the decision on both of them would've been made today with paperwork being lodged at some point after the DFA period re-opens on Thursday.

Also there is currently up to three additional spots free on the senior list (if we delist McKernan and want a list size of 40 players), otherwise we potentially have two spots available.

We went into this year with a list size of 39 players. So far we've had 9 outgoing players and we know we've got 4 players incoming to the senior list (Kelly, Dea, McDonald-Tipungwuti and McKenna), meaning that if McKernan is kept on we'll have 6 spots available.

Dodoro all but confirmed in his trade-wrap that we're likely to use 4 picks in the draft (Picks 1, 20, 29 & 41). This leaves up to 2 spots free on the senior list.

You left out Stewart.
I think there are 5 spots if we go 40 main list + 4 rookies.

I interpreted it as we will take one of Green or Richards in the PSD. If two spots were open one of them would have been signed today.

I've seen a couple of people mention the PSD. Genuine question, why would we use the PSD when we can take anyone that we would select in the PSD as a delisted free agent? Is there any value in the PSD for us now that no one of value has walked out of their club?

The PSD gives us extra time to look at those DFA's or undrafted/state league players

Issaac Heaney
Callum Mills
Darcy Parish
Clayton Oliver
Jacob Hopper
James Sicily
All good 1st year players.

I wasn't necessarily talking about ready to go juniors what about these blokes that played in their 1st year, I wouldn't call them juniors.
Anthony Mcdondal Tipungwuti
Josh Smith
Sam Collins
Marcus Adams
Josh Wagner.

I'm suggesting some handy types such as
Bolton, Bell and Ryan.
They are ready to go after Stanton and Myers hang up the socks after the 2017 season.
And neither of these guys are juniors.
But I'm suggesting the juniors that we do grab make them a few, that way they are more than likely can develop and will play at the club in future.
Cheers
Sicily played zero games in his 1st year and 3 games in his 2nd year. 2016 was his 3rd year in the system.

I think taking 4 picks to nationsl draft is good as guaranteed in a strong draft.

If Smack is delisted then 2 more list spots will be available. It might be Richards and Green and we don't take any in the PSD.

With the delisted free agent rules introduced hardly anyone is taken in the PSD. I can't think of a big name who is unsigned, and might be available in the PSD.

Or it could be we sign one of Richards or Green and get other to train with us. Then if we are happy we get them in the PSD.

Smack has been delisted. Which is likely to mean 2 players are in the radar as delisted free agent signings. Leaving 4 picks for national draft.

39 spots filled due to top ups. I think we only have 2 spots available if McKernan is delisted (using 4 picks in the draft).

We actually had 39 players on the list before the top-ups were brought in. I'm not including them in this because they were all on temporary contracts.

Now that McKernan has been delisted this is how our list is shaping up:
SENIOR LIST:
Outgoing: Michael Hibberd (traded), Jason Ashby (delisted), Adam Cooney (retired), Courtenay Dempsey (delisted), Yestin Eades (delisted), Shaun Edwards (delisted), James Gwilt (delisted), Nicholas Kommer (delisted), Shaun McKernan (delisted), Tayte Pears (retired).
Incoming: James Stewart (trade), James Kelly (delisted free agent), Matthew Dea (delisted free agent), Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (rookie upgrade), Connor McKenna (rookie upgrade), Pick 1, Pick 20, Pick 29, Pick 41.

So going off of this, from the former list of 39 players we have 10 outgoing players (list reduced to 29 players) and 9 confirmed incoming players (list size increased to 38 players). So yes if we do go down the 40 senior list/4 rookies (plus max of 3 Cat B rookies) route we have two additional places on the senior list available. This by extension means that we have 3 rookie spots and 3 Cat-B rookie spots available.

ROOKIE LIST:
Outgoing: William Hams (delisted), Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (rookie upgrade), Connor McKenna (rookie upgrade), Gach Nyuon (delisted), Tom Wallis (delisted).
Retained: Jake Long.
Incoming: Shaun McKernan (delisted for senior list).

So as far as the rookie list is concerned if we go with a full squad of 40 senior listed players we will have two rookie list spots to fill.

Here is what I'd like to see happen to fill those spots.

National Draft:
Pick 1 - Hugh McCluggage
Pick 20 - Joshua Battle (or William Hayward)
Pick 29 - William Hayward (or Dylan Clarke)
Pick 41 - Joshua Begley
Pick 68 - Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (rookie upgrade)
Pick 95 - Connor McKenna (rookie upgrade)

*Really want all of Battle, Hayward and Clarke but I'm not sure the latter two would last until Picks 29 and 41 respectively.

Delisted Free Agency/Pre-season Draft:
Jake Barrett & Xavier Richards (or if the club really wants Green, him instead of Barrett).

Rookie Draft:
Pick 1 - Jye Bolton
Pick 19 - Sean Darcy

Potential 2017 Best 25:
FB:
Michael Hurley - Michael Hartley - Mark Baguley
HB: Brendon Goddard - Cale Hooker - Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti
C: Travis Colyer - Jobe Watson - David Zaharakis
R: Matthew Leuenberger - Dyson Heppell - Zach Merrett
HF: Kyle Langford - Joe Daniher - Jayden Laverde
FF: Orazio Fantasia - James Stewart - Aaron Francis
I/C: Darcy Parish - David Myers - Brent Stanton - Tom Bellchambers

EMG:
Connor McKenna - Mitch Brown - Heath Hocking

Downie signed at GWS for 2 more years

Probably a dumb question, but is it normal for listed players to be training at local gyms on a weekday like today?

Yes. Players have a compulsory 2 days off every week from training/playing, what they do in that time is their choice. Essendon's was Wednesday last I heard.

Oh alright mad. Just saw Jacko Merrett at the gym, looking like he's bulked up a bit
