NN to GWS confirmed
My missus sent me a panicked text a few days ago sayinv what's this about NN going to Sydney. Someone was running with it on facebook. I put her mind at ease but stranger things have happened and Sydney love a big name.

That article in the 'West' about Freo are "well-placed to deliver the knockout blow in the trade for Kelly"
wasn't very convincing...?

With NN taking a 400k pay cut maybe ..

Which is highly likely. The guy has made an amazing amount of money to date and would have opportunities beyond football with the club & the AFL. He comes across top bloke and with an old school, team first attitude. From the outside looking in, he seems to be the very definition of a team player that would make a personal sacrifice for the betterment of the team.

Can we convince both Kelly and Cogs to join? Would be a coup!

We'd probably have to lose some depth players (the Masto, Schoey types who can be replaced @ ~$100-200k cheaper with rookies)

If we offered NN 300k a year + his reported 350k for being an afl ambassador that is still 650k a very good .

Nic has received 4million over the last 4 season for a total of 40/100 games if he plays every game for the rest of the year .

3 years seems like its more for his marketing to stay in the team rather than playing time IMO

On top of that is marketing $$. Those real estate adds he's been doing don't come for free.

$300k in the cap.

$350k as AFL ambassador.

$300k marketing.

Still gets his $1m a year.

Stuff Kelly, Nic just went and dropped off to Cogs his draft contract. Get Cogs as a FA. GWS get a pick in the last teens.

We then do a deal with GWS to land their two later 1sts (2019 and the Cogs compo pick) for a 2020 future 1st and both our 2019 2nd and the Swans 2nd.

They also do a similar deal with the Essendon pick they have. After paying for Green we trade to them our 1st in 2019 for their 1st in 2020.

They pay for Green with later picks and then reenter the 1st round after sorting Green out.

With NN, I suspect there is a longer term commercial deal in place for the academy. Hell, the academy is named after him. Surely a 15 year post playing ambassador contract of $300k is worth something that could also be added to his marketing retainer. He is the face of the academy and for a $4.5 mln deal (15 x $300k), he is set for life especially when you think of marketing $$ he can get from the club and Uber Eats.

I expect that the NN deal will not be disclosed publicly. I also think he will see what the next 15 years will look like as the face of west Coast.

How great would it be to be able to say goodbye to Karl on match day and say hello Nic!

I dont get the hate for Karl - he does his job well enough. And he is still an Eagles premiership player. Not convinced Nic would be a better match day MC

Is Cogs and Kelly at all realistic re: cap space?

All about TPP going forward.

If you assume $1m x 6 years for Coniglio and $750k x 6 years for Kelly then that is $10.5m over the period 2020-2025.

Players turning 30 in each year:

Currently: JK, Hurn, Jetta, Masten, Schofield
2020: Redden, Shuey, Naitanui
2021: Hickey, Vardy, Hutchings, Sheppard
2022: McGovern, Cripps, Darling, Gaff
2023: Yeo
2024: Smith
2025: Rioli, Barrass, Sheed

You would assume that by the 2023-25 period that at least half of those players are gone. The guys we have that are already over 30 probably have one more year at most. The TV rights deal is 2017-2022 so it's possible the salary cap goes up from 2023 also...

Can we move any of those onto rookie list as they age?

Think we could do it with some smart cap moves. Only problem will be finding trade currency for both. GWS will match any reasonable offer for Cogs you’d think and Kelly obviously still needs to be traded for as well. I’d be on board trading as many picks as possible over the next 2 years for those two. Kelly Cogs and Yeo is Kerr Cousins Judd territory. Allows Shuey to move into that vacant-ish HHF role.

Agreed Karl does a fine job, however imagine Naitanui hyping the crowd! He’d bring so much energy, energy not seen since Slim Jim would shout “Whooooooo wants a DVD player!”

Everyone has their day, Slim Jim has to go and Karl has an expiry too.

Possibly. Remember that rookies play and there is no cap on what you pay them so it only gives the club picks earlier in the draft.

Hurn and JK are contracted for 2020 - so no.
Jetta is a possible - he has not been staying on the field with the soft tissue issues and I can see a role for him as the indigenous leader at the club so would happily go with a delist and pick up as a rookie game. Not sure any other club would go for him.
Schofield will likely be depth come 2020. He appears to be happily settled in Perth and loyal at the club and set for a role in Gary Stocks coms team when he hangs up the boots

Now the big question is Masten. I will leave that unsaid whether he (a) gets another contract before season's end, (b) gets to go as a rookie and is seen as depth or (c) gets to go back to East Fremantle as they look to rebuild.

NicNats Girl friend is Melbourne based singer , Nic needs to try and get his footy career back for the next few seasons though and WCE are his very best option you would think .

Eagles seemingly getting work done early, second re-signing story of the day.

I suspect all the activity indicates we're getting our ducks in a row so that we can start making concrete offers to players we're chasing.

And fair play, you don't just pry a CEY out of their club for nothing.
