Neat-o, good to hear.

If IQ was borderline first round, we’ll probably be ok for his brothers in future, ww can always hide them a little to ensure they aren’t early firsts.
IQ was pick 13? That’s not really borderline lol

Let’s face it we aren’t getting McDonald. We don’t have the trade value and pieces required to move that far up especially given the teams around that mark who also are dying for a gun KPF.

Exactly, and plenty of other clubs with smart list managers take a good tall when they can.

Not waiting for the scraps around the league.

Doubt he go on Rookie List but we don't give up anything for him except List Spot and Salary which you think would not be Huge
His career is hanging by a thread Dave. Rookie list might be his only option.

Guess IF he does not get any offers from other Clubs.

His Best is Easily Good Enough
Problem is we haven’t seen his best for a long time. Freo have basically let him walk without even attempting to get value for him. Don’t be surprised if nobody grabs him and his career is done tbh.

Report that he’s nominated us as his preferred destination.
Bloody great news! Get on the phone to he and Longmuir, due diligence needs to be done, but that should be a no-brainer if he’s willing to put the work in. Who would you rather have on a list, McCarthy or an inanimate carbon rod (of whom we have a few)?

I reckon that article reeked of desperation. He’s in AFL limbo atm and he’ll say just about anything to get onto a list. But at the end of the day, it’s going to come down to attitude. Does he have it in him to change and get back to where he was once at? Going to be hard to do imo.

Acquiring McCarthy or Hogan is about as risky as taking on Mitch Clarke would’ve been. And will likely prove to be as fruitful

The risk is even bigger when you consider the smaller list sizes next year
You’re saying that picking up McCarthy has the same risk as trading for Hogan on likely big money. Mitch Clarke cost the Demons pick 12 and $600kpa, and cost Geelong Travis Varcoe. Care to reconsider?

Bizarre to be reading we should be targeting Riccardi.
Fell into our lap, we gift wrapped him to GWS as a present for them beating us in the prelim.

Need to get someone else now.

Yep.

I get the vibe we were keen last year but tried to be too cute with our shuffling of picks and thought no one would take him.

Unfortunately that ship has sailed now. No way Gws will let him go now.

Yep. Sort of feels like he’s looked at the league, decided which team is the most desperate for a tall forward and said “I want to go there!”

Honestly the only way I’d be comfortable with the club taking him is if he trained with us over the summer and we considered him as a supplementary rookie selection.

I am not huge on McCarthy. But I don’t mind it simply due to the fact I’m over continuing to have Dunn, Broomhead, Lynch and Tohill on the list. We constantly rerookie and get nothing while Richmond constantly get Pickett, Stack, Arts etc

If McCarthy comes in at the expense of the above 4, the upside is much higher and we lose literally nothing.

If he plays up and acts like a fool just boot him out back to WA. Last chances sometimes can do wonders, and unlike Bennell his body isn’t cactus.

DFA or not, the point is not the cost of Cam McCarthy... the point is the odds on likely result. And as I said, with smaller list sizes the risk being taken only increases.

We have enough injury prone and debilitated players on our list without actively recruiting another in the hope, despite the evidence on him, that he finally comes good

It’s all between the ears for McCarthy.
Nobody has ever questioned his talent.

It’s his application to training and the rigours of AFL Football. Now nothing against Fremantle, but I feel like we possess some of the best footballers in the game when it comes to training and preparing for AFL Football (Pendlebury, Grundy, Crisp, Maynard etc)
I also think Bucks culture is fantastic and he’ll know quickly whether McCarthy is buying in.

Super low risk, super high reward.

I’ve been in the move Moore forward camp, but after watching Carlton game.. geeze Moore is good down there...

Cloning him is the only solution. What's that guy who cloned Dolly the sheep up to these days? ;)

If Sier has the rumoured lax in committtment in him , i doubt we can hone McCarthy
