I wouldn't at all be surprised if a lot of players in the 24-25 age bracket who are coming out of contract this year opted for 2 year deals heading into RFA.

There's not likely going to be as much TPP pie to divvy up for the next couple of years as the AFL and clubs continue to rationalise football operations, but coming out of that there will be a clearer picture of where finances stand in the AFL and perhaps more scope for clubs and players to work on bigger money / longer term deals.

It's a risk for players like Moore and DeGoey obviously, but I just can't see any clubs throwing wads of cash at long term deals to keep (or lure players) away given the period of uncertainty they are all going to be operating within over the next couple of years while everything shakes itself out.

I thought Rising Star Nominees are based on the performance of the round not a number of rounds??
It’s based on the round at the start of the year (as it has to be), but towards the end it tends to be based more on a body of work.

Thanks, I believe Lachie played a slightly better game than IQ last weekend but def think IQ has had a very good year and is developing into a great running defender.

Are there any cheap decent key defenders available? We’ve got an aging roughhead and keane. So the cupboards looking bare
Callow will likely be available until around 30, which would be easy enough to trade back in for after a Reef bid. The rest of the KPD prospects are rather undersized if they're not in top 20 contention.

However I think it's likely you guys pick a KPD with your first as it stands

Chances of Granger-Barass?

If you traded up maybe, but at a pick past 10 it'd be very low. DGB could be taken by Hawks/Sydney realistically so I think of you're moving up that far already you may as well commit to get McDonald at 1, but that's cost a lot

I really hope the club doesn’t draft a key defender with a 1st rd pick. Moore will own half back for some time, and we have Kelly who might still be better suited in defence... and if retained we have Keane developing... even Tohill or Lynch could potentially be developed into a KPD if retained.

Plus there are a number of quality, mature, cheap to acquire full backs who can come in and perform the role well like Dunn and Roughead have in recent years.

Very optimistic to think Keane, Tohill and Lynch are going to make the grade considering they've got 2 games between them, wouldn't be confident hanging my hat on it if a Reid or Cox are available

Unless we put Moore up Forward

I agree... optimistic with those names but they have attributes. And my 2nd paragraph about the availability of good cheap to bring in mature defenders still stands.

I thought Cox was more of a utility? Not a full back type given his frame.

I guess it's more about how you see the winning setup for a team. I personally don't think lockdown defenders are all the necessary, if you have smart defenders that can rebound/ intercept whilst not letting their opponents run wild that's much better in my books, and that's how I view Cox

What does the Rookie lists getting Smaller mean for Wilson and Tohill?

We don't know yet. Will be up in the air until the AFL formally announce list sizes, list make up, and TPP caps. Don't think they can go too hard this year because a lot of these players have contracts going into 2021 and even beyond.

Ah 9 years of Australian rules football in their life's means plenty of upside
