“On the scans there actually wasn’t a whole lot there after that injury but the inflammation and swelling in the knee is the thing that’s hung around.

“The swelling’s probably the thing that told us there is maybe something, whether it’s a little flap of cartilage that keeps annoying my knee whenever I try to run, which doesn’t take much to clean up in a surgery room, but it’s something that’s kept me pretty low [volume] in terms of my running.

“Overall I’m disappointed that I’m not going to be able to get back and play this year and help the guys hopefully get a couple of wins but I think we’ve made the right call.”

Brown said after a couple of unsuccessful attempts to build on his running, the decision to opt for surgery reduces the risk of a secondary injury.

The delusion continues on the Norf board - some of them seriously think that 2 x 1st rounders in exchange for Brown and a 2nd is a "reasonable" asking price.

If Norf are really burning one of their best club men and an all round good guy then they aren't getting much back in return in trade.

Fair call, i can see why people would be cautious after Beams. But they're two very different alarm bells for me. Beams we didn't need, and had a history of being unreliable with his mental state, that was a disaster waiting to happen. The romance of him returning was the only thing blinding people from that reality.
At the end of the day they can both lead down the same path and wind up chewing salary that is already tight. Again we cannot afford to **** this one up, otherwise it’s going to put us back even further.

Honestly, if he comes at a reasonable price, why the hell are we whinging about a bloke that kicked 60+ goals the past 3 years coming aboard? Who else are we going to land realistically with that potential? A decent crumber would be a must during tade period as well i would think.
I have no issue with Brown if he’s cheap. My beef was that the question marks on him made the trade price people were suggesting unreasonable.
If North have genuinely taken all contract offers off the table then they’ve no right to demand any extravagant trade price. As it stands, they’ve essentially delisted him, or as close to it as possible.
If his salary demands aren’t too extravagant, then welcome to Collingwood Ben.

Holy hell, of what’s in that article is true then North have really backed themselves in to a corner with his trade value.
You don’t get first round picks for a guy who you’ve taken a contract offer away from and told to look elsewhere. Legit, this has moved to token pick territory.
2nd rounder at best.

Totally agree, its a risk, as is any trade or draft situation. We could also go hell bent to aggressively pursue a top 5 pick to get McDonald, and have him turn out like a McCartin or a Watts.

End of the day, no one ever won a premiership by playing it safe.

unless there is a bidding war between teams for him (hope we dont bother if thats the case) they just plummeted his trade value

I reckon alot of people would piss and moan if we got a 22yo Tony Lockett that he was too fat

NOT when you'd seen him play.....trouble for everyone is we've seen BB play and we also know HOW CFC likes to play. The two don't mix.

This is why North don't want to play him: "Shaw believes Brown's lead-up play is not suited to his preferred game style, which in many ways mirrors that of his former club Sydney – slower, considered ball movement that prioritises contested possession."

So whats the solution according to his manager??? Plead with CFC to "Help out".

Sorry North, we're not here to buy your rejects and get you out of the fix you've got yourself in....

Hawks ruling themselves out of Brown is as concerning as anything IMO
Agreed.... sort of. I think the Hawks may have accepted the reality that they’re going to need to try to hit the draft. I’m not sure they can afford to be bringing in a 28 year old with their current list, regardless of their fitness etc.

Exactly. Weird move by Norf. Offer him bargain basement coin and take it or leave it. Doesn't sound like clubs will be lining up to make it a bidding war. I'm sure the appeal of being the focal point in weekly blockbusters as opposed to shit shows in Tassie and Canberra would appeal to him to take a haircut to come aboard (no pun intended).

had minor surgery on it earlier this months. Hopefully that fixed the issue.
Hopefully for him, but if there is any risk we can’t afford it. Look at Tom Langdon. If we can’t find the game changing key forward that we need, I suggest we look to improve our ball movement by foot. We have too many ball burners in the side. We need line breakers and skill to make the forwards look good. Any forward will look average in our team and with our method.

One thing we need to do is fix up the ball movement. No doubt.

Ok so what your ideal forward set up next year assuming we don't get Cameron?

Few blokes in here are hard to please. Got rocks in your head if you think getting Ben Brown is a bad move. Obviously we shouldn't be selling the farm and we'll be doing due diligence. If his knee is cooked he won't be coming unless it's for peanuts. Mihocek and Cox will not win us a premiership. People complaining about his age - he's younger than cox and 2 months older than Mihocek.

His age means in terms of miles on the clock....Cox has only been playing AFL 6 years Checkers is in his 3rd senior season.

I’m sure we would have a full medical prior to having any interest. All I’ve read is he’s having an arthroscopy which is minor in the scheme of things.
Tom Langdon’s surgery last year was an arthroscopy iirc....

North offered 3/750k earlier this year that he rejected wanted a longer term.

Maybe an extra year and less money gets it done - 4 x 650?

Yeah, let's base our recruiting on what the Hawks do in terms of recruiting....
Considering the amount of tall forwards the Hawks already have, plus obtaining Patton last trade period, why would they want Brown...
