We are not getting Butters and we are not getting Reid…It will blow up the club (which is nowhere near the window)…We haven’t even seen what our 2024 crop can do…A few of them will take more than a year, keep building from the draft…Then we’ll have money in the bank to keep them all, or trade for value…We’ll also have change to cherry pick a key forward, mobile Ruck etc. Just enjoy 2025 for now, no expectations…
Agree. We are two years of good drafting off even considering any money balling and trading picks for players.

richoatthedisco what exactly do you disagree with regarding my last post?

That we're a bottom side? We all know we are.
That we won't improve? Gee I hope not, because this board will be hell if our 7 R1 picks from 2024 don't come good.
That Butters wouldn't be at his peak in a few years time when we should be climbing back up the ladder?
That there is no indication that either Butters or Reid want to come back to Victoria?

We got two for Shai bolton. People on here wanted 3 firsts. Yet butters is only worth 1!

Butters is worth a top-5 pick plus another pick inside-15 every day of the week. He’s in the best half a dozen mids in the comp, which is
damn hard to get with pick-1 let alone later picks. He’s 25yo end of 2025 so on the outer
limits of the age profile I’d be willing to trade for given the stage of our build, but teams would happily part with a top-5 pick plus another first rounder for Butters.

If Reid is on the market and doesn’t dismiss Richmond, we will be moving heaven and earth to get him. You honestly think we’d not be in that race? Would we be happy to get 1 x player of Harley Reid’s quality from Lalor and Smillie? It’s a resounding yes, so immediately our 2 x firsts (let’s say pick 1 and pick 7) would be on the table, and I’d be all for it.

It’s almost zero chance of happening, but Lalor, Smillie and Reid could be the comp’s best midfield for a decade.

We would have to be right in the running for Reid if he is leaving the Eagles. We have the cap space and the perfect draft hand to afford him. Very few clubs would come anywhere near what we could offer both player & club. Bombers could possibly by offering 4 x rd 1 picks(2x 2025, 1 x 2026, 1 x 2027.) Or possibly their 2 x rd 1 + 2 x rd 2 picks in 2025. But it could very easily be a race in two. Even if we were second favourites in the race, it would be better than almost zero chance.

The Bombers have only drafted about 5 or 6 potentially significant players at best over the last 8 drafts from 2017, including basically none who look like being up with the best players in the AFL. So Reid may not fancy their chances of doing well, especially if they wipe out a lot of draft capital obtaining him. They have also spent big on Free Agents already, getting McKay & Gresham. Our FA powder is dry and we could likely snare better players than those.

Lots to play out there. It shouldn't trouble us if we don't get him because he looks like being a very costly item in any club's shopping cart. But you might only get one chance to grab a player that good in any decade, so if we are in the mix for him we would probably be compelled to have a decent crack.

I agree with your timing, but if you weren't quite ready to get married and a perfect woman wants to marry you only if you act now, you might make an exception.
Different when there are 18 women already in my best 22 women and I am adding only one more woman and trading away potentially two younger women who may in totality be more perfect for me than the woman I am trading for.

Need the Bombers to show little to no signs this year, hopefully going the opposite way/down the ladder. You take a guy like Reid for 2 firsts. Unfortunately future trading of picks will be extended to two years in advance, so anyone that can afford to pay his salary will be after him

Very very good response. Well thought through and sated in a way that insinuates that you do have 18 close to perfect women lined up for your ... delectation.

When I said ‘zero chance of happening’ i more meant leaving Eagles … and if he does then choosing us. I’d say leaving Eagles in next few seasons is a 10% chance, and choosing us 20% … so overall a 1 in 50 shot of Reid coming to Richmond.

But if he does say he’s open to a trade it’s crazy to think we’d not be all over it.
