Kiddy Coleman played on Bobby Hill in that Grand Final. Now Coleman, that is one of the most overrated palyers in the league. It was like playing Short on Hill. One got lots of touches and the other got lots of goals.

Hill was on a mixture of opponents. The player he was on most in these highlights was clearly Starcevich. If Grimes was on Hill in that GF Hill wouldn't have touched it.

How about nobody this year and just take kids

TDK - St Kilda have a massive offer for him and been doing the work the last 18 months
i dont get alot of mail but i did get this from an extremely reliable source and posted it on the StKilda board a month ago

Nothing stopping us from getting a free agent and still hitting the draft. Losing the top quarter of our salary cap in one off season will have implications long term.

Pass on Butters. Why give up 2 firsts for him when we could have drafted Jagga Smith who is similar, or when we get Jack Leys as a father son in 2026 who is anothsr of these high possession hybrid midfield accumulators and is looking like a likeyly first rounder.

No on Butters.
Butters is a star. Who said you would have to give 2 first rounders for him?

This is a good question. If Port were looking at a mid to late first as FA comp for him then 1 x early rd 1 pick - say top 5 might really appeal. To go beyond a single top 5 pick you are normally talking about a Chris Judd or Harley Reid level player. Butters is a terrific player, but not at that level.

He not a free agent is he?

I’d gladly handover a top 5 pick for Butters. Proven star v talented kid.

He is contracted for next year. Port will demand both first rounders. And they have every right to.

They won't take a single top 5 pick for him. They'll want more back.

Likely no other club bar us can hand over 2 x top 5 picks for any player, simply because they won't have access to those picks. So Port's realistic choices are:

A) keep Butters, paying through the nostrils to match free agency offers

B) lose him as a free agent in 2026, gaining exactly 1 rd 1 pick after their own natural pick, likely par expectation, about pick 12-14 by draft night

C) trade him in 2025 for something better than B). If they could get say pick 3 outright, that is appreciably better than B). If they demand 2 x top 5 picks they will end up with either A) or B) above. It is possible they might get a club pay a top 5 pick plus a bit more, but if they get 2 x top 5 picks outright, the only precedent to anything like that I can think of is Judd. Butters is not at that level at the same sort of age.

I agree but if he leaves as free agent the following year they may only get a pick outside the top 5 or 6.

If Butters was to be traded the price IMO would be an early first and either a late first/early second or a good mid level player.

Where is the Butters noise coming from? Pretty sure he won’t leave Port, he loves it there
There is no Butters noise. I made mentioned that he’s the type of midfielder we need and it just blossomed. We have no connection to Butters that I’m aware of.

Not from us as far as I know. Think it's because his name got floated by someone and the discussion grew from there.
