We'd only have Moloney for 2-3 years at most, to give the last 4 or 5 in that list some time to fully develop and mature.

But what's the point - I don't understand.

Moloney will be a an instrumental mid fielder in year one, a depth player in year two and three and a list clogger after that!!!

So whats wrong with getting a instrumental midfielder for free? Especially when we have plenty of list cloggers, that hopefully will be cleared!

Because we are trying to move on our current group of list cloggers - And then we recruit another one.

Just because we have 20 midfielders on our list, it doesn't mean that they will all be good players and will play AFL footy. The kids can get game time in the seconds and pressure the senior guys for games.

So I repeat. What's wrong with getting an instrumental player?

Why can't we do that and move on: slattery, Dyson and Lonergan who have been on our list for nearly 10 years and proven NOTHING?

If Brent Moloney is a list clogger, there's at least 5 list cloggers who won medals today at the MCG.

Can you name the list cloggers

Daresay 2 or 3 would play well at EFC.

I forgot the motto

Free=good.

Free = good, it's value for money.

I am sorry If I can't look at the current list and Can't see a plethora of midfield talent that can play the footy moloney can.

We have one player capable of top 10 Brownlow finish, why not get another one that is capable?

After seeing the way Melbourne have treated their long term servants, I can see why Moloney might have been jaded this year, and obviously neeld has different ideas.

Deserved to be named captain in march this year and they gave it to two undeserving candidates. Maybe it could be hard to get motivated for that club.

Bomber loves him, and I reckon he might have more of a clue than you and I just quietly!

That's exactly the point.

Most players, probably 85%, are only ever going to be as good as the team they're in. But in a good side they'll be very, very important.

Moloney is a far better player than premiership player Mitch Morton. He's better than dual premiership player Lewis Roberts-Thomson. He's better than premiership player Mike Pyke. I rate Nick Smith very highly, but Moloney is far better. Likewise Craig Bird.

I could probably keep going, but the point is made.

If Teddy Richards played for us you'd want to trade him because he's old and not a superstar. He won't be protected by the second and third man up and would have got mauled in the second half of year.

Mattner is close to the end so he'd be a list clogger too.

LRT would be considered a list clogger at EFC.

Then you forget about guys like Jesse White, Jared Moore, Tom Walsh, Seaby, Meredith, Everitt , Armstrong, Trent Dennis Lane.

So many list cloggers in their 40.. it's a minor miracle they won the flag.

Talent is overrated.

Systems win flags.

No doubt there are many of Geelong's triple-premiership "superstars" who would have a very different tale to tell were they at a club that wasn't run as well.

Sydney's system is designed to keep them competitive without rebuilding. While that'll never afford them a true dynasty, when a season comes along that is "open" so to speak without any one side dominating, then they can capitalise. I suspect more clubs will be trying this approach in future.

Hardingham should play as a defensive forward imo, almost as a decoy... take his opponent deep in the fwd 50 and he will out mark them every time. Let him play there and chip in with 2-3 goals each game

So essentially what you're saying is that we should take a back pocket, play him as a decoy forward, and let him win the Coleman.

Nick Smith is a small defender but I get your point.

o_O What has become of this thread???
This.

Heard a rumour that Moloney was at Windy Hill the other day. Hard to get excited over it when the big news is about a certain fantastic BJ though.

Mind out of the gutter fellas, I'm talking about Goddard.

i dont want moloney if his inclusion means myers, melksham, Heppell abd zaka spend less time in the middle, thyre the guys who our premiership hope lay with in the future. Im fine with BJ, but not Moloney

Moloney is a tremendous player and just what our midfield needs. Grunt. He also adds a level of competition between Hocking, Howlett and the other inside mids who will be fighting it out for a spot in the middle.

Yeah but more competition for positions may mean they may attain a higher level more quickly. If they spend less time in mid maybe they're not deserving.

Exactly! I think more players need that put on them..

Get them fighting for their spots. If they perform week in and week out, good they keep it... but if they keep dishing up rubbish then "There is the door".

Jetta is a classic example of this... He starts off so well and then dies off.. Funnily enough, he is always performing solidly come contract time... When he gets that contract, he tapers off.. He always seems to keep his spot though and it is bloody frustrating.
