Seems as though it's a race between BL and PA now for Moloney... We weren't mentioned in possible homes for him in the papers this morning... Who do we chase now?

I have to say Geelong is looming as a frightening prospect.

Based on the dog shit of a grand final that was dished up by the best 2 sides this year a Geelong plus McIntosh, Caddy and Rivers (in addition to the VFL youngsters) and a Collingwood with an uninterrupted season and fewer injuries will run riot.

Not to mention an Essendon side with a more successful run with injuries with their Brownlow Medallist captain & potential new recruit in Goddard. Zaharakis & Winderlich will be like new recruits for us next year... oh and the probable debut of Joe Daniher.

They could surprise...

plus the return of ever dangerous Varcoe. They have probably done better acquiring good young talent without dropping down the ladder than any premier as far I can remember.

Really?
Geelongs stars are ageing, Scarlett is better than Rivers, McIntosh can't get on the park and Caddy has done nothing.

@AFLRumours: #Essendon considering a play for #pafc Ben Jacobs. Monfries could be involved and Port keep their compensation pick for Chaplin. #AFLTrades

Does anyone know much about this kid? All I know is that he was PA's first round draft pick in 2010 pick 16 overall.

Varcoe, Selwood, Hawkins, Smedts, Menzel, Duncan, Christenson, Hunt, Motlop, Vardy, Gutherie is a pretty damn good group of players under 25 with experience, plus a couple of others in Horlin-Smith and Kersten are very good looking prospects outside the team. They aren't going away yet.

Rivers will be an excellent third tall defender where he can slot in to a side with such a solid defence. Looms as a great replacement for the structural contribution of Scarlett.

Assume McIntosh gets onto the park.

Caddy can obviously play it is just a question of identifying his limits. Who better than Geelong to get the best out of Caddy?

The rest of the side (except maybe Corey) could still deliver next year.

I'm weary of Collingwood with the acquisition of Lynch.. Cloke and Lynch pose a potent fowardline, but hey, it's nothing Hurley can't handle at CHB!

Always interested in getting guys who were taken high in the draft. It has to stand as an indicator of the potential that a player has.

Jacobs' development may not have progressed as Port would have liked but in these circumstances you'd have to ask the question of Port. Port has been woefully under resourced and hardly provided a culture that would get the best out of its players (for a start).

Quantifying the development of young players is obviously an extremely difficult task.

I think Adelaide provides the yard stick for the potential to develop young players physically. The size and athleticism of their young players is almost frightening. Even David McKay, who started out as a stick figure, is now a midfield beast.

Collingwood (pre-Buckley), Hawthorn and Sydney seem to be the best at defining roles for young players within in their overall systems.

The point, in a very round about and lazy way, is that unless Jacobs failed physically in the Adelaide system or not been able to play a defined role for Collingwood, Hawthorn or Sydney I'd look at him as the number 16 pick and worry about developing him properly.

Don't watch much underage footy, but he looked like a great prospect around draft time, highest possession getter in the champs IIRC, half back with good disposal who can play midfield, probably my favorite player comparison which I overuse, but think Enright. Apparently had glandular fever which effected his preseason. Good prospect for mine and would be very happy for this to happen. Could practically get him for free (Monfries) if Port are good blokes about it.

I tell you what Macca, you give me a sustained first half of this year with the added benefit of increased experience of Zaharakis, Melksham and Heppell and no more injuries to Myers plus Goddard and I'll give you a guaranteed top 4 spot.

Wouldn't mind Garlett, especially with jetta being moved on and the ageing alwyn davey.

The papers seem to think they already have Pederson from North.

I don't want them to get either player because it will certainly solve the structural issues they've had with the third forward/second ruck.
