We do know that the Pears/Parker trade originated with a speculative tweet from Emma Qualye, right? She was being a fan, not a journalist when she made it, it's gone from there. Emma is great, probably the best going around, but in no way was this intended to be used as news or inside info.

There is also the slight, very slight, issue that Adelaide don't need the extra KPD.

They need a forward.

Rumours again.. but apparently Monfries has signed under FA, ala we won't get a trade for it. Gonna be quite disappointed if we lose Monfries to FA rather than through trade... just feel like our compensation will be substantially diluted if it were the case, so I hope that rumour's wrong.

He may have agreed to sign. But the afl have been very transparent as to signings sofar, and nothing has been reported. So he may intend to sign, but port haven't lodged the paper work with the afl as of yet.

Edit: since when is 'substantially diluted' another term for 'shit all'?

The only way I can conceive us getting any compo is if we lose monfries, AND slatts and dyson sign elsewhere.
And in that case it MIGHT only be band 5

there will be no "compensation" at all if he has

well if we go from getting anything in a trade to nothing in compo from FA then that's fair to say a 'substantial dilution' haha but the only reason I can think of Port taking Gus under FA is if they don't want to lose any players (rather than draft picks) but seeing as Jacobs nominated to leave I hope it gets done early tomorrow.

Also who were these other TWO mysterious players we were linked to?!?

I can't see why Port would sign Monfries under FA, to be honest.

And I can't see why Essendon wouldn't be happy to facilitate a trade.

Unless it's due to AFL intervention, I can only see this ending in a trade.
Agree 100%...
I think if there is no suitable player offered a swap of second and third round picks would get it done..
From what i read about the draft the top 30 players are all quality...
Would be keen to upgrade from about 32 to 28 if that is the case.....
Can anyone confirm that Tim Watson said Gus has agreed to terms?

is 32 > 28 really that big a deal?
That's what i first thought, but then I have heard people who know this crop very well say the top 30 this year are all quality...So 28 could be a big improvement on 32....It's only 4 places sure, but as it is we could lose Gus for nothing, so we would consider a trade like that....I hope we get Jacobs...

It's better than not.

If we were adding in a pick, sure lets do it, what makes a 4 pick upgrade a priority?

Anybody think one of the American guys is going to get picked up? (Not necessarily by us)

Wallace seems to be the one they keep talking about...

I wouldn't say it is a priority, just an option.....Anything is better than losing Gus for nothing because we pinched Goddard....I'm sure Hirdy will be at his persuasive best this week......But he won't just concede and let Gus walk for nothing...that's for sure...

Just listened to an interview with him... He spoke very well.

Refused to pick a team he'd like to play for but said his College teams bball colours were Red and Black.. That's all I need to hear.

I'm sure there are other things higher on the agenda, but it should be at least on the 'to do' list. For someone earning a salary they should be able to facilitate this trade that clearly gives a benefit to EFC. I have an expectation that it will get done. Any professional organisation IMO has an obligation to do everything that it can to improve its position (however small).

The other point with this, is that it costs NOTHING. With the AFL giving out draft picks, increased salary caps, mini-drafts, compensation picks you have to take EVERY advantage that you can. It would be remiss not to, and smacks of the arrogant lazy attitude that saw us slip into mediocrity for the last 10 years.

So I mentioned the other day that Adelaide were after hooker but it's actually Pears.. got your defenders mixed up. Oops
Not sure weather fans will like this more or less.

Reported today in The Adverstiser that Gus to Port will be via trade, and that we are prepared to do so in return for only a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I almost spat my cereal out over the paper when I read that.

Sure, it's better than losing him to FA for nothing but FFS Dons, try and get something sorta reasonably somewhat close-ish to his worth on the trade table.

The only source I can quote is the paper, so likely call here is "Bullshit", but you never know, this dude may have his sources and they may be accurate (or not)

I have no issue with that trade.

The way FA is structured, we wouldn't get anything for Monfries if we lost him via that, because we got a better player in Goddard.

So the way of thinking of it is:

Lose: Monfries
Win: Goddard, pick 40-50

Then you consider our recent history of picks in that range:

O'Brien, Browne

And I'm fine with it/
