No heart in it, just realistic for a guy who’s potentially one of the best tall forwards in the league.
And it's a reasonable offer for a guy who has played 11 games in two years. We get our two firsts (9/12 & 18) and Sydney get there man. GWS also get points/picks for a likely early bid on Green.

Nowhere near reasonable. You also gave away a 2020 2nd. That could quite easily work out a points loss on just keeping danhier another year and taking the compo pick.

25 for a guy you don’t want? Very unlikely

You guys have 37 which would get it done.

Maybe even your 52 or 65 if it's late in the trade period and we don't have to carry any of his salary. JJ isn't a long term replacement for Daniher, but he would be a decent stopgap for a couple of years while you develop / recruit one. Can pinch hit in the ruck, too.

Unless we get something brilliant from GWS, or it seriously inflates the value of our return, I hate this talk about helping GWS keep a high pick and get Green.

They get enough academy benefit. Why help them get more?

It’s a bad proposal as well because GWS as well would make out like bandits.

because it will help us get the picks we want somewhat for Joe and the Green bit will be matched no matter what

Plenty of people talking up Bonar (hehe) but is he any good? Might dominate NEAFL but tbh I could put on a pair of boots and probably rack up 30 touches.

He's a hard one to judge. Had 2 (iirc) knee reconstuctions in his junior days which saw him slip down the draft rankings. Has been played forward more through neccesity for GWS than as the natural midfielder he once was.

Could always swap around the second pick to GWS for one of our second rounders (31/37) and that pick 25 come to us.
Why even involve GWS? You’re just proposing 5 & 25 for Joe plus they also get a second rounder. Swans would be laughing with glee at that.

I don't want McCartin, he's 193cm so not a like for like Joey replacement and also not a sure thing.

Rather 5 and 9 over Tom.

Lloyd was only 192cm. Id take Lloyd over Joey. All that matters if he can play and yeah there are question marks but there are question marks over the players u draft as well. At least he is a key forward. Unless we think there is someone better we can get next year.

Yeah 52 may get it done. Decent stopgap is exactly what he’d be.

I've started to take the heart out of seeing the trade for what it is and the hypothetical's become clearer.

And it's a reasonable offer for a guy who has played 11 games in two years. We get our two firsts (9/12 & 18) and Sydney get there man. GWS also get points/picks for a likely early bid on Green.

First of all, the man didn't play 11 games in two years because he was dropped, shit, or couldn't break into the best 22. It was an injury, and whilst injuries aren't always the best - they can happen to any player. He also had his best year just before the injury - so it wasn't as if he was fading out before it. Had averaged 21 games a season prior to that injury, thereby attesting his ability to stay on the park when right. He has plenty of football left in him and his trajectory can only go skyward as a result of the talent he's already shown.

Second of all, you claim we've got heart, this and that, blinding us.

Yet what about Sydney? Offering 1 mill a year on a 4 year contract?

I'm sorry, but that's heart too. There's no "hypothetical" here, because if that was the case, Sydney would toe your line of thought and wouldn't be offering him what they're offering and wouldn't have had their meddling asses next to Joe's ear in Sydney with such eagerness to attain him.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Hypothetical of course;

Sydney out: Pick 5, Pick 25
Sydney In: Joe Daniher, 2020 second rounder

Essendon out: Joe Daniher, 2020 second rounder
Essendon in: Pick 12, Pick 18

GWS out: Pick 12, Pick 18
GWS in: Pick 5, Pick 25

Obviously rates Joe at roughly pick 3 or two mid - high first round picks but some people don't want Essendon to recieve this. Gives GWS the points/picks to match academy prospect Tom Greene bid early whilst Sydney get there man and are able to keep the likely pick 9 they recieve from the Tom Papley deal. The 2020 second rounder is the sweetener that gives Sydney points for the two high end academy kids they have coming through next year.

I dunno, was just playing around with the picks etc after Pure_Ownage suggested the Giants would want an early pick for a likely Green bid. Perhaps pick 9 instead of pick 12 coming to us but it was something to think about and a very real possibility.
Our 2nd next year would fall somewhere between 25 and 30. Points value 700. 12 + 18 valued at 2250. That values Joe at pick 8. 2020 compo pick would fall somewhere between 5 and 10. Your scenario is essentially helping Sydney and GWS at the expense of your own club.

Teams lose…

Essendon - Joe, Raz, 31, 37
Swans - Papley, 5, 25
Blues - 9
Port - 10, 29, SPP
Lions - 16, future 1st
GWS - 18

Teams gain…

Essendon - 5,10,16, SPP
Swans - Joe, 37, lions future 1st
Blues - Papley
Port - Fantasia, 18
Lions - 9, 31
GWS - 25, 29 (+424 points or Greene bid)

Who is upset/happy here? Rip it to shreds or massage it to be fairer.

Over the moon with that
