Our best chance of getting a player is a) for that player to simply be Daniher or b) To now use the next 12 months to talk to other players about being the Daniher replacement - rather than simply rushing around trying to find the best available player anywhere that's happy to come to us on 3 days notice.
That's why I think you'll see Essendon decline offers that neutrals might think is fair.

Certainly a valid argument, we did the same thing with Gibbs in 2016 and copped a lot of crap for holding onto him.

We felt he was far more valuable to us given our situation at the time, than trading him for pick 13 & a 3rd rounder that Adelaide were offering. A lot of neutral fans seemed to think we should have done the trade. Although he had 2 years to go on his contract and in that case, we were able to trade him for an even better deal the following year, rather than having to accept FA compo.

Although it wouldn't be 3 days notice rush, Essendon would have been into players all year (like every club) and this Daniher to Sydney thing has also been going on for a few months now, ample time for Essendon to lure a player(s). Though maybe none available are the right fit to replace Daniher.

If Rupert Wills is a straight up inclusion in our side, we may as forfeit next season.
Bloke is the epitome of a VFL player.
Cannot believe anyone wants Phillips! Unless we trading whipping boys?
Phillips? Why wouldn't we want a two way running outside mid with good skills? Averaged 24 touches over the past 3 years.

Presume you've got your Phillips' confused.

The one from Carlton could be whipping boy but I've got him in the "at least he's not Z Clarke" pile

The one from Collingwood is a reasonable player, Zaka upgrade but not sure he's what we need.

Tom Phillips

kicking efficiency - 55%, below average
overall efficiency 64.3% - below average
clangers - 2.7 per game
effective disposals - 15.3 - average

we are talking an outside runner here, 16.6 of his 24 possessions are uncontested, shouldn't be butchering the ball from that role.

Everyone is against SPP who butchers it from the coal face, I maintain he'd become a whipping boy in no time

Ive watched him close (hes in my keeper league side :p)

just my opinion, great link player, huge runner, poor user.

Thus showing how useless those stats are.

you are huge for using numbers when they suit your argument!

now they don't, they are useless...

anyhow, ill stand by my appraisal, just opinions anyway -
I've always said that Disposal Efficiency and Kicking Efficiency are too subjective. For example, any kick that goes 40+ metres and isn't a direct turnover is counted as "effective" but any kick that hits the ground going less than 40 metres is automatically the opposite. Any handpass that hits the ground is counted as ineffective.
I don’t think it’s official yet but it’s been mentioned in the makeup of the list thread and probably some other spots
Ah okay. I thought it was official
Almost as useless as hit outs to advantage.
Whats your issue with h/o to advantage?

As an inside player I agree that DE% and KE% aren't the most relevant metrics; as an outside player they're significantly more important.

If you're burning uncontested possessions on kicks under 40m to grass, or missing targets by hand then you're not really adding much as a link player.

So Lloyd says Essendon aren’t interested in the 1st and 2nd round picks offered for JD.

Why would Essendon accept that when they’d be guaranteed a 1st round pick next year if he were to walk?

Surely it’s not our reputation for being difficult at trade time that’s being solidified here. That’s an unders offer for a contracted All Australian. F the injury concerns, if they were that concerned they wouldn’t be wanting him.
