Yeah they don't need him but I think he'd be a good addition to their defence for at least a year, maybe two. He's from WA so that might help things. I really think the only benefit for us would be freeing up the cap space.
They have the best defence in the AFL this year

They don't need Hooker i don't think. If they liked Guelfi I'd be keen on Blakely. Had a period of 10 or so games a few years back as a genuine inside mid and blossomed, hasn't had a real turn inside for a while now
Played inside in the games he's managed this year. Good hustle but his kicking was terrible even by Essendon midfield standards.

He should be gettable though given Cerra, Brayshaw, Tucker and now Serong have gone past him.

Blakely has two tricks we need.

Fit, he's a great natural endurance runner and has a big engine. He's also big, if not a midfield beast, and aggressive.

Kicking is stodgy. Probably Heppell quality.

He'd be Clarke who is an AFL standard kick.

I doubt we cut into the best 22 to the extent we could convince him to come over. On one view he's just waiting out Mundy.

One thing I notice when looking at Blakely and Tucker is how few minutes they play. Blakely in particular hasn't had a game this year where he has played more that 65% TOG.

Are they a bit lacking in either pace or endurance where Longmuir needs to manage them to get the most out of them?

Or with 16 minute quarters some players get shorter rotations.

The story now seems to be that list cuts will be brought in gradually, which makes sense really.

I wish they'd come out and say what will be what though, as far as cap, list reductions, minimum number of draftees this year or whatever else they might change. It is becoming ridiculous, re-signings of key players should've been done long ago so they can focus on recruiting, drafting and re-signing/delisting fringe players. Trying to do more than ever in a shorter amount of time with less staff doesn't sound conducive to great decision making.

It makes zero sense for me. Surely a hard cut then gradually bringing it back makes more sense? Or cut it to a point that's sustainable for a few years then gradually bring it back?

Well the whole point of it is to reduce the amount spent on salaries isn't it? Most clubs would have their cap tied up with mid-tier players that are contracted for 2021 or 2022. You can sack a contracted player but you still have to pay their salary unless another club picks them up and pays them at least as much as you were going to, so you don't actually save any money.

It’s hard when some teams have a lot of players in contract.
Pretty much every club had 15+ players OOC when the freeze started.

Again, most clubs had 15+ OOC players during the freeze. A hard cut to 38 made the most sense.

Which is surely why you'd just carve out amounts from every salary proportionate to a salary cap reduction perhaps also proportion to allow the bottom end to earn a living wage.

PA is a typical union. Completely ineffectual if not driven by the greed/corruption at the top. True thats hardly unique to behaviour of a union except to the extent of the direct betrayal of those they claim to represent.

We should be trading to get tucker, Vic boy who would be great in our midfield

Word on the Tigers Board is we are into Tucker with the view that Freo will be wanting or offering Pickett more than what we can afford to pay him.

Re: Brad Crouch
Really cant see the value in the player, He will be 27 with 8 years in the AFL system for just 90 games
He will be asking for 4-5 year deal on $700k plus and i would bet he wont play more than 60-70 games in this period as his soft tissue injuries will just get worse s he gets older. Hope you guys are not buying the 8 year old BMW thats out of warranty with 200k's on the clock

Pass on Crouch, would be way to expensive and not quite sure what more he adds to our current mids. Who would he replace from the following:
Shiel
Merrett
McGrath
Parish
Let's not get seduced by the fact he has a slightly bigger body, that doesn't necessarily make him our saviour.

You whinge about Gown's lack of professionalism regarding injuries yet want to bring in the least professional bloke in the AFL?
Because he played basketball?
