Apparently Sydney want him as well

Strange decision to go to Melbourne
Yeah Sydney make sense given they have a brokendown Naismith, a cooked Sinclair and then a bunch of kids.

Why are people laughing at this?

Brown is ****in panels better than injury prone Joe

Brown is a lead up forward we cant hit a lead to save our life

Daniher can fu** off.

Get us Ben Brown and we play finals for the next half decade :thumbsu:
Brown's 28 later this year.
Happy for Daniher to go. Don't want to see Brown come in.
And finals for the next half decade isn't what i want to see. Progress to a period of dominance. flags here and there are nice every 5-10 years.
20 years in the wilderness is quite the thirst that needs quenching. An ocean over an oasis.

Think the consensus is most of us would prefer the development of Jones and another high profile draft pick to be developed into a Lloyd/Lucas partnership than to get Brown in who'd only take up cap space...

at worst I'd prefer a Jack Gunston if he came cheaply as that stop gap forward to come in or a Jesse Hogan who'd have more years in the red and black if he applied himself correctly. Not sure about Cam McCarthy?

He simply cannot run both ways anywhere near expected level.
This was more out oof curiosity than leading to any sort of conversation starter but what set Tom Mitchell aside when he moved from Sydney?

He seemed like a bloke who simply hunted the ball and didn't care a great deal about defence.

Give me the best player available right now, which is Brown.

Just on Gunston, if he ever had coaching aspirations id get him in to look after the forward line, super smart player. Don't think id recruit him to play, but if we went full rebuild having him there as a mentor to the forwards for a year would be good.

I'd say on exposed results for the last 3 years, it's not.

That's an easy call to make.

Grab the best forward available in BB, keep Saad & we're golden :thumbsu:

Ignoring everything else, what kind of measuring system is 'panels'?
attachment.php

It depends. In the case of Brown you need to consider the width of the rear panel, please refer to the above.

He's still got a couple of years left in him but you are right, get him in as Ex Dons supporter, get him in as a playing forwards line coach which reduces the coaching soft cap and also allows him to buy into the system being developed. He might not play every game. He'd have to come cheapish though like when Hawks traded off Sam Mitchell to West Coast.

Yes it is.

The talent is there.
Culture drives the talent. The wheels have fallen off. Brown is talented but one dimensional and aging. He won't be part of anything sustainable, although he could be a good foil to enable Jones not to be smashed. Could also be a good mentor with skills to impart. Too expensive for just those traits though.

To the naysayers, on the basis of cost you'd have to put a line through Cameron as well.

We need to drop the 'Ex Don = good fit' mentality IMO. It stifles us.

If we lose Daniher, what's the point in playing 3 years with no key forward hoping one of our youngsters comes good hung out to dry up front as an 18-19 year old all by himself, copping it from all angles.

I'd rather have Brown up front taking the best defender, copping all the heat while Stewart and some other upstart/s learn their craft. Then in 2/3 years the focal point switches just when the contract runs out.

Playing without any key forward at all is what has made us look so bad the last two years. Not having one for another 2-3 years in the hopes of maybe having one develop isn't a great strategy. I'd take Ben Brown with 40 goals over nobody, even if it costs this years' and next years' second round pick. Maybe I'd consider next years' first round or the compensation for Daniher.

When was the last time a top 10 forward of the last 2 years came up for trade/FA? Lynch for $1m a year? Ben Brown kicked 60 goals two years running.

Compared to JD, Ben Brown's kicked 287 goals in 130 matches, JD is 191 in 108.

Brown is only one year older
