You haven't included where Griffen goes or where pick 4 comes from so that should read GWS lose Boyd and pick 4, receive Griffen and pick 1.

For those trades to be fair Griffen has to be the equal of pick 4, which he may be, and pick 1 has to be equal to picks 4 and 6 combined, which it clearly isn't.

I'm not disputing that, but Griffen as well? Way overs for Boyd

Pick 6 plus a fringe player at worst.

Pick 6 and a fringe player for Boyd? The clear number one in last years draft, would easily be number one in this years draft and you think a fringe player is enough to give up with pick 6? So you are basically giving up a fringe player to go from pick 6 to pick one? I would tear up my membership if the Saints gave up pick one for pick 6 and some fringe player. Griffen has had a good career but he is 28, his best footy is behind him.

It's a lot closer than your suggestion.

So you think Boyd would go number 1 this year and yet you think GWS should give him up for this year's pick one and you think Griffen is old with his best footy behind him and yet you think GWS should give up pick 4 for him? You seem to be arguing against your own suggestion.

If I were GWS I'd prefer to keep Boyd than get pick 1 but if he wants out then what do you do?

I do think Griffen's best is behind him, but GWS were reportedly keen to get Griffen with pick 4 (they are desperate for and experienced mid) before the news broke so it seems like the fairest trade to me.

Saints don't have to be involved but I think if it's just GWS and Dogs involved Boyd for Griffen and pick 6 will be around the mark.

The only reason I included the Saints was because I know they are willing to trade pick one for more picks and GWS have shown a lot of interest in getting pick one.

I don't know why? All their top picks seem to want out after a few years, they need more experienced players, they've had enough top picks

We won't be accepting of that deal, we get smashed in that. If we involve pick 6 something else has to come our way back. Boyd for griffen and an early 20's pick is fairer. We aren't going to using Griff as virtually a pick upgrade from 6 to 1. Sure all this speculation that Boyd is a once in a generation type player but the kid has played 9 games with a best outing of 2 goals. Griff is a top 10 player of the comp and hes still seriously good.

Saints would need to throw in #22 to the Dogs, and GWS #40 back to St Kilda.

I would think that a straight Boyd <-----> Griffen, #26 is closer than your one though tbh

To be honest pick a pick somewhere between the two sounds fairer to me, but it's hard when they don't have it. They might have to swap a few later draft pick or throw in some sweeteners to even it up. You will never get a perfect deal.

Essendon could come in and put 20 to GWS for 26 and Giles. That would be:

GWS lose Boyd, Giles and gain Griffen, pick 20
WB lose Griffen, pick 26, gain Boyd
Ess lose pick 20, gain Giles, pick 26

Actually, we're a bit favoured there and GWS a bit behind. Maybe send a Pears to GWS as well.

Perhaps Gold Coast get involved...

Gold Coast #8, #15 <----> Bulldogs #6, #27

Then Bulldogs Griffen, #15 <----> Boyd

(Essentially Bulldogs would have done a swap of Griffen, #27 and dropped two places in the 1st round for Boyd)

GC are losing out there. They move up two spots 8>6 but then lose a 1st rnd pick & slide 12 spots (15 >>> 27) into mid 2nd rnd.

It's widely considered very even talent wise 5-20/25, so doesn't make any sense for GC to make those trades

They may do it, if it was for either Melbourne's 3 & 23 or GWS 4 & 19?

You're going to run out of money fairly quickly if you wish to see how many players are enticed to go to the Dogs.

Ideally players would love to get in on us now, because we have the right tools to start going places.

Next few years of development are crucial
