Lindsay Thomas

Games 72
Goals 92
Age 21
D.O.B 28th Feb 1988
Drafted Rd 4 Pick 53

Now these are not the stats of an average footballer. I was a critic of him last year, this year he has changed my opinion. Next year he will be 22 and going on 100 games by year end, he could play for ten years more.

His strong marking and improved kicking for goal and attack on the ball this year was a highlight. He got injured...bad luck mate...but he will be a star. I feel with Hansen, wright and Thomas, we are now getting the forwards we lost with retirements the last few years.

crazy to trade him and my call is if he left he should demand anything from 10-17 pick to compensate for a ready made small forward.

Like a few others I find it odd that LTs name is mentioned and Flashs isnt.

For mine keep both, when they are up and running they add plenty to our forward line. Still young enough to improve.

Crows have mentioned that they wanted LT, it is probably the only reason his name is mentioned. If he wants to go home to SA we will have to deal, if he wants to stay I can't see him being traded.

But, it is probably a little similar to the Gibson issue last year. Do you do a trade with a good player where you can cover or hold on to your best option. We would have never traded Gibson but as a result we got Bastinac out of it and Firrito has played the role Gibson was playing.

Campbell and Adams can play the role he has been playing, and if we do not have serious injury issues to guys like Anthony and Ziebell next year it will be a lot harder to fit these guys in one side.

The question then is do we take the punt that we can improve the side with a trade for a guy with a lot of talent but one we can cover to possibly strengthen an area we have a weakness in.

imo we are less certain about key forward positions than we are of forward pocket positions. Petrie's injury is a degenerative type of injury and it could get a lot worse and his future could be bleak if he were to re-injure his feet.

Outside of him Hansen looks like he can take a key position forward role. Tarrant is being groomed for FB, it doesn't mean he wont ever play FF but it isn't looking great atm. Black is more a monty for the third tall role as he is very mobile and athletic. We are not sure how the O'Keefe pendulum will swing. Kennedy I believe is mostly playing in defence.

I wouldn't mind us taking the hit in a pocket position if we can somehow get a good FF prospect. We don't want the bell to toll at the end of 2012 and then figure out our KPF prospects are bleak, the development time is just too long to figure it out when the other positions are covered.

If LT requests a trade to the Crows then he may be used to secure McKernan? McKernan could be used as a developing key forward or allow us to do a positional shift.

I actually think the Crows would have to sweeten the deal for us to consider it. McKernan has potential, but Thomas has proven he can play at the level and on his day destroy sides.

Yeah, I think the possibility unless for some reason Walker wanted to.. walk. Not sure about the fine tuning of the agreement. I think Knights also want to come back to Melbourne but I think Collingwood are sniffing around him.

Knights is the best quality they have on offer trade-wise imo but I dont see the point trading LT for Knights, I'd prefer us bag some picks or get a quality player in a position we have a bit of deficiency in. I don't think we are hurting for mid-size half forwards. With Wright, Edwards, Warren and Black might be playing that role too.

He's a Selwood? So? Hopefully our days of picking up average players from opposition clubs are over.

Of those who already and are gonna be delisted.....he'd probably be the best of the bunch. No harm really in giving him a second chance if it costs us nothing......and if it doesnt work out....then we really havn't lost anything

We're not obliged to pick up a delisted player and I can't see what he would offer to out list. 25-26 yo, all around average footballer languishing in the ressie at Brisbane for most of the year.

And he would cost a spot on the list which should go to a promising younsger with his career ahead of him.

Fair enough

Although it wouldnt be a trade as he isnt currently on a list a player we should be looking at talking to Marty Clarke. Im sure Brad Scott would have a decent relationship with him having worked together at Collingwood.

Why would we even entertain the thought of trading Lindsay Thomas? He is maturing nicely, especially from what we have seen in past years. The kid is a star on the rise and will probably lead our goalkicking for the next few years.

Knights is a good player, Thomas has no ceiling on what kind of player he can turn into.

We're in big trouble if that's the case. Unless you think he's going to be kicking 70 goals a season which I wouldn't be putting my money on.

I'd absolutely love to get Chris Knights. Problem is I don't think we want to give up any of the players / picks required to get him.

Cake, eat it, etc.

IMO he is top 5 in the comp on the run from 60m, can find the pill & has been hurt by a few injuries in the last 2 seasons.

What about Knights for McMahon? I like McMahon but it's hard to see him getting a regular gig in our backline if MacMillan steps up next year. It seems a pretty fair trade IMO. An exchange of draft picks might be reqd to satisfy both parties.

lol. scott mcmahon for chris knights is hardly a fair trade

Have we actually ever ended up in front when we have traded away early drafy picks? Armstrong, Colbert, Thompson, Hay readily spring to mind. And while all except Hay brought something to the club, we can't really say that any were a resounding success.

- Colbert we traded Cam Mooney and pick 15 (used for David Spriggs)
- Thompson we traded pick 10 (Chris Egan) and 26 (Matthew Little)
- Hay we traded pick 18 (Max Bailey)

The Rawlings trade was actually a real winner. We gave up 46 to get Rawlings and 43 whom we drafted Swallow with.

So we didn't fair too badly from these in my opinion.

The real killer was getting that McConnell spanner from WC for pick 13 and 29 (Hurn and McKinley).

We gave up more for Colbert. Welsh to Ad, a late pick to Gel (Enright) and I think a 2nd as well.

We gave Motlop in the Hay deal (Haw got Birchall) and we got back 2nd (Riggs) and 3rd (Swallow).

Please make no mention of such things ever again. 3yrs of therapy and it aint cheap;)

Considering Thomas spent a large chunk of the year injured. I would not be trading him anywhere unless the offer was an exceptional one. His performance against Carlton was absolutely outstanding and he is still 22?

I havent seen much of McKernan but considering we need to get games into O'Keefe, Black and Tarrant as well as fitting Petrie and Hansen into the forward line and resting our Ruckman down there, where will he play, and whom will he displace?

Rischitelli looks a good player. But not worth a first rounder IMO. I would much rather back Bryce in to get us another absolute gem.

Do you honestly think we gave up a first and second rounder for McConnell?

We gave up our first rounder (13) for the Eagles pick 18 and then traded that for Hay

O'Connell cost us a second rounder.

mate if you hadve read what i was responding to properly i was simply answering passmore's query about what 1st rounders we gave up for those players in question. i know 18 was then forwarded on for hay, but still it was only max bailey. and to date hays stats at north are actually better than baileys.

anyway.....whats the latest on riskytelly? anyone heard of any developments?

I did read what you said properly. You said we gave up pick 13 and 29 for McConnell and we didn't.

What about Matt White from Richmond? Talk over on their board that he might be delisted seems to be out of favour a bit at Richmond. If he was really cheap would he be worth it? Is pretty quick turns 24 early next year though. Idk just putting him out there thoughts?
