This is not too bad. My worst nightmare on bigfooty is Biggie and Spartan arguing vehemently on something - would be almost impossible to follow who said what.

We don't argue, but we have discussed players at length on the SC board.

It might just be me but the prospect of trading for Vardy isn't particularly exciting. In fact it's the opposite as we're trading to solve a one year issue whilst not improving the midfield which needs it most

What role does Vardy have beyond 2017. I don't see one

Maybe insurance if NN or Lycett don't come good as soon as we would like

Doubt we'd have a decent player to pony up for fatboy.

Mackenzie + our 2nd is unders for him, but i can't imagine the club trading away yet another first rounder.

Exactly the trade I would be proposing.

Rockliff is a seriously good player, no guarantee what you will get with pick 12. You don't think it would be worth it if the club seriously thinks they are trying to win a flag now?

Can't remember how old Rocky is and too lazy to check. We just have to be careful not to screw our future.

Ok I lied I checked, he's 26.

I'd do pick 12 and swap second rounders.

I don't see the Vardy possibility as a one year stop gap thing. Petrie is seen as that and rightfully so but Vardy is somewhat different as he can play forward and play it well. His fitness is my concern more than anything. If he can stay sound and play regular footy I see big upside for our team with Vardy whether NN is there or not.

Yep at the end of the day ,you play the best players and if Vardy does that in front of the other two then so be it ,it just tells me that they're still not sure about Giles ,I just can't make an a case for Petrie

Vardy has never played more than 10 games in a year, each time iv'e watched him play though he's shown that he is a more than capable footballer and still only 25. Think he is the perfect pick up for our current situation as long as we dont overpay.

Let's hope our medicos do there homework on him

I'd rather Petrie for a year than Vardy. Not even sure why. Worried about his injury history, at least Petters is durable.

That's great for them, and for player retention, but I feel like we are missing out on opportunities to benefit from other clubs' interests.

Given the history of innovation by the club in the off-season I'd imagine by the time we want to do something like that (eg. Parto, Jax or Cole don't work out) the AFL will have changed the rules.

If Freo don't make the 8 next year they've underachieved and hopefully then they'll get called out for blatantly tanking 2016.

As a club they sat the season out like McCarthy did. Completely gave up and played for a WAFL flag instead

So if they play poorly next year it will prove they were tanking this year?

That's max what we would give up for him. Should try trade next years third rounder instead though, more value in the later picks in this years draft.

Okay so just thinking all of this out. How about:

2017 1st -> Sam Mitchell & 23

51 -> Nathan Vardy

12 -> Gold Coast for 22 & 26

Then, if we wanted Rockliff:

23 & 26 -> Brisbane

That kind of kills our drafts for the next two years so it's unlikely to happen I guess. But we'd hopefully maybe get a couple of third rounders back for Lamb and Brown? And use pick 22, and then two picks in the 50's. I'd actually be very satisfied with this.

Terry Wallace was pretty scathing on their 2016 performance, said it was one of the biggest falls ever and he couldn't believe how little attention was given to it (due to no real story of a coach being under pressure, journalists didn't have anyone to point the finger at).

For all their tanking and some good trading they still aren't in THAT great a position, relying a lot on mentally fragile players like McCarthy and Bennell to step up as well as plenty of downhill skiers.

If Fyfe isn't back to his best they're gone.

I think freo will go pretty good,got some good young kpps now(Pearce,Collins,McCarthy maybe kersten) plus some average ones too
If fit and healthy they have a dynamic midfield
Think they could go logue or English with their first

Why would we trade our 2017 first for Mitchell when we are getting him for a pick past 50?

Would much rather picks 23 and 26 this year than Rockliff TBH.
