Is any other football supporter going to be dreading the next few days?? It is becoming quite a habit in my football supporting household that trade week seems to normally end in tears with our favourites being traded. So I was just curious as to whether any other passionate footy supporters begin to dread that "one week in October"

I think these six words should sum up how I feel about trade week:

Off: Clint Bizzell
On: Brent Grgic

(I know these trades were mutually exclusive, but sometimes I wonder which games the recruiting staff are watching to come up with such crap)

Its a worrying time. Trade week is when you wait for a lot of bull**** rumours to be disproved, and hope that your club doesn't give up too much for some hack player.

Trade week is great.

I don't think any favorites of mine are in trouble of being offered as trade bait, but I trust the club to make the right decisions.

We have a few retirements and a few who will be delisted, and IMO North will offer one surprise trade. Could be Grant or Pickett.

Interesting NB! I too have thought that Pickett may be "available" at the right price. $400k is a lot of moolah for a 40 goal a year half forward despite his excellent defensive work and,of course, the intimidation factor. He's stated that he'd like to go back to WA at the end of this contract anyway. Grant's a possibility but is more than likely to stay.
Trade week is a very interesting time and it probably depends on whether you see your club as the hunter or hunted as to how enjoyable it is for you.

Being a Carlton supporter, I usually end trade week with my head buried in my hands. I really hope it's different this year - not holding my breath though................

I'm very concerned this year, most of the trade rumours I hear in relation to the Bombers involve us giving up quality experienced players for not much in return (probably due to salary cap pressure).:(

Trade week is great fun to watch and read about.

One thing that people need to try to do is not to get to emotionally attached to players anymore - nearly EVERY player is tradeable for the right price. It's a business now and you have to take emotion out of it.

Coaches and recruiting staff are paid mega bucks to make the best decisions possible and if vthat means trading a star to benefit the club long term thats what they will do and no amount of whinging/bitching/crying and membership destroying will change that.

I don't want either to go FWIW.

Hopefully, with the emergence of the sh1tloads of young midfielders at the club, Grant can be plonked on a HFF and kick 50 or 60 next year.

Pickett is obviously a gun, and it is just a hunch that he might be thrown up for a trade. Hope not though.

Trade week is a pretty exciting week. It's good to see who ends up where and who each club is prepared to part with. I am especially happy that the AFL has decided to put the trade period back to a later and more reasonable date, finally. It was always a disadvantage to the GF teams and to a lesser extent the PF teams, to do trades a week or so after finishing the season. Hence, Essendon has hardly made a trade in the last 4 years. Although, that wasn't for lack of trying last year!!!

And despite the little tiff with dummo, or whatever his/her name was, in another thread, I love all the rumours that fly around at this time of year (although I don't always fall for them ;)). Also will be interesting to see if any turn out to be reality.

As an older male supporter, I find that I don't get too attached to any of the players. Sure I have my Favourites, but would not be shedding any tears should they end up as trade bait. I've been around long enough to realise that every club and player has it's price.

I really dislike the "horseflesh" aspect of footy, it really turns my gut when a good player gets turfed for business rather than footy reasons.

Of course some blokes have to go, or want fresh opportunities, so good luck to those who do leave.

Unlike the poor old Blues the Pies have snaffled some corkers in trades recently. For every one that doesn't quite come off (eg Holland) we have bagged a couple of hard workers (eg McKee) or even better (eg Lica and Clemmo). Whatever happens I don't think we'll get burned.

Sporny. I think you bag Carlton more than me these days. ;)

Jacqui9,

You are one week early. Trade week is next week. It was decided to be brought forward one week because of the bali bombings.

I am looking forward to Trade Week.
