Don't really have much sympathy for Essendon in this case. They did exactly the same thing to Brisbane back in 2006, having him retire and then make a comeback a few weeks later.

No trades after two days of trading is pathetic. I hope some clubs aren't sitting around waiting for the Ryder and Beams deals to go through. If so that's pathetic and daft. I understand the premise of trying to get the best deals available but history suggests sitting on your arses trying to snare a last minute prize seldom works and nothing ends up happening. At the very minimum the Clarke and Lumumba deals should have happened by now, no excuses. The clubs have had ample time to discuss trades.

No, I am treating it seriously. Clubs wont improve their positions if they sit on their arses waiting for these big trades to go through and most of all I feel for players who cant change clubs because of the clubs incompetence at trade week.

Not hard to fathom... People want trade week shortened, I'm of the opposite view - why not make it up to a week prior to the national draft (or even including the draft)

The only real negative I see is for clubs like my own for whom list managers may need to be away from home for too long.

This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, though. Pick 5 would land you a potential star forward, something you're screaming out for. Beams is a quality player, however the greed shown by Collingwood could easily come back to haunt the Lions. Aish and Hanley could be anything, you'd be stupid to give either of them away on top of pick 5.

We have a number of extremely talented players in the VFL who've been deprived of games up until this point of time. Alex Woodward and Mitch Hallahan have won the previous two Liston Trophy's (basically the VFL Brownlow equivilent). Both have massive future's imo, they will be given a lot of opportunities next season.

VFL players who can't make your best 22 and pick 19 don't get you pick 2. JOR's value might have slipped a bit, but surely not that much?
