We will now get pick 9 in 2008 National draft even though the pies finished lower, picks are based on where you finish in the finals.

Now the big talk starts. Talk about Trades, Retirements, Delistings, Elevations, etc.

Retirements:
Grant
Thompson ?
Sinclair?

Delistings:
Brown
Sansbury
Grima

Trades:
Harris
Jones
Swallow

Elevations:
Obst
Wundke
N.Grima(must be elevated or else will be delisted)

What are you thoughts? Who do we go for in the draft now? Midfielders? Backman?

Midfielders and Key defenders thanks.

Disagree with trading Harris, i thought he was one of our better players tonight.

To leave the club:
- Grant, Sinclair, Thompson, Brown, Davies, Sansbury, Grima and perhaps Simpson because I think he is just about done.

Trade - almost anyone at this stage.

Elevate Obst for mine, leave Wundke for another year.

Traded/Delisted/Retired: Grant, Sinclair, Brown, Sansbury, Watt, Thompson, Simpson, Jones, Harris, Grima, Davies.

That would be the maximum amount of players gone over the off-season IMO. Probably see at least 8 from that group of 11.

Key defenders but they have to be drafted so this will take time to develop. More midfielders/runnning players. Simpson and rawlings cannot start in the middle again, harsh yes but we need more ball winners in the middle and not stoppers starting in the centre. A forward and midfield coach thrown in as well.

If thommo retires, Wundke will need to step up as our next FF.

BTW Nathan Grima needs to be elevated also, if not , he is gone. Can't be retained on the rookie list any more.

Delist/ Retire:

Grant
Brown
Sinclair
Sansbury
Grima
Davies
Simpson (if he feels the time is right)
Thompson (just doesn't fit in the structure)

I'd be against trading Harris. He's just so important to our midfield- and if he fires at all we'll usually win.

Got a feeling about big Josh next season. But I haven't seen enough of Wundke.

Start watching replays coz he's kicked bags of 7,6,5,4,3 numerous times this year against VFL teams with AFL team support. Dogs, cats, dons, pies, hawks .

Reading up on some of the draft players - Profiles thanks to ant555

1st Round - Steele Sidebottom – 182cm, 79kg – Murray Bushrangers
Natural smooth moving midfielder with excellent skills on both sides of the body. Very smart player who reads the play well and has a good understanding of the clearances. Runs to the right spots and provides good options. Uses the ball well by hand and by foot. The only real downside he has is he is only steady in the pace department. Has enough speed to get himself out of tight situations but is not going to burst out of a pack or through the middle of the ground. Has been used in a variety of roles including half back, half forward and midfield.
Prediction – 6 to 20.

2nd Round - Mitch Banner – 178cm, 77kg – Western Jets.
Midfield ball magnet who gets in and under and finds the ball as well as providing a running option. Does a lot of good work at the stoppages and simply runs all day. Can kick a fair way on the right side but he can kick some ordinary balls and his decision making can be great one minute and rather poor the next. He is pretty good by hand and his marking skills are pretty good. Has racked up some big numbers in his TAC Cup career including eight 30 plus possession games over the last couple of seasons. Can kick multiple goals when he goes forward. If his decision making and kicking skills where a bit sharper he would be a lock for the first round.
With the amount of ball he does find I don’t think you will see his name on the board when the fourth round starts.

Possible 4th-5th Rounder - Steve Gaertner – 198cm, 88kg -Dandenong Stingrays
His lack of consistency, average foot skills and a slight lack of footy nous cost him at last years draft but it has been good to see that Steve has gone away and worked on a few areas that have seen his game improve a lot. He has spent more time at half back this year and he does look comfortable in that position. He likes to rebound and carry the ball through the middle and his game sense has really improved a lot this year.
His problem area is still his kicking. Although he is not a really bad kick he can be prone to just throwing the ball onto the boot and trying to unload which leads to mixed results. His defensive efforts at half back have been very good. For a big bloke his pace is pretty good and he can take a strong contested mark.
He is a player I think clubs should look seriously at somewhere in round four or five.

Got yourself a good all-round mid and an in and under extractor type with the first 2 picks. Alot of quality key position backmen are later picks and Gaertner has the athletic ability and height to hold it down, skills can be improved

Watt will not get delisted.
Watt did his job again. People who bag him I now have absolutely no time for, have been proven wrong constantly, and are officially substandard human beings. I'm sick of players who sometimes deliver. Watt just about always does his job. If Jones, Harris, Wells etc did the same we would be in a Prelim final this year at least.

Agree, thought Watt did better then most tonight. Will atleast be kept on our list for depth

At pick 9- all we can hope is that Hurley slips to this pick. It's possible- but if he does- we'll have 10 or so years of never having to say that we need a fullback- because this kid will fill the void- think Nathan Brown but better in contests.

Otherwise i'd hope we get one of Hartlett (out and out gun) Sidebottom (good Classy mid), Swift (fallen off the top 5 or so radar after injuring his knee, but was the best player by a mile in the u16 championships) or even McKernan who is looking very much like a Petrie ruck-kp utility. You can never have enough good young KPP- because it's much easier to find a really good midfielder- than it is to find a really good KPP.

Harris and Jones should be offered for trade, not good enough in the big games. Time for Tarrant, lower, swallow, riggio, ross, Levi and Leigh Adams to get a run. As much as i like Thommo, the game is too quick for him, passed him by. We need some consistent clearance ball winners and key defenders. Like the look of Prismal.

Hope not.. atleast not with our 1st rounder. With our early picks we need to try fix our biggest problems.

Didn't the club say they were gunna try turn Robbie into a key defender?

Anyway we have a great future in 09.

JWS, Josh Smith,Patch Adams,Robbie,Goldy,Levi,Ross,Wazza,McIntosh, Obst, Wundke, and along with our new draftees, looks good

We need to take advantage of our opportunities now before GC come in.

Gone.

Grant - Retired.
Sinclair - Looks like he Retired.
Sansburys - Back to the SANFL to kick goals in SANFL Grand Finals.
Brown - I just shared a tear.:(
B Grima - Just too slow.
Davies - Why we ever traded for him is beyond me.

Possible Trades.

Guys like Swallow and Riggio will come up in discussions. I'd only trade Riggio if it meant we ended up with Kerr as a result of that trade.

As others have suggested both C Jones and Harris may also be mentioned in trade discussions. FWIW I'd be keeping both these players.

I wonder if Uncle Leo is on the money and Davey will end up at North.
