But i don't care. AFL f'd this up when they took the 2013 and 2014 picks from us (though bizarrely gave us one back in 2014)

I'm happy to take pick 1 to the draft this year and i hope we draft the best player, who goes on to be Judd-like.

I agree... the AFL stuffed up here by stripping your draft picks back then. Had they not, I think there may have been a reasonable case to 'freeze' your 2016 pick at somewhere between pick 5-10 regardless of where you finished up, but that obviously didn't happen.

It is a joke that Pick #1 is even an option for Essendon.

Their list isn't that of a 17th or 18th placed team because with the exception or Hibberd, they've lost no-one. You put the other 11 blokes back into the team, and no chance they finish as low as they have.

Their draft picks should be based on an average of where they finished on the ladder in 2013 (9th), 2014 (7th), and 2015 (15th), so about Pick 10 should be what they deserve.

Their stupidity has seen them finish last, so why reward it with a Top-2 draft pick?

So in your world do you get punished every year until the end of time because that year is a consequence of the previous year, which is a consequence of the previous year and so on and so forth until we get back to 2012?

I get the rage because I believe in the list, but it's not going to be long before a club high up the ladder ends up with a high pick pick through future trading anyway so we're going to have to get used to the concept in any event.

It's probably nicer for the fans than it actually is for the club to be honest.

i completely agree. We are easily the best list to bring home pick 1 and i don't think too many will ever come as close.

Yeah... It's like a future pick trade.

Trade pick two 10ish picks for pick 1 and 18ish.
(Not counting 2nd / 3rd round benefits).
Any club would do that deal.

The AFL stuffed up here... they should have said PRIOR to this season:

"Obviously there is the potential that Essendon will finish last this year whilst players are banned; however, this ladder position is not fitting of where their list is at. As a result Essendon's draft position will be locked based on where they finished in 2015 (15th)".

Essendon still ends up with Pick 4, which is probably still overs compared to where their list ACTUALLY is, but it's a fair compromise. Getting Pick #1 ahead of GENUINE rabbles like Brisbane and Gold Coast is bullshit!
