Excellent report guys.. Much appreciated.. It gives me a good indication considering i can't make it down to watch..

On the Fuji kid, Can i ask a question? If you pluck a natural athlete from lets say another sport (gymnastics), how are you going to turn him into a football player with no previous knowledge of the game?

Yes he is young at 16, but you have kids that have been kicking the football since 4-5 which have developed the basic skills needed. Unless i'm wrong about his child history but in an earlier post someone said that he still handballs like a little kid.

I know he is a project player but money for development can be directed in a better fashion. Time will tell i guess.

Exactly and spot on.

Although just by looking at him and the shape of his body p-money he honestly doesn't look the athletic type but like many have said just him time.

Forgot to mention Williams had Ice wrapped around his ankle.

i went down to training today too

the skills were quite rusty, especially the kick ins from full back ( many times players kicked straight to opposition players ) but thats what you expect this early on i suppose

cross, higgins , griffen were excellent - however, there seemed to be many players rested as mentioned in previous posts

on the whole, the fitness looks good, and they have definitely beefed up more

cheers

Some really tall and reasonably well built blonde guy looked like he could turn out to be something too but I think I saw him nursing an arm as he went off the ground a little bit before the rest of the playing group.

Might this have been Liam Jones ?

Did Callan Ward play and if he did play where and how did he play. Also any news on Dylan Addision?

Cal Ward : Yes he did play. He looks bulkier then last year and looks quite bigger to be honest. In the practice game I only say him in 2 passesges of play.

One was him kicking 2 goals in the space of 4 minutes and the other was him laying a very strong tackle. He probably got much more touches in the middle but it was hard to tell sorry.

As for Addison he honestly looks much more bigger in the upper body and looks as if he is over his injury because he is running freely and layed a brilliant tackle on Griff:thumbsu:

you're right #1DF, he is a lot bigger, as I said in another thread I saw him playing tennis the other day and got quite a shock from when I'd seen him last year.

How many games had Tom Williams played by the age of 16?

The guy is a blank canvass at this stage, which has its advantages. He is going to take a lot of time, and it may be proven that money could have been better spent on developing other areas of our club/list, but there are still positives about going through the process. If our Fijian experiment doesn't work this time around the club is still going to learn a great deal about developing players foreign to the game and country, which could prove handy if by chance an absolute freak with a similar background comes our way in the future.

The system that discovers players from Australia is very well developed and effective, and clubs are going to have to innovate like we have down the track to increase the talent available to them. Going through this process will give the club an advantage.

Also gone and just got back boys.
Like #1 DF said it was very hard to tell some players, I didn't even see Ayce Cordy out there. Murphy was also running laps as did Sam Reid, Anrejs Everitt, (Roughead?), and tall bloke I think was Shaw. Gia later on did some running too.

From the game not much to say really other than Higgins really is being groomed to play midfield and that I thought Wight looked semi-decent as a lead up forward, looked much better in the game than Skipper.

On the young Fijian bloke he didn't look like what I'd expect to be honest. Hard to get a tell of his athletic atributes from what I saw but really with his skills at the moment he'd be a poor-average local footballer. Hope he has what it takes to improve though.

As someone of the same age who plays local footy i doubt he'd be even at that level yet.

It's all about potential though.

yeah I know what you mean and you're probably right, didn't wanna be too harsh on him, in the lower under 16 grades he'd go alright if he is fit enough.

Thanks for the reports guys :thumbsu: I'd love to get down to training but probably not feasible to fly over for it:D

From numerous threads over the last few weeks it sounds safe to say that Griff is taking another step up?? Can't wait to see this guy dominate games more consistently. It will happen:thumbsu:

Also, isn't it amazing to find out over the last two years that if you get the players to lift weights they will bulk up???

The smart mail before the 2007 draft seemed to rate Ward very highly and so far you guys are right on the money. I think the kid will be a big strong, powerful and most importantly, very skilled footballer.

Once again, thanks for the info guys.

Cheers!

For instance "what does your old man do?"

By the sounds of things, this kid would have been shitting himself. He'll either go home and tripple his efforts or give up completely.

I didnt attened. But i would like to make a note by saying, i dont think many of our players look "Bulkier" they do however look more athletic and fitter.

Of course he wouldn't be at that level yet. What exactly do people think is happening in Fiji with these boys?

This would have been his maybe 3rd proper training session.

Did anyone ever believe that it would take anything less than 2 years minimum for them to even have a chance?

Im with Hullsy, im a big O'shea fan despire barley ever seeining him. There is something about that screams 97 Backline about him.

Heck if that screams 97 backline about O'Shea, the resemblance of Sam Reid in looks and playing style to Danny Southern smacks you right in the mouth...and loosens a couple of teeth.

If the kid grows a little pony tail the scream would just about blow your eardrums out.

I also went down this morning.

Jordan Roughead seemed to have injured himself to some extent, looked as though he was in some pain initially and then came off nursing his left hand/arm?

Cooney did plenty of running and was seemingly paired up with Reid who's running ability has been noted. Cooney seemed to breeze through effortlessly whilst Reid seemed much more fatigued, this says to me that despite injury Coons has managed to keep himself fit.

Lynchy impressed me today, was relatively quiet but looks super fit and has some cat like ability in the way he moves, beautiful kick too. Seems to have moved on from last years misdemeanors.

Harbrow just keeps on keeping on, playing with more confidence.

Skipper and Wight were their usual selves, I realise it's only the preseason but unless something magical happens, I can't see either remaining on our list. The young such as Ayce and Jordan are showing plenty which will finally keep lackluster talls accountable.

I noticed a young kid out there, at first i thought it was Ward but the players were calling him Jack. Impressive even though his clothing barely fit him.

Stack looks lively, does some very impressive things however I think he seems to make errors with the basics.. such as hitting simple targets or simple marks, with that being said he makes some difficult things look simple.

Jamason, watch his youtube clip and that is what you get.

As already mentioned, Higgens was the standout and Griff is just a joy to watch.

Think you will find they are the same player:
Jamason "jack" Daniels
