We are a bunch of unappreciative idiots

Powelly is moving beautifullyyyyy.

Really excited to see him up and about this year, adds poise and class in the middle.

Also, Sheez, Scott & McKercher off HB is also going to be great to watch. Finally some run and skill off the rebound. Will be a learning year with some great moments.

see that Mountain (the one without snow on it). our lake cottage is in line with that mountain but on the lake obviously. Takes about an hour to drive there from Taupo

and price of food is ridiculous in NZ, but slowly improving. The Cyclone knocked out a lot of the produce

Isn’t the other one in Lord of the Rings?

Could have stayed at your Cottage place….

So blue team was this?

FB: Nyuon - Pink - Goater
HB: Scott - Dawson - Sheezel
C: Tucker - Powell - Stephens
HF: Duursma - Zurhaar - Simpkin
FF: Stevo - Larkey - Curtis
Foll: Greenwood - LDU - Wardlaw

Int: Lazarro, McKercher
Sub: Drury

Corr, Ford, Xerri, Phillips, Bergman, Fisher Comben and McDonald would all have to be a decent chance of claiming spots for round 1. Then there's TT, as well.

Bolded need to be replaced very early in season.

Corr and Comben in defence and Xerri in the ruck.

Xerri purely because he’s the best we’ve got at a very thin ruck division.

Did Powell get a new set of wheels?
The way McKercher was running behind Sheezel had my thinking he was on the opp side for a second. His shutdown speed is going to be priceless in helping keep the ball in our possession or offensive 50.

Both he and Phillips were noticeably quicker last week.

Powell in particular put distance between himself and ldu/wardlaw around stoppage

Would love to see Powell have a quality season with no issues, groin or otherwise. Even in 22-23 he did things (good things) which made me immediately think 'wow, that's out of character for a North player.' A decent physical condition paired with that footy brain would surely lead to some exciting outcomes even if we still don't know where to play him

Riiigggghhhhhhtt…

So you’ve judged him completely on that one piece (moment) of vision?

I’m guessing you were down at match-sim today or various other sessions during pre-season to support your damning conclusions on one our most improved and committed players?
Lazz might not make it but it won’t be based on that one piece of vision.
I think it’s more the fact that in Lazz’s career so far, he’s quite often fumbled or two-touched the footy in the contest. This is why he always seems so rushed, because he puts himself under the pump whenever he fumbles the pill.

I feel like it was a pretty relevant and fair observation based on what we’ve seen of Lazzaro over the last few years, since he’s been drafted to North.

Getting some more match sim playing on Larkey? Interesting.
Awesome, should be one on one with Souva EVERY opportunity, best learning curve he could possibly have,,,,,he could go out and keep vfl FF's scoreless week in week out, but when he's holding his own against Souva we know he's ready for an AFL debut. Go get em Will.

The match report above clearly nominated him as best on for the yellow team. Also that he never stopped working.

When your side is winning by a 100 points of course it’s going to be easier to look good. Harder to look good when you’re on the side being pumped.

No probs with Will Phil. Today would have been great for him. Resilience and leadership under tough circumstances.
His pre-season has been exceptional and he will be a star.
Also, while Blue is the stronger team, they still need to provide them some form of opposition.....perhaps its an opportunity to see some of these mids head to head....see how chaz lazz/will phill, wardlaw/willphil, powell/willphil go head to head, as well as how they complement each other in general play. Lets face it there are ZERO doubts that LDU and Wardlaw are in our best starting mid rotation. These are opportunities to sort out the rest and a good way to stand out is compete against the best the club has to offer while being part of the weaker team. I can honestly see all of LDU, Wardlaw, Phillips, Lazarro, and Powell lining up in round 1.

Interesting thing about Powelly, is most would think of him as a pure inside mid but looking at his stats from last season avg 16.5 and 0.5 a goal a game.....its not inconceivable as a young player that he improves to the rare air of 20 touches and a goal a game. Not many of those in the league, but looking at our list quite conceivably TT,, Duursma, and Sheezel have the capacity to do so, and its not out of the question for Powell, Ford, Zurhaar and who knows even Stevenson and Curtis to as well, not to mention Sausage! Ability to hit the scoreboard as a mid is what sets players (and teams) apart, and for the first time in a long while, I'm optimistic on that front.

Simpkin quietly has that potential, too. Especially if he splits HF and mid time. He was 21 and 0.5 last year.

I'd love if Powell locked himself into a midfield spot this year.

He's the best kick for goal on the run in the team on exposed form imo. Definitely some tools to be used there.

What you've touched on is interesting. The ultimate outcome with the aforementioned blokes is essentially a more localised version of Collingwood's no name approach to things. Everyone in their system is just a cog. They've got one player for almost each position that remains in that position (key forward, key defender, small forward, winger, small/medium defender), whilst just about everyone else moves around. It never gives opponents time to settle and has the advantage of capitalising fully on a player's skillset rather than just one or two elements.

But that requires a shit ton of planning, practice, and above all, fitness. We're a long way off it but a carousel of mid/forward splitting with the blokes we have would be awesome. The points of difference would be rich and extensive

Collingwood were too until a change of coach and admin (17th in 2021.....perhaps a one off sh1te year)! Not so long ago we were scratching our heads at Grundy's contract, and their salary cap issues, I personally thought they were f'd for 10 years. Everyone needs to look at that, know that we are on the right path, and believe it can happen at Arden St too! And the Grundy situation is an interesting point to contemplate given how much they invested in their ruckman, how they improved without him, and the general consternation of many on this board re our own ruck stocks!
