A couple of years ago we had basically 2 elite runners in the whole squad. Now we have at least 9 or 10.

This is where you start to flip the balance and set new expectations.

Its also good to see Xerri up there. He has a lot resting on his shoulders but he seems to be coming in ready to go.

Kenny Calendar would be less excited.

Pup is an aerobic work horse. I believe he was pushing top 3 last year, so that is one way to look at it glass half full.

A 1.8 km shuttle run or 2km race gets you to about 12 minutes into the first quarter. Granted, the top 5 today would probably also run decent times in a 15km race or 8 X 1.8 shuttle which would be more like 4 quarters.

But there are also some guys who could run respectable/handy shuttle run or 2km times (maybe 6th to 15th) who might absolutely hit a wall and run horrendous 10 or 15km times, or go backwards by the 5th and 6th 1.8 shuttle. In game equivalence - hit a wall mid way through the third.

Separately, surprised how many guys are in 'rehab' on the first day of preseason and so didn't run the 1.8 shuttle run.

That type of running you get better with age too. Not that I know but prime endurance runners are mid to late 30’s if im not mistaken

Just trained at my usual time, Darcy Tucker came in and was the only one in the gym with me, ended up having a sauna together, I didn’t bother him but he initiated convo, I would say we have seen each other around a bit in the area for coffee, gym, beach ect and that’s why but very friendly. He was doing lots of hammie, hips, glutes and leg work. When I was leaving I also saw TT and Bailey Scott training together, completely unrelated to Tucker. I was really pleased to see those two together actually, couldn’t find a better citizen in Scott I imagine.

The Shuttle Top 10 released today has to be the most un-inspiring thing I've read as a NM fan since I read about Jason Love's indiscretion at the Coburg Drive-In. I mean, Xerri in the Top 10???? Nah, he was their best runner, by a long way.

Some real miserable campaigners in here. We need more running so we recruit one of the top 1% of runners in the comp for cheap and people are upset that he is showing how good of a runner he is.

Best news for the day for me is seeing George Wardlaw running so well so early .
He killed last season when he played a handful of games with a very limited pre season.
