Alternatively it could mean that Stephens is an elite runner and was brought in to the group for that purpose. I bet we'd all be horrified if he didn't finish top 3.
That's not surprising though, we drafted him because we knew he was a good runner.

You'd reckon Clarko is telling the rest of our squad now, especially our on-ballers / mids, this is the level you need to be at if you want to play finals. And even at this level, Stephens didn't play finals this year.

Personally I suspect the truth is somewhere in between. Stephens is an elite runner, but our team also are um, not great at running. Which means he is going to be a big improvement! And hopefully set some standards as well (looking at you, Curtis Taylor-who-I-thought-was-meant-to be-good-at-running-but-didn't-even-show-up-in-the-top-10). Xerri being in the top 10 feels weird, is that common?

Also, is the shuttle run more of a test of speed or endurance?
More endurance. Doesn't really matter how fast you do it. It's reps until last man standing.

99% of our list won't be able to get to Dylan's aerobic capacity unfortunately mate.

People often think that if players "just trained harder in the off season" they could dramatically improve their tank to one day get to the level of the freak runners at their club.

This of course makes no more sense than saying that if they worked hard enough anyone could be on the start line in the 5000m at next year's Olympics.

Did Curtis Taylor even turn up to training? Wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t. If he did Participate in the time trial and didn’t crack the top ten then that’s concerning.

My biggest concern, and appreciate not everyone is back at pre season training, is that Shiels, who was retired at this stage last year, finished in the top 10
Pup is an aerobic work horse. I believe he was pushing top 3 last year, so that is one way to look at it glass half full.

Fringe player from another club wins the first run to kick off pre-season. Just shows how far back our squad is when it comes to fitness and endurance. That gap will take a while to close, it won't be done in a pre-season. You have to question just WTF our Performance Team have (or haven't) been doing in recent years.
Dylan stephens is an Elite runner in his draft drawed first overall in the yo yo test and 3rd out of every draftee in the 2km time trail. He is an elite runner and that’s why his bought to the club!
No real surprise that he won the beep test , running is one of his main strengths

Clarko is SENSATIONAL , love the way he gets around the new guys to make them conformable
I think Biggie's new nickname is likely to be Tiny whether he likes it or not 😂

Where did he finish in Sydneys? He probably won that too

Probably won Sudneys. Can anyone confirm his pace last year? He’s a machine runner, always has been. If pink won the shuttle then you could have concerns

Big statement knocking Jy off. Pretty big that Tucker and Sheez have jumped Bailey.

Definitely got ourselves another winger who will run up and back all day, big tick.

Big run for Sheez, to beat Bailey Scott home is super impressive.

People have a bit of a misconception about Sheez.

He was one of the very top runners in last years draft class.

He finished 2 seconds behind Ollie Hollands in pre-season testing and he ran a sub 6:00 2km at the combine at the end of the year.

He had better Yo-Yo tests than both McKercher or Scott did in their top age years.

He had a huge tank entering the system. You can't not have one averaging the amount of ball he did as a half forward at u/18 and the amount of gut running he was doing late in games last year.

I swear some people think life is like a JRPG and you can just increase all your stats to 999 if you grind enough

Some negativity about that shuttle run but I'm excited...

Stephens
Simpkin
Sheezel
Tucker
Scott
Bergman
Lazarro
Shiels

Then you add in Fisher, Stevo and McKercher.

A couple of years ago we had basically 2 elite runners in the whole squad. Now we have at least 9 or 10.

This is where you start to flip the balance and set new expectations.

Its also good to see Xerri up there. He has a lot resting on his shoulders but he seems to be coming in ready to go.
