Day 1 of preseason and the overreaction posts kick off!
you think? A kid looking to cement his spot coming into his 3rd season tailed off with the vfl level ruckman after already identified as a weakness.....surely you'd knuckle down and work on that while away from the club.

I work at a large government institution which houses some of the state’s finest on a short to long term basis….

When I drive over the weekend to work I take the opportunity for an early morning walk around North Melbourne. It is a more pleasant environment than my work place I can assure you all

Maybe he did?

Fringe player from another club wins the first run to kick off pre-season. Just shows how far back our squad is when it comes to fitness and endurance. That gap will take a while to close, it won't be done in a pre-season. You have to question just WTF our Performance Team have (or haven't) been doing in recent years.

Unpopular opinion but I think the dark blue training gear looks good.

The fact he is a fringe player is irrelevant... prob was in the top 5 at syd too....

From memory Dan Howe was top 4 last year too.

Alternatively it could mean that Stephens is an elite runner and was brought in to the group for that purpose. I bet we'd all be horrified if he didn't finish top 3.

"Stephens is a superb athlete displaying his speed (2.97 20m sprint), endurance (21.2 Yo-Yo test), agility (8.24 seconds), and 2km time trial time of 6.01 minutes at the National Draft Combine."

From his draft profile.

Alternative take: North Melbourne bargain basement trade for an elite runner proves astute list management with Dylan Stephens winning the preseason shuttle run.

Also worth noticing this headline about last year's pre season... So no real change (other than them both being North players now)

8 Jan 2023 — The Kangaroos cracked into a 1.8km shuttle run, with Jy Simpkin ... SYDNEY. Running. Dylan Stephens set the pace in the Swans' 2km time trial ...

I used to do it fairly regularly when I lived closer to Arden St and was on Daddy duty with my baby daughter. Nice outing and atmosphere.

You run into all sorts though

Stephens has won just about every time trial he has ever ran in.

He used to smoke most of the Sydney midfielders.

They’ve all got off season programs that they are undergoing now even while overseas

And CT would outrun most in the afl

CT didn’t even crack the top ten of our pre season time trial (which was a 1.8km shuttle). That’s top ten of possibly the worst running side in the history of the modern AFL.

Guess we can finally put the “CT the aerobic beast” myth to bed.

Personally I suspect the truth is somewhere in between. Stephens is an elite runner, but our team also are um, not great at running. Which means he is going to be a big improvement! And hopefully set some standards as well (looking at you, Curtis Taylor-who-I-thought-was-meant-to be-good-at-running-but-didn't-even-show-up-in-the-top-10). Xerri being in the top 10 feels weird, is that common?

Also, is the shuttle run more of a test of speed or endurance?
