Training Report (Arrived 9.50am)
- Fisher and McDonald doing some running work. Mainly repeat sprints. Can only assume it’s conditioning/loading issue for Fisher.
- Comben, Drury, George and Archer entering/exiting 50 drills seperate from the group then into some running
- CCJ, Harvey and Free non contact but participating in main drills.
- Tarryn, LDU, Zurhaar not on track
- Main group doing inside/outside spread drill. In tight handballs through traffic than work on hitting the release kick. 400m sprint then repeat. Moved then into a goal kicking under duress
- Group on whole looking noticeably leaner. Much has been made of Sheezel and LDU this week but can add Ford, Greenwood, Powell, Shiels, McDonald and Corr to that group among others. Both Wardlaw and Goater have room to develop on that front.
- Drilling ball movement/turnover response. Defence keeping shape behind the ball with strong emphasis on communication, offence hitting 15m-30m and releasing long when needed trying to calve through.
- Wardlaw everywhere in this drill. A lot of ball going through Scott, Sheezel, Goater and Stephens.
- Corr is noticeably the most vocal leader on track. Gets around the younger players and pushes the more senior players on track.
- Moved into match play sim. 11 vs 11 moving ball through a shortened field of play, roughly 100m. Impressed with Stephenson as I was last week. Emphasis on team getting the ball in the hands of runners and good users continues to be the priority. Scott again heavily involved. No surprises but Sheezel and Bergman great at hitting those short kicks
- Wardlaw out of this drill doing some extra running. 1st years and rehab group watching on.
- CCJ working separately testing reaction and skill while getting hit by the bag/Daniel CrossPLAYERCARDSTARTDaniel Cross

PLAYERCARDEND - Break into the repeat effort running drill for the remaining group . No standouts, but the De La Rue covers the ground well and was among the leaders.
- Now broken up into smaller groups . Small/General forwards doing some crumbing goal work. Clarkson keeping a close eye on this group which includes a few of the train on players including the boys from Dandenong. Some Mids/Flankers doing ground balls under pressure. Noticeably Stephenson and Stephens were involved here. The remainder participating in a longer kicking drill.
- KPP doing one on one body work. Larkey doing a lot of work with Maley on positioning and body work. Corr similarly was working one on one with Dawson and Leinart earlier in the session. Still can’t split Nyoun and Pink in terms of our depth chart. What Biggie does is no doubt flashier but he makes more mistakes. Pink definitely the better runner.
- Training done and players break up into extras
- Additional notes:
- Still unsure where Sheezel plays, and I’m not sure the coaches know yet either. Always joined in goal kicking when that was an option, but played behind the ball in match play drills.
- Groundwork much needed. The thud the players make when running laps is similar to concrete. I’ve often observed players feel for their groins, knees and hammies during training. Hopefully the new deck helps with player availability moving forward.
- Liking Sheezel, Scott, Stephenson, Bergman and Jy. Have been disappointed in Phillips, but that might be harsh. Would like to see Dawson be a bit more assertive in the contest if he is to take a key post. Naturally plays more like a flanker.
- What Brayden George does in training with one arm is very impressive.
- Jed Adcock very vocal on track. Assertive/Alpha type, which seems a contrasting style to Clarke and to a lesser extent Adams.
- You're more likely to win lotto than easily find a park around Arden Street.
