There is a song out there which typifies everything about our club and I feel or shall I say I know at times really resembles the last 4 years and even before that and I've been listening to it so much, if it doesn't get you pumping you've got something other than blood in your veins. Not everyone will like the singer and that's okay, but such is music its about the song and the lyrics, god when I hear those lyrics if that's not about our club I don't know what is.

The song is called "CHANGE", by Taylor Swift, I so believe that "change", is occurring right before our eyes but such are the beatings we've taken{not just on the football field} that some are hoping rather than believing that change will happen. These are some of the lyrics: And its a sad picture, the final blow hits you, somebody else gets what you wanted again,{the premiership cup that Collingwood won}

You know its all the same, another time and place, repeating history and your getting sick of it{beating after beating on the field, coaches not right for our club, drama off the field} And I'll do anything to see it through, because these things will change, can you feel it now, these walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down{we all would walk on broken glass if it meant a premiership, I do think some people can feel it, these walls, the A.F.L headquarters}.{ No one other than us wants us to succeed}.

The time will come for us to finally win, And we'll sing hallelujah{we're going to get that cup, and when we do, the singing is going to last quite a while} So we've been outnumbered, raided and now cornered, its hard to fight when the fight ain't fair, we're getting stronger now, tonight we'll stand, get off our knees, fight for what we've worked for all these years, And the battle was long{AFL season} its the fight of our lives, but we'll stand up champions tonight, it was the night things "CHANGE".

Draft night was when things "changed", like it or hate it, it doesn't matter, things are in motion, the last half of last year is when things got moving in the right direction and the momentum has slowly increased, rolling into the trade period,{big tick} followed by the Draft {huge tick}, now we've got the talent, now we've got the coaches, and more importantly now we've got the confidence, when this is over, the two songs I'm belting out are, our club song and a little known song called "CHANGE".

I'm not familiar with Taylor Swift or the song in question, it's probably safer around these parts to use musical references from one hit wonders circa 1978 - 1993. As for North, in the words of Yaz and the Plastic Population "the Only Way is Up Baby."

I only deal in Baroque I'm afraid.

If North Melbourne can improve it would be Water Music to my ears.

With all due respect to him, I don’t think Longmire was a particular success down back.
Post knee,

I think his kicking has been the only elite trait he has shown to date - without being particularly penetrating.
Need more of it.
Longmire did fairly well at Full Back as a young bloke and then returned to the forward line and his career as a goal kicker took off.

Had to look it up for confirmation as it was ages ago (from Wikipedia):

His first official match for North Melbourne was in the 1988 season against Footscray with a four-goal performance, but he struggled after that and near the end of the season coach John Kennedy Sr. moved him to full-back. He did well in that role during the 1989 season, holding Tony Lockett to five kicks in Round 14, but North's lack of key position players in attack saw him moved back to the forward line in August.[5]

The 1990 season saw Longmire jump to the top of the tree: at only nineteen years of age, he kicked 98 goals and won the Coleman Medal as the league's leading goal kicker (and the youngest player to have done so

Remind me who you are?

The one who was happy to believe all the racist s**t about Tarryn right?

Keen to believe it from memory.
We're similar, really. Both gotten a shit ton of mileage out of our dislikes for associated North people. The only difference is, Chadwiko's actions haven't really justified the crap-slinging you've levelled at him. Tarryn, driving like a dickhead and threatening women with one of the lowest things a bloke can do, sort of did justify my, and others', disapproval. It got obsessive on my part, but that's what can happen when your club has already suffered misfortune after misfortune and you just want to see some damn light at the end of the tunnel. His ethnicity was the furthest thing from my mind during that time, as I was too busy getting mad over the fact that the club couldn't catch a ****ing break, but don't let that stop you

Corr injury didn't look good, could hear him swearing the F word a lot
Goad went off with head knock in a contest drill against X I think.
Jy looks fit always leading the running groups by a good margin
Ford was not happy with PC during full ground match sim for holding on too long, chased after PC and shouldered him and let him know. I guess all competing for spots. I was very surprised he chased PC.
Will Phillips last in the running groups.

I like George as a forward, however, if this is our backline...

FB: Corr - Pink/Logue - ???
HB: Fisher - Comben - ???

  • both of those empty spots need to be good kicks who can move the ball out, there's not a lot of trustworthy kicking back there
  • one needs to be a small/med defender
  • the other a strong medium defender who can compete in the air and switch onto a bigger forward and not get rag dolled

Sheezel should ultimately be further up the ground.
Goater is much better on the wing where he actually looks dangerous. He also can't be trusted to kick out.

Bergman and Hardeman are competing for the small/medium role. Neither is strong enough to play two of them with Fisher in the same backline.

That leaves Lmac or Archer in the other spot. Archer isn't a great kick and Lmac can't run, jump or make good disposal decisions until proven otherwise.

George does potentially fill a need of being medium sized, strong, good in the air and also a booming kick who can clear the ball out of defense.

From the perspective of a physical profile and kicking ability a back 6 of Comben, Pink, Corr, George, Bergman, Fisher might work the best.

I've obviously got no idea if George or Comben can actually defend.
Makes sense, but I suspect we will mostly be playing a seven man zone back there. And Luke will be one of them.

Just got back from training - Bloody hot but the boys were cracking in.
Few notes

Jai and Bull love to get the rigs out

Chom one of the first out. Just doing run throughs and some agility work on the ankle. Participated in the majority of the session.

Can confirm the TT was there but was purely doing walking laps with Curtis Taylor for about 45 minutes. CT mentioned a slight niggle in his back but should be back soon. Just on TT, didn't realise how big he actually is in person. Hope he can get over whatever is niggle is soon.

Rehab group consisted of LDU, Arch, Lmac, Fish, Geroge and Griff. All of those boys did some separate drills, mainly just light kicking with LDU and Lmac doing constant laps with increased and decreased intensity. George, Fish and Arch were doing them later one. Probably going for a good hour it seemed.
Griff was just doing constant runs with agility work.

Everything Sheez does is all class, kicking off both feet, one touch player, evasiveness. Highly doubt we will see any second year blues from him.

After warm ups the broke into groups of around 10 and did some 5 v5 drills in confined spaces. Aim seemed to be to draw a player before giving off and then breaking clear for a shot on goal. Bull was really vocal in the group I was watching. Sheez couldnt be touched. Warlord is a killer.

2 on 1 kick to kick from 50 into the goal square. Chom was marking everything against Biggie and Goater while in the opposite group, Sheez was getting the better of Colby and Hards.

They did some wrestling drills after this, one person having to protect the ball and the other trying to get it off them. Jai goes very hard here and you can tell his fitness is at another level, was up against Powell and after a break, Powell was bent over catching his breath, Jai was ready to go again. Really does lead from the front in everything he does. Warlord was another who impressed me here. Just does everything with intensity.

Next up was some match sim. Short 5 minute burst. No real centre square work as it was just kick one way or another to start it off, or it would be from a boundary throw in. Jai was great around stoppages, stood out the most imo.
Ford cracks me up, really nice user and composed, him and Paul Curtis collided head on in a 50 / 50, both were fine, Ford must not have liked something as ran a good 15 meters just to go give Curtis a big him and shoulder.

Scott just doesnt not stop running, absolute freak in that regard, especially in the heat. Ball use was generally good.

Dylan Stephens was really nice in match sim, finished off a could of nice link up plays with goals on the run from about 45. Something I feel the team has lacked in for quite a while. Didnt realise who he was until he kicked the second.

Chom played about 10 minutes of match sim, can confirm played down back and looked fantastic. One on Ones, tick. Reading the play, leaving his man for a big intercept that lead to a goal to Paul Curtis.
Pink also defended really well and his ball use wasnt any worse than one Ben Mckay. Short kicks all found there mark.

Corr - Can confirm what looked like a really bad ankle, happened right in front of me. Couldnt put any weight and was telling the trainers is was really bad. Lets see what comes out from that. Hopefully not as bad as first impressions but didn't look good.

Colby - Boy of boy does he look classy. Played down back and used the ball perfectly. Great give and goes, always looking to link up. Might be one sided but damn if that side isnt exquisite.

Dursma - Didnt see a huge amount but will be a big boy in a couple of years, what he did do was classy though, very one touch, especially when marking.

Last notes. Team seem very vocal, really tell each other where to go. Also not afraid to give each other advice or constructive criticism on the spot. To me that's a sign of a good team. Hopefully it all clicks.

Would have love to have provided more insight but some players I just didnt recognize, play happening on the other side of the field or players in different numbers.

Promising signs.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Great info, thanks!

Was Sheezel playing down back or somewhere else?
