But they all have big keys forwards around them who take the pressure off.

Stengle wouldn’t get off the chain without Hawkins and Cameron getting all the attention.

Bailey, Cameron and McCarthy wouldn’t cope if they didn’t have Daniher, Hipwood and McInerney in their forward line.

Collingwood is a bit of an outlier in that they don’t have any truly elite key forwards by Mihochek, McStay, Cox and Cameron all play exceptional roles in their forward line.

Key forwards imo are more important than ever, not only do they kick goals but they provide opportunities for their smaller teammates and make the best interceptors accountable
Melbourne had Brown and McDonald. And Brown still kicked three goals in that game, McDonald might have also kicked two but irrc it was a bit of a procession by the end of the game. The Dogs capitulated.

That and even Frampton and Cox are examples of what i'm talking about. They're hardly elite players but as you say they do take pressure off. They take the key defenders attention and provide a structure the side can use but I honestly think they're as or more effective as decoys than as genuine targets.

Since the covid season in 2020 every GF winning side has a small/medium forward who has been the highest scorerer in the game - Fritsch, Stengle and Hill, who probably all played the games of their lives. Even this year Brisbane's scoring was dominated by small forwards (they scored seven compared to Daniher's three.) Most goals are scored by small forwards and mids in Gfs.

Even Geelong who had Cameron and Hawkins had those two score five between them and Stengle scored four. In fact afaics the highest goals any single KPF has scored is three and the lowest any highest scoring small forward has scored is four.
That is precisely one of the reasons why I wanted Nick {the wizard}Watson, his uncanny goal sense coupled with all the other things he can do, would have been perfect for us. I guess not to mention the fact we haven't had a good small forward for quite some time and in the last 4 years we've been destroyed by SMALL FORWARDS.

But as I have posted, I am over the moon with who we got, Zane; I have big wraps on and Colby; wow, I'm actually lost for words, because of how good he is going to be. Drafting can be hit and miss at times but usually the top 7 / 8 players are very good. Its not till the teens where you have to be spot on, but over the last few years as I've posted, Recruiters have been more thorough, through their efforts to evaluate players with technology and more home visits {face to face} rather than say zoom or other online uses.

Phillips very rarely wastes the ball.

He's an infinitely better kick than LDU and Simpkin.

He's a better kick than Wadlaw, who tries to bite off a lot somtimes. He's hot and cold

LDU is half way to a bad kick, he kicks a lot of helicopters, but generally forgiven because of everything else he brings.

People love to rag on Phillips, but generally he's a great user by foot, he doesn't do the glamarous kicks, but generally kicks it nice and softly into space to the advantage of team mates.
He had some shockers this year, so I look forward to watching him to see if he has improved.

10, 19, 26, 48 seconds are all good neat kicks, however the kick at 1 min 10 secs is a particularly good example of his excellent kicking.

lol, I know there was plenty of clangers by foot too but I can’t be arsed finding it. I hope he becomes the player we all want him to be.

I'm not denying the fact that there aren't clangers but you said you hadn't seen anything yet to suggest he's a good kick let alone a very good or excellent kick. I was providing you with evidence that he is a very good kick and at times excellent an excellent kick.

He's a very neat kick. One of our cleanest. Probably the big question on his kicking is whether he is 5-10m short in range to make that a real weapon. I don't think so personally but jury is out somewhat.

I would love to be wrong, but I don't see the Comben in defense experiment being a massive success.

All Australian CHB Charlie Comben it is then.

Settle down, hasn't played a game yet

There is a song out there which typifies everything about our club and I feel or shall I say I know at times really resembles the last 4 years and even before that and I've been listening to it so much, if it doesn't get you pumping you've got something other than blood in your veins. Not everyone will like the singer and that's okay, but such is music its about the song and the lyrics, god when I hear those lyrics if that's not about our club I don't know what is.

The song is called "CHANGE", by Taylor Swift, I so believe that "change", is occurring right before our eyes but such are the beatings we've taken{not just on the football field} that some are hoping rather than believing that change will happen. These are some of the lyrics: And its a sad picture, the final blow hits you, somebody else gets what you wanted again,{the premiership cup that Collingwood won}

You know its all the same, another time and place, repeating history and your getting sick of it{beating after beating on the field, coaches not right for our club, drama off the field} And I'll do anything to see it through, because these things will change, can you feel it now, these walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down{we all would walk on broken glass if it meant a premiership, I do think some people can feel it, these walls, the A.F.L headquarters}.{ No one other than us wants us to succeed}.

The time will come for us to finally win, And we'll sing hallelujah{we're going to get that cup, and when we do, the singing is going to last quite a while} So we've been outnumbered, raided and now cornered, its hard to fight when the fight ain't fair, we're getting stronger now, tonight we'll stand, get off our knees, fight for what we've worked for all these years, And the battle was long{AFL season} its the fight of our lives, but we'll stand up champions tonight, it was the night things "CHANGE".

Draft night was when things "changed", like it or hate it, it doesn't matter, things are in motion, the last half of last year is when things got moving in the right direction and the momentum has slowly increased, rolling into the trade period,{big tick} followed by the Draft {huge tick}, now we've got the talent, now we've got the coaches, and more importantly now we've got the confidence, when this is over, the two songs I'm belting out are, our club song and a little known song called "CHANGE".
