Because he has looked even more damaging and dominant when he has pushed further up the ground.

Did he though? He didn’t play up the ground all that much last year. Across half back he was still able to link up up the ground and provide an impact.

There are 3 main reasons why I want him to stay at half back:

- he is the quickest player out there, half back allows him the space he needs to be damaging. He doesn’t get AS MUCH space in the forward line or through the midfield.

- I want the ball in his hands…and It’s easier to to accumulate behind the ball and setup plays across half back than it is in the midfield.

- we have no obvious replacement across half back who can play the role he plays with the effectiveness that he plays it with.

If fisher and Kerch are both playing back - you’d think sheez wont be as we need some guys that can actually defend

Sheez was pretty handy in the one on ones. Fisher won’t be a good one on one defender and Kerch’s speed is better utilised in and around the centre bounces imo.

Which is why it was absolutely dumb list management to not go after some proven key defenders after McKay left.

I’m hopeful on Pink, but Biggie isn’t a key defender.

Having an injured Logue and injury prone Corr as our best defenders was complete list mis-management.
Yes and no. You could say that them re-signing Kal was good list management, to help cover such injuries. All of a sudden Kal becomes a lot more important for us.

'A lot of half backs?'

Bergman: Skinny, hasn't yet shown the ability to accumulate, struggles to defend

Goater: Questionable kicking, struggles to stay healthy

Fisher: ******* tiny, will have to produce a lot of attacking output to mitigate other weaknesses

Hardeman: Brand new pick, unknown quantity

McKercher: Not even confirmed as playing the position, unknown quantity

That's a list with promise, but not one that inspires confidence yet. We have umpteen midfielders and almost as many forwards, yet a lot of you are suggesting we shift him into those positions and trust the above backline personnel to work it out.

In such an important position, he's the only proven performer we have. Maybe the coaches will see it differently in due course but no one on here has any reason to start shuffling him around with the evidence we have at the moment. We do want the ball making it out of defensive 50, don't we
That's why I expect George to play early in the backline

It's killed tens of millions of people in a few years ffs, rendered many more than that again permanently impaired for life.

He got it bad, then glandular on top.
Covid is a pussycat to the young but a tiger to the elderly. If you look at the death statistics for the Australian pandemic it only killed 11 people in the 20-29 age group vs 4258 in the over 80 group. Glandular on the other hand is mainly a disease of young adults with a well recognised post viral fatigue syndrome . Who can really say which virus played the dominant role in Will's sub par training performance and subsequent excoriation on this forum? Nevetheless if I was was a betting man my money would be on the pesky Epstein Barr virus rather it's Coronaviridae stablemate.

Flanders has played 10 good games in his career ffs.

Would Pickett have flourished in our shitbox side as opposed to walking into a gun team?
Pickett was one player I really wanted that year. At one time he was ranked in the 30s. I couldn't believe he was ranked so low.

Yeh … who’d have thought really similar profiles at the same age?
Some of them are identical. DE, Clearances ... clangers lol.

Cunners averaged two extra contested possessions every five games and its the same for Phillips for total disposals in a game - an extra two every five games.

All that does is shine light that inside players do take a little time to become dominant. Even Fabians boy, he is going to be an absolute animal on the ball and he is taking time too.

Even comparing Neale at the same age are similar. Neale average 5 more disposals a game, couple more CP and played a handful more games, then the rest match up. Neale didn’t miss a pre season or have chronic illness. Im looking forward to watching Will keep on the same trajectory as Neale, I see very comparable players in those two and it’s inevitable Will gets better, bring on 2024

WTF is going on with our injury management.

GWS only have three players not in full training right now.

Every year we seem to have close to 10 not completing pre-seasons. And our blokes had an extra 3 weeks for operations etc.

There are some serious issues with our S&C guys based on that.

With a young list we can’t afford not to have the full compliment out there.

Anyone with any intel on how we compare in this space to other clubs.
We had so many games missed last year and it feels like early doors we are going down that path again.

Does anyone have a list of who's injured and being managed?

4. Aidan Corr

Structurally so important especially with Logue out for half the season. Not suited to playing on the gorillas hence the recruitment of Pink. Best used to play on second/third talls but can on smalls if needed. One of our more experienced defenders so will be required to lead and guide the young defenders. Need him fit for start of season at least until Logue returns.
